RSA Chase 2020

Profile/owners/AP link etc

If that's what you want to believe.
Could be the fact that he came to the last at aintree in the 3m grade 1 on the bridle, showing throughout that he can settle and was a class apart.

Add to the fact as mentioned before he's always looked a staying chaser. Hes a fine big stamp of a horse. He's Tactically versatile with a high cruising speed. Last years winner santini went close in the RSA, and santini doesn't have the tactical pace or the class of champ.

Let's let him get his debut out the way and onto the kauto star. Id be confident he'll have little bother winning that. But If he doesn't win that, or an adaquate substitute, I'll hold my hands up.

Scooby, nobody can doubt he looked good at Aintree. But how good is Emitom? And Lisnagar Oscar was beaten further by Minella Indo at Cheltenham and he looks every inch a Chaser.

I agree he looks like he will improve for a fence, but which horse near the top of the RSA market doesn't? I'm not saying I dont think he will win, but I'd want alot bigger than 10/1 at this stage. Just my view.

Beakstown v Sam Spinner at Wetherby tomorrow.

Minella Indo raced way too freely pulling the arms off Rachel Blackmore for almost the whole Albert Bartlett trip and still won with plenty in hand. Backed up the form then at Punchestown with a more settled performance.

Most of Henry’s lot improve for fences so I won’t be looking past him anytime soon.

I'd say emitom is a good horse. Riddled with talent. Needs to improve his jumping, he took the golden highway at aintree following champ through the whole way and jumped as well as he has done, bar a bit of a sloppy one at the last.
Real shame about his setback.

At aintree champ was held together off a slow pace, he was travelling well within himself where mark Walsh purposely only asked him to do anything at all coming to the last. He wasn't asked to try and beat linsagar oscar as far as he could. If they wanted him to put more distance between the field, im sure he could have gone on a hurdle before and given him a kick in the belly to open up. But wasn't necessary, you wont see too many easier winners at that level.

minella indo, i don't think he leaves anything up his sleeve, he gave his all in them 2 races.
IV nothing against him.

Just prefer champ, and backed him accordingly.

Yeah that's the one for me

The race was run at a real crawl on a flat track and turned into a sprint up the straight which couldn't have suited Champ any better. That certainly won't be the case in the RSA. It will be more akin to the Ballymore where they went a real gallop, and when Champ went to quicken between the last two he had very little left in the tank. I think the end to end gallop of an RSA will find him out just as it did there.

I also think the AB bunch was better than than the Ballymore bunch and all of them look like proper RSA horses. Id fancy Minella Indo, Allaho, Carefully Selected will all be pouring it on up the hill and Im not sure Champ will cope with them.

I'd actually fancy Champ more in the JLT myself and if he was moved to that race, I'd really fancy him.

This is the joy of the forum for me. Different views to be tested!

Lets be honest, Champ was never going to win the Ballymore having won the Challow & being 7 years old, it just doesn't happen :devilish::devilish:

The step to 3 miles was/is the making of him, regardless of how the race was run at Aintree, IMO.

:highly_amused: The best trend in the sport.

I definitely think horses like Allaho, Carefully Selected and Minella Indo are most exciting at their prices for this race at the moment... but by no means think Champ can't win it... just not one I'd back at 10/1 at this stage.

Probably have the finger over the betslip during his chase debut though... 10/1 won't look bad if he has a nice technique as the colours/name/profile will keep his price lower than it should be and he may well be a decent trading out option.

Just backed Next Destination at 28/1 with the boost with Hills.

Surely this is the only race for this beast. He's cost me money the past two Festivals so fingers crossed its third time lucky. His form looks top class and I still think he'd have won the Potato race if they'd chosen that instead of the Ballymore with him!

I'd have thought that the atr Mullins stable tour must be imminent and, as a general point, the well-being of his better prospects might be made clearer then.
Of course, it won't cover the chances of Willie changing his mind about any individual horse in the next 24 hours. A couple of weeks ago, the word was that Kemboy might not be out until Christmas. Last week he's entered for the Down Royal race!

That was one of the reasons I've backed ND now archie.

I could of course end up with egg on my face if they say he's not quite back, but I figure it won't take much of a positive comment from WPM for his price to shorten imo... he's always been spoken about as one of their top prospects and his form is there for all to see.

He's nearly 3 times the price of Champ!

I presume you could've held off until the ATR piece in case hes included + then acted fast!? Agree though, he's of interest.

Whenever he's mentioned I always think about Cracking Smart too who I thought would also improve for the step up in trip.

He's been underwhelming since though in the season that ND missed and it's making me feel like horses like Carefully Selected have risen ahead of him in the pecking order.

Decent price though, I am actually tempted, just looking for reasons not to back yet!

Wow, what an interesting race to watch back - the 2.55 at Wetherby.

Really disappointed with Beakstowns jumping... was one I was keen on seeing make chase debut but looks far from polished at this stage, and I'd expect better from a Skelton debutant)

Sam Spinner - wow, what an odd little run! I really like Sam Spinner still, owes me nothing from placing at a big price after being forgotten about as a previous years fav (Stratum another nmotable winner for that theory last weekend too).....

Obviously SS can't be running over any less than 3m, but is the jockey good enough to win an RSA? Probably not.... I'd fancy him 4 miler but unlikely to secure a top jockey so he's in a bit of no-mans land?

A few bookies have cut him to 16/1 for the RSA, still a pretty tasty 40/1 with WH (can be boosted).
20/1 any race with them too.

Introduced at 16/1 only for the 4 miler... gut tells me he won't go there.

I will probably go off him because I already fancy loads in this, but almost 45/1 seems a lil disrespectful based on his festival record (which I admit has no wins)??

After watching that today my first thought was four miler for SS, but couldn't get my head round the jockey angle.
Looks small enough also.
Hopefully Beakstown improves a lot. When he met one right he looked really good.
