Supreme Novices 2018

The three I have backed with a view to this race so far are:
Red Jack 16/1 any race
Sharjah ave 49/1
Sayar 33/1

Collateral form over in France over 12f puts Sharjah a couple of lengths behind Cloth of Stars, who ran a fairly close 2nd to Enable in the Arc. I wouldn't disagree,
I went with the higher purchase price of antey, and just the odds basically. (Which probably tells you he won't go here)
On flat form he may want a little further but I'd expect he'd start at 2 miles ,
a little known winner of a 2m maiden hurdle in ricci colours is likely to be backed for the supreme.


One thing I will say with many bumper horses and flat horses disappointing so far over hurdles.
The schooling at mullins must be excellent, you'd never know that makitorix/ sayar / sharjah came off the flat.

Thomas Hobson and riven light aside the novices from closutton really seem to know they're job from a very early stage.

I have backed red jack any race at 16s, but poss with a view to the neptune. Although im not one for looking too much into breeding.

I loved his bumper wins last season but you are right, he could easy end up running over further.
 
Red Jack has an entry for Saturday too....

I thought I had dodged a bullet today, as I didn't back Dostal Phil.... then I've just come to check all my Supreme bets and Dostal Phil is there at 33/1 from a week ago today. Pfft.

I'm so far on:

Annamix 16s
Dortmund Park 50s
Sharjah 33s
Sayar 33s
Dostal Phil 33s

NR/Unlikely....
Fayonagh 14s
Getabird 20s

Any race - all I expect up in trip though
Pym, Slate House, Samcro, Red Jack

Not a set I am particularly bowled over with so far... I was making an effort not to get carried away in this race too.... :very_drunk:
 
Red Jack was my very first ante post punt for Cheltenham 2018! Back in July at 25s for the Supreme (still same price now). As a confirmed Samcro fan I can't see any horse being stepped up in distance too quickly as long as they're showing the necessary pace for the Supreme. Red Jack struck me as a speedy enough sort in his bumper wins so hopefully they take this option. Might have a little nibble again at 25s ahead of Saturday. Bound to shorten a fair bit with an impressive performance given the lack of standout performers so far that are likely to be aimed at this race (I do acknowledge that most of the principles aren't usually seen out this early)
 
Might be worth checking out the Tatts HIT sales results for one or two dark horses.

Similar for me Faugheen , - Samcro ,Annamix, red jack and sharjah. so far in the supreme.

I wouldn't doubt Harold kirk but it's amazing the prices a juvenile hurdle prospect makes, compared to prize money, over 100,000 each and little ability on the flat

Ive watched the Dostal Phil race a couple of times and it was all a bit strange, maybe he just isnt going to be that good, I cant believe they would do this would they!! But im left wondering are they already lining him up for the Betfair Hurdle. They usually have one a year earmarked it wouldnt shock me if Dostal Phil was their one this year, but maybe he just isnt going to be very goood, I mean what does £200k buy you these days!!!! lol

Money doesn't buy you a horse that can immediately jump a hurdle unfortunately. Yet the horse Dostal Phil beat on the flat in France (Demon D'aunou) looked a classy animal over further and over hurdles for the same connections a couple of weeks back. There was a bit on the links Jono put up for the French recruits about that particular flat race they contested against each other, can't find the exact quote but it was something along the lines of the trip was ideal for Dostal Phil compared with the other runners in the race, so reading into that (and I know it's easy now, after the bird has flown) you'd say they've actually done well to get as close to Dostal Phil as they did.

I do agree that Dostal Phil will probably be better over time and is probably going to be aimed at a lesser race, but I guess the clues were there, if you believe one guys opinion on the French horses, although I've had a look into him on Twitter and in fairness he seems to know his stuff!
 
In one jump ahead it says 'Time will tell if he is a supreme contender' but should win plenty of pots through the winter months .... fits in with what you've been saying
 
I'm struggling upto now for this race, all I got is Red Jack 'any race' and Annamix (obviously on hype)

Western Ryder is out at Stratford tomorrow, Greatrex has found a suitably soft introduction for the horse and the expectation is that he'll win this comfortably, securing Dickie Johnson is a great booking and something I know connections were trying to do last season.
Win tomorrow then map out the rest of the season which is currently targeting the Supreme....

I watched his schooling, I wouldn't worry about him jumping a hurdle, he wasnt under pressure but he jumped excellently.

Nice formline to assess there as well as Pym beat Flashing Glance 12 lengths off level weights in a bumper back in April

I did see someone put Western Ryder in their 5 to avoid this season... and I think someone else crabbing the Cheltenham bumper form. Be harder to asses with no Fayonagh too.
