Supreme Novices 2018

On that French form I would have had Malaya beating Gumball all ends up. Seems like that was a quiet introduction though and I still hold out hope for her, was a much better performance last time out. The royal bond takes on more importance for me now and I will be ready to press the button in-race on Mengli Khan if he's travelling well and looking like taking it well

I still would back Malaya to beat gumball at odds against of course. I like the fact that form gets franked in France without any reduction in price for the triumph. I don't think Apple's shakira will win for what its worth but i can see why she's that price and have her well covered .
Tough race for mengli khan, would look he pick of them going into the royal bond for me however deffinately doing the right thing and holding back until they run here. If your not on at big odds.

Small but very select field for the Royal Bond on Sunday! Really excited by this race. Two very exciting Joseph O'Brien horses, Makitorix and Red Jack to take on Mengli Khan.

Could have a short priced fav for the Supreme by Sunday pm.

Did make a note in the Triumph thread as the cards were put up in there, but I don't think the end result will be the guaranteed finishing order come the Supreme, should they of course make it to both races. Willie only has one entered so hope he is the real deal, he is also the least experienced with Red Jack over hurdles too, so I'd be more inclined to compare them 2 in the race, with more progression likely, that said they are all pretty lightly race anyway.

I have 3 of them covered
red jack, 16s any race
mengli khan average of 140.0
early doors 80.0 .

Le richeburg would be my personal danger, but who knows.

I don't know why we're getting excited about the Royal Bond on Sunday. First 3 home haven't come anywhere any year in the supreme.
Death wish if you've got a runner in this race.

But had Labaik decided to go last year, and perhaps won, do you think it would have stopped him winning the Supreme?!

Champagne Fever & Jezki might argue that!

I reckon a certain Hurricane Fly would have won the Supreme had he made it that year too.

Yeah, I did look in to these earlier funnily enough, and too made the assumption it wasn't a strong race for the Supreme, but I find it highly odd that Willie runs just the one horse in it, maybe a showing of confidence for it?

Mullins has just the one possible in the shape of French import Makitorix, who made a winning start for the champion trainer at Listowel.

Mullins junior said: "It's the first real battle of the season. The phoney war is over and now everyone has to play their hand and see what they have. The Royal Bond is always very important.

"Makitorix was very impressive at Listowel, where he won by nearly 20 lengths. He'd be very exciting if he goes."

Working in partnership with Pierre Boulard, Kirk's purchases reflected the increasing focus of the Mullins operation on chasing the big staying prizes on the Flat, with several purchases designed to fit the brief of dual-purpose horses.

The leading example was the 95-rated Chelkar, previously trained by Jean-Claude Rouget for the Aga Khan and by Azamour out of a full sister to Arc runner-up Cherry Mix.

"We think he can progress next year on the Flat," said Kirk, who went to €160,000 for Chelkar, who won twice in four starts for Rouget. "We have been lucky with Aga Khans and he is out of a Linamix mare so he ought to jump. But he can make a good stayer on the Flat first. He has a good rating and he is a big, scopey horse. He can do two jobs but he has been bought as a potential Melbourne Cup horse one day."

Kirk's faith in Linamix as a sire of broodmares for future jumping prospects was also in evidence when he gave €115,000 for Makitorix, a winning Makfi colt from trainer Yan Durepaire.

Kirk said: "Both Dubawi [sire of Makfi] and Linamix get jumping horses. I have bought him as a dual purpose horse to go over jumps and as a stayer on the Flat. It's a fantastic pedigree and hopefully he will improve. I bought a horse off the trainer before called Alonso who was very good though unlucky."

Two further purchases had more of a jumping stamp to them, both offered by trainer Laurent Viel.

Kirk paid €130,000 for Didero Vallis, a three-year-old son of Poliglote who has been placed in all four starts including one of the best AQPS Bumpers in France, the Group 3 Prix de l'Avenir at Nantes.

"We have been very lucky with Laurent Viel and he will hopefully make a lovely staying jumper in time," said Kirk of Didero Vallis, who is closely related to last year's €355,000 sale-topper, Chirico Vallis.

The same price secured Antey, a winning three-year-old son of Lord Of England, who will go jumping next season with Mullins.

Either that or he's a bit light in the 2m Novice division now this year? Annamix was clearly their number one.

I'd find that highly surprising also, given how many Mr Ricci had supposedly purchased, not to mention his other owners.

Mengli Khan 9/4 favourite for the Royal Bond, Red Jack and Makitorix joint second at 11/4. In terms of style Makitorix has been the most impressive of the three so far, but in terms of substance he has a lot to find on the other two.

Mengli Khan and Red Jack are my main two Supreme hopes after the Annamix bombshell, so I think this will be a watch and learn race for me. One, or god forbid two, bubbles could be burst on Sunday, but it will be nice to get the first solid form line we can use to rule out certain horses. Will be interesting to see what way the market goes.

I wonder if a few of the market principles who started at 2 miles but were likely to go up in trip will reconsider in light of Samcro's performance on Sunday (admittedly beating trees) coupled with the Annamix news?

I like RED JACK, his form has been boosted a few times. Also got SAYAR at fancy prices, think he could be one to watch.

Reel Steel declared for tomorrow. What do we know about this nag?

I know that I'm on at 3 figures. Only 1 run to go on but the winner is very good and he's had plenty of time to fit into the mullins regime. A typical harold kirk/ Pierre boullard buy and expecting big things here.

His flat form is nothing special whatsoever

Daly tigers bumper run where he beat trees looked visually exceptional
