RSA Chase 2018

My Novice Chase selections have been very hit and miss so far (Finians, MWTT and Topofthegame) but I'm hoping Monalee can lay down a marker for this at Punchestown tomorrow. It's a potentially tricky opening for him so if he does win then all the better.

Keep nibbling at monalee around 80.0 for the jlt will be interesting to see post race comments should he win, I think this could well be his best trip over fences. And might be the last of the big prices.

I doubt anything will be set in stone after the race tomorrow as they were unsure over the Neptune and Bert Bartlett a few weeks before the Festival. I'd say the same will happen and they'll try various trips and make a decision late on.

Yes of course just wonder if the plan will be to stay at intermediate trips, assuming the drinmore would be be the logical next call.
Death duty, monalee, rathvinden are the3 who interest me on entries. Rathvinden could be overpriced for the jlt/ rsa but he was very fit and was it the heavy ground, or he's come on for his runs.
Would be some training performance to win a race at the festival with him.

Nice performance. Quick and accurate over the fences which is all you can ask for on debut. Invitation Only falling helped the cause but Monalee looks like he's taken to fences well.

Trainer Henry de Bromhead said: "I'm delighted and that's what you dream they'd start like.

“Davy gave him a super ride and he jumped great. He was deadly and I'm really happy.

“We bought him after he won his point-to-point so I haven't had to do a whole lot. He's a very good jumper and was always great over hurdles. We always hoped he'd improve over fences and that would be his game, that's what we bought him for.

“He's in the Drinmore but that was probably just to keep his options open. I'd imagine we'll be looking at the three mile at Leopardstown (over Christmas) and see how we go there.

“He's proven over the trip over hurdles and that was our plan originally.

“He was one of the ones you'd be dreaming of during the summer and it's nice to get this out of the way.

“With any of those top horses in their first run over fences you want to see that they do naturally take to it, as much as they just jump.

“You can say that they'll be a better horse over fences but sometimes it doesn't materialise. You couldn't have asked for much more.

On the possibility of targeting the RSA Chase at Cheltenham, he said: “It's a race that I've always been a little bit wary of. I've had the odd runner in it but not a fancied one.

“That's all a long way away and we'll just try and get to Leopardstown at Christmas, that's a massive one for us."

nothing wrong with that , lovely round of jumping. Next run at xmas will tell us more ,personally slightly prefer Percy performance but only just , going to be interesting to see how he gets on tmrw.

More likely to end up in the JLT than RSA for me!

Bit of an enigma but id like to see tombstone tried at 3 miles over fences, could be the making of the horse.

Bamako moriviere suddy looking pretty good. Hope they try him at 3.

I watched back the Presenting Percy win and have to say I think the race reports are a little bit overboard! I have backed PP for this race, but reading the articles about the race (before seeing it!) I was reading "perfect start" and "hacked around" and that he won with ease. I am not saying it wasn't a good win, because it obviously was - he did jump well to my eye, and did make a very nice move between the last two, to get up to the leader, and round the turn he was travelling better.... but he wasn't winning on the bridle by ANY stretch. He was pushed out to beat De Plotting Shed, who is just solid... so I'd want to see improvement next time before crowning him the best staying novice chaser around.

I don't want anyone getting the wrong impression from this, as I am not knocking what he did on debut, but the way it was written beforehand you'd think he'd won the RSA and upon watching it back, I was left a little short changed. I think it MIGHT be a case, of it being the best performance we've seen so far....and the racing media got carried away (Oddschecker, At The Races

Very disappointed today. with PP Diamond King flopped in the Florida Pearl last year and never bounced back. Hope that doesn't happen but I am a little 'concerned' another defeat and he might end up in a handicap before he bounces back...

Any thoughts on Monalee lads, I know he's favourite but he hasn't really got any holes to pick at?

No real thought on his ability until he's up in class.
I won't knock, him just too short now for what he's done so far

2nd in an Albert Bartlett is good form, the horses he beat that day are solid.. yesterday beating no mug in Any second now..

So glad I haven't invested heavily in this race, bit of a mess the market currently. Death Duty, I think, is the only horse I've backed but I'm seriously thinking Sutton Place could be the one as Yanworth will likely go JLT and think JP will want a solid runner in this too. Probably have a speculative go on him, but nothing more, as apart from DD & Monalee the rest, who have been out haven't screamed back me, yet.

Trainer said he isn't keen on the RSA as a race which would set off alarm bells in my head at 10/1.

Yeah I did see that comment which has worried me a little, but the comment "Iv never had a fancied runner in it" made me question weather he didn't like the race or that hasn't really had a horse good enough to win it.. yet
