RSA Chase 2020

Exactly. If Battleoverdoyen was a repeat offender at Cheltenham then fair enough. But he’s only been their once so hard to take that too literally as their were other reported issues at hand.

Just a word of caution JM I remember talking to Ted Walsh in 2000 in the Plough in Ford about Limestone Lad - one of the Irish bankers that year - and he warned that the horse wasn't eating up or drinking up. Some horse are more creatures of habit and don't like overnighting in unfamiliar surroundings. He finished 2nd but probably about 10lb below his best.

Not namedropping but Ted is and was like that and will talk to anybody as long as they are enthusiasts

Slate House hasn't lost much in that run today..... back in novice company is where that experience shoudl help him...he went a PROPER pace today, I think he'll learn a lot from it.

No disgrace in being walloped by a horse single figures for a Gold Cup.

It means Slate House will never be a Gold Cup horse, and he's by no means a good thing in this race.... but I still like the campaigning.... it gives him an advantage in the RSA for me.

I do wish I shared this optimism, not laying on a glove on the first two fair enough but I'd have expected him to be closer to Top Ville Ben for example.

One that's massively under rated. And I'll basically be backing him wherever he goes. Whether that's the ultima the 4miler or
even here , is copperhead.

Hes improved bundles for fences, and hes winning really well with something in hand.
I dont think his current mark would stop him in another big handicap. But tizzards not shy of putting them in grade 1s.

I'm not one that likes handicap form in graded races what so ever.
but if he hypothetically went straight here. I'd genuinely take a chance on him ew at 33s.

I’m interested in the Ultima per that thread. There is a good chance he’s better than that and will compete in the novice events. His next race should reveal all.

The 3 mile thing with champ ...... go back and watch last years Ballymore then we’ll discuss.
Finished his race off at 2 mile 5 ??

Slate House not being very good.

Go back and watch the Grade 1 Kauto Star this season and we'll discuss?

So we rely on other people opinions to pick winners ???
Be an easy game if they were always right don’t ya think ?

Accusing scooby of relying other people's opinions to pick winners is laughable... he is the most opinionated and stubborn fella on here :p :highly_amused:

I need to watch it back but Tizzard said he was either 'astonished' or 'gobsmacked' by how badly Slate House ran, so he clearly thought he was in with a huge chance. I've watched the race back and considering the jumping mistakes he made I didn't think he ran too badly at all tbf. I've probably come out of it with a slightly better opinion of him than I had before, and I think 16/1 EW seems like a good value EW bet and cherry ripe for an EW acca

I’m not accusing him of anything.

All I’m saying is this ......... the 140 rating given to Minella Indo isn’t scientific fact is it ? It’s the opinions and workings out of an external body. If all of these rating were facts, we’d all be millionaires

Why are we even defending Slate House ??? He’s just been mullered to the extent he couldn’t finish the race. He’s simply not able to jump at that kind of speed.

I've been waiting all season for something to put in a performance that stands out and warrants the favs tag, I'm of the view Champ hasn't yet done that and whilst I can see the potential he looks to be the worst of the single digit festival favs.
Slate House was never traveling yesterday, something may come out that explains the run but you couldn't back the horse with any confidence right now.

I have Minella Indo at some nice prices but he needs to come out and beat a very strong field next week to command respect as a fav or near fav.

Never thought I hear myself say this but the 12yo Faugheen looks more appealing every time I look at this race...

Minella indo going straight to the festival isn’t he?

I've already given my opinion on that... post #1532 on page 154 onwards.

Yeah we’ll discuss him beating a superstar in Black op ????
Brilliant form that isn’t it ??

No point trying to put words in my mouth, I am not saying Black Op is a superstar.

His record is: 1/19/41221/33304-122

That's pretty good form, a lot of those are graded races too.

You've not made valid points in knocking that Grade 1 form so far in the Kauto Star.

I'm also not even dewbating that Minella Indo would beat him at Cheltenham.... but I am saying Minella Indo hasn't got better chase for in the book yet.

He's entered for Dublin but I do remember there being talk of heading straight to Cheltenham.
Not sure heading to the RSA on the back of just two chases is the way forward....

Would seem odd given all the talk is how he needs runs to get match fit

Second this. Annoyingly right most of the time, and considered opinions all of the time.

Isn’t it this straight forward? To conclude Minella Indo hasn’t or hasn’t been impressive can only be opinion. I would also agree with Kautothegreat8 that the official ratings are also based on opinion not scientific fact. There are simply too many presently unmeasurable variables it could only possible be based on opinion. I think the handicappers themselves would readily admit that. That said, in my view Minella Indo hasn’t been as impressive as he might have been. Given the form of Henry De Bromhead one might have hoped to have seen a more impressive performance. Despite the adequate performances I still think he has a big performance in him.

I think the RSA victory is between: Battleoverdoyen, Champ and Minella Indo. I struggle to see beyond these three. I think it will depend upon who turns up best on the day, as they are all capable of winning.

I would also mention Willie Mullins , he will want a live chance here and I can see either Faugheen or Allaho coming here , as The Marsh Chase Willie might have either of these two plus maybe Melon and Laurina

Agree, Beast. I’d rather Mullins sent Allaho here and Faugheen Marsh (pocket talking), but noise seems to indicate the other way around!

Slate house clearly flopped this week-end but judging by tizzards comments post race and the money that came in for him it's clear they were expecting a much better run.

For whatever reason he was no good and you wouldn't want to be going to cheltenham on the back of that....if he can put that behind him is he a bet at 16's.

Im unsure wether he's worth a pop at that price or not.
