I'm of the view it's Ricci, not Mullins, driving the split
I agree with you Ista. Ricci is the catalyst behind it.

So you honestly believe that Yorkhill would run this year, against either Douvan or Faugheen?
Lets say
Faugheen goes Champion Hurdle
and
Douvan makes it to the Champion Chase
are you telling me, Yorkhill would be in either of those races?
Honestly guys... honestly...tell me that Mullins/Ruby wouldn't split them up - when the Ryanair is an option?
I'd give it 1/100 they'd be in different races, if they all made it.
Yorkhill is versatile Kev and could go close in several races, but in the scenario you describe he may well end up in the Ryanair and line up against UDS or/and Djakadam.
The yard have riches and some...
UDS has always been treated below top top class by connections IMO. Avoided Cheltenham when he was unbeaten over hurdles and stepped up to the Ryanair last year when 2m he has only been beaten by SS!
Last year, with Douvan unfortunately flopping, Un De Sceaux would have won the Champion Chase if he'd have been allowed to be in it. He's a better horse than Special Tiara on literally all known form.... if Mullins/Walsh DIDN'T split them up, I am confident they'd have still won at the festival, but it'd have been the CC rather than Ryanair....
The fact is, they split Douvan and UDS as they (rightly!) assumed they could win two races! Mullins had no other strong Ryanair horse that year, but UDS, having come 2nd to Sprinter Sacre in the CC the season before, and then the next season winning the Tingle Creek and Clarance House over 2miles, stepped up in distance?.... That surely makes no sense... if UDS was in a different yard.... would he have gone for the Ryanair? 100% NO! - not on that prep.
The yard do have incredible riches, and they split them up accordingly
So I see what you are saying, Yorkhill might end up against UDS... but that is because UDS isn't regarded as top class by connections
I think you over rate uds kev . They knew he had no chance against a sound douvan and only scraped infront of special tiara the year before on decent ground . Hed been campaigned over further in France over hurdles early season to success at the mid range trip. And the race was a very light one in the ryaniar.
You are agreeing with my point .... UDS was split that season because they thought Douvan was better.
Doesn't matter how highly i rate UDS, That's not what I'm debating with the others.
I do think he'd have won last years race though ... because he's better than special tiara and foxy over 2m![]()
It would be extremely dangerous to assume that Willie will know whether Yorkhill is better than UDS. I'd be very surprised if they've ever galloped together competitively. Mullins bingo comes with a huge health warning. When people get it wrong they often complain about being put away by connections but I'm here to tell you that no-one can be sure until declaration time.

I think this debate has probably run its course but I was slightly surprised by some of your comments here Kev.
I think I read somewhere recently that UDS has won 8 G1s, one less than Faugheen, and there is no other horse in the Mullins yard with more G1s to their name, so I can't buy into the argument that UDS has been treated below top class by connections.
I have no idea where UDS will land in March but it wouldn't surprise me if it was here, equally it wouldn't surprise me if Yorkhill or Min did as well, but I would very much doubt that Ricci would let Min and Djakadam take each other on, the VVM/Limini match up in the Mares last year was very much a break from tradition....
UDS is the most loved horse in the yard because he always gives 100%
That's very difficult.Who is your favourite horse in the yard archie out of interest.... as you have some involvement!
Coney island 14/1 1/4 ew nrnb bog.
Looks huge to me for this . Had to take some of that.
