WPM said after GDM's second to Mighty Potter that GDM was a Grade 1 horse. If thats true then he will be aimed at the BANC and not the NHC. Ramillies runs today in the first at Thurles for the same trainer and owners. Ramillies has good cheltenham experience and will want every single inch of 3m6f around Cheltenham. If GDM gets re-routed, and I use the word 're-routed' because he is a short priced fav for the NHC and for good reason, then perhaps Ramillies could be the super sub? GDM is only 6 turning 7. There is every chance he has improved further and he wouldn't have much more to find on last years BANC effort to be very competitive. Ramillies is the 50/1 leg that is far more speculative, but I've had him in my sights for this race for a long long time. He's by Shantou, huge, 2 decent runs at Cheltenham and for that reason I think the double (B365) at 662/1 is well worth a few quid.

Feels like a nice angle to have covered - also thrown in France to win today (due to the French breeding line of both these horses - in true 'related' style) :semi-twins:

Had been weighing up the very same charlie

Put a lighter version of this on myself earlier, with similar thought process. Gone with Ramillies to win today and GDM in the BANC. Much shorter price of course, but for good reason.

Charlie, if you do the GDM/Ramillies related double, surely it has to be EW at the current odds ? The place pays over 37/1.....not to be sniffed at and far more likely than both of them winning.

He is a Grade 1 horse. :encouragement:
3rd and 2nd in two very decent Grade 1 Novice Chases already and he's still only a 6yo.

Also a Grade 1 winning 5yo Novice Hurdler.

It's normal practice for many, to assume the likes of Gaelic Warrior and Gaillard du Mesnil might not reach those Grade 1 peaks when they are 2nd season novices - as they didn't win a single race of any sort in their debut season.

But, in their case, they are still young novices, in the top yard, and......

Gaelic was put away after Cheltenham and not declared in the Punchestown Grade 1 4yo Hurdle, specifically to try and see if he could be a top Novice hurdler (he had the Punchestown Grade 1 entry).

Gaillard went to the Irish National off a massive 154 rating as a maiden over fences.
(RW Fred did the same, but off 140 the year before).

He could've gone to the Punchestown Grade 1 over 3M and not the Irish National, but Willie ran Capodanno there instead, and he won that well (having been 4th in the BANC, behind Gaillard, in his previous race)

These decisions back in the spring had second season Grade 1 hopes in mind.

Would still rather he went NHC but got GDM covered in the BANC now, just in case.

When NRNB opens up it could be worth considering horses that need extremes of ground to run in EW doubles. Will be dependent on how big the price cuts are but could be some value in the the 25/1 range. Of course the weather can change overnight so best to have them running on the same day if possible. Now that the Grand Annual is on Wednesday there may also be a collateral form line with the QMCC worth considering if you can find two horses that prefer it quick (wouldn't suit Edwardstone or Energumene).

TSL in the Neville Hotels (7/2) or the BANC (10s) & GDM in the NHC (11/4 or 5/2) pays just under 16/1 or 38/1 respectively as a related double.

With the suggestion that James du Berlais goes Turners tonight from Daryl Jacob in Road to Cheltenham, I’m quite tempted by the double green double - El Fabiolo Arkle and James du Berlais Turners. 83/1… If nothing else it sounds great! :welcoming:
