Failed Chasers, or exposed Hurdlers. Cant see any of them winning the Stayers Hurdle.
 
Midnight Shadow - drifting like he doesn't have a chance today... almost a backable price on his form.... 8/1 to see if he stays? I Don't personally think he will, but every horse has a price :confused:
 
Aux Ptit Soins the one that's most well backed so far, I thought Black Op would be.


I am looking at the 66/1 for today and Cheltenham a little more seriously, he's the only really bad result for me (bar a rag!)

In the same context, you'd class him as a failed chaser coming in. Fell over fences and sent to the cleeve.

I like APS a lot. Barring 5th in the World Hurdle after a year lay off where he ran very well he is 2/2 at Cheltenham and lightly raced for his age. Hopefully does the business today - going to take 66/1

Hes just won a handicap too. Not like hes improved. Especially at his age. Hes Well held.

Can't believe his price today. Should be atleast 16/1 for today imo.

40L back to 5th in a Championship race :highly_amused:
 
Backed midnight shadow 15/2 ew 5 places. Basically a saver for my stayers bets.
 
Rory Delargy pointed out that Big Bucks is the only failed chaser to have won the Stayers Hurdle since 2000. An interesting stat as there a few who try every year. In recent years the have been:

2018: Bacardys, L'ami Serge, Yanworth
2017: Cole Harden, Shaneshill
2016: Saphir Du Rheu, Bobs Worth.

Perhaps there is nothing in it but I thought it was interesting none the less.

Interesting - assume that's on this week matchbook pod (yet to listen). I definitely think people latch onto the 'Big Bucks failed chaser' angle every year and it's a tad overplayed. He was arguably the best staying hurdler of all time so using him as a marker is perhaps not overly relevant?

That said of that list they have ran fairly decent races as a whole

Saphir Du Rheu came 2nd
Bobs Worth came 3rd
Cole Harden came 4th (did win the race 2 years prior)
Bacardys Fell when was sure to finish at least 4th
Yanworth 6th

L'ami Serge, Shaneshill PU

But that really just shows how the division is so lacking each year that they can generally slot back in at the back end of the year and still be competitive

That was superb. Absolutely no excuses with how the race was run, exactly how you want a trial to be. Paisley Park is on a massive upward curve. Had 25/1 after Ascot but went in again with WH with the boost at 6.49/1. Was still suspect after Ascot but today he stamped his authority on the division

By far the best of the English. By far the best 3m form on offer all year and it won't be beat between now and the festival either. Nothing we have seen in Ireland this year should fear him. Faugheen would bring the house down but have my doubts.

Comes down to a match with Penhill on the day now and whether Mullins can repeat his previous feats. If they go that gallop once again then Penhill will have to be at his best and fittest he's ever been
