Punchestown Festival

El Fab didn't deserve that, running the best he has done in a while, hope he's all good.
Fact To File beaten too early for it to be trip related imo, just looked like he'd had enough for the season, but I wouldn't be backing him for the QMCC either.

I’m not so sure, he was jumping plenty quick enough for the first mile or so, as quick or quicker than Marine at times. They have all had similar runs this season as well.

Not going to say I told you so, but I told you so, Allaho mark 2 in regards Fact To File. Marine very impressive, he’s so good on good to soft or better.

Tbf allaho ran much much better than fact to file did today

Allaho just bumped into chacun on his home patch. Hed have won today's race most likely.

Fact to file has now run over 2 miles 3 times in his life and been beaten every time. (Noticing that made me feel stupid for backing him for the CC. I'd still maintain it was a good bet as had he won well today he'd have odds on potential for next march)

Marine won well but doesn't set a standard that's unbeatable

Be down to gino to stay fit, kalif to continue improving or majborough to improve his jumping to beat him next march

He did run better, was more in reference to trying 2m after being a runaway Ryanair winner, after being a not quite 3m+ horse.

Marine has put up 2 high 160’s, possibly 170 performance today, in a row now, don’t think Allaho would have beat him over 2m today, we will never know though.

I'd say they were more mid to low 160s myself

Beating quilixios and old man captain Guinness doesn't convince me he's a 170 horse

He did win nicely though

It's just a piss poor division atm so he has nothing to test him

Had il etait temps turned up here not at Sandown that would've told us more

Not even sure why they bothered trying Fact To File over 2m. But then Willie does some stupid things at times, despite his genius. I'm pretty sure most of the stupid things he does is on purpose though. He damn well knows what he is doing.

A bit like Craig above, I mentioned Fact To File reminding me of Allaho and good few times prior to the Cheltenham Festival, and I've seen nothing to prove I'm wrong yet. Had to be right about something I guess :highly_amused:

Marine Nationale was superb again, holding up that Champion Chase form.

El Fabiolo needs a break from fences. It's really disheartening that they keep trying him over them for me. If they have the horses welfare at the centre of their minds they'll do the right thing now.

It sounds like Ballyburn is done over fences. Stayers Hurdle has to be a serious option now for him, if finding his novice hurdle form when going back over them.

That novice hurdle race was a farce, IMO. Salvator Mundi & Kopek cutting each other's throats. I was actually very impressed Salvator ended up 2nd, I thought he was going to end up out the back like Kopek did.

Pretty sure that race has thrown up some odd results in the past so I won't be taking the form too literally despite Irancy looking impressive.

Kopek looked beat after 100 yards to me

He's a bit of a nut job

So I suspect he's going to either not win a race next season or calm down and win everything

Only one bet for me today, Let's go champ in the 6;05, always seems to run well at this meeting

Mullins blaming himself etc saying he looked burly in the parade ring - maybe he’s worth a second chance and it sounds like the Arkle may now be the target. He is now 7/1 for that and I think yesterday WH wtaf was the same price!

Can put a line through that F2F run. Either something amiss or the season has caught up with him. Marine was very impressive though. Loved the way he quickened up and sprinted away. Won very cosily. He's improving all the time and surely is the one to beat next year.

All the other results were typical of Punchestown. A step too far for most. Nightmare meeting for punters.

So true, Lobos. Small stakes only meeting for me. Always feel this meeting has something about turning up after the party has moved on. Well handicapped GB runners as well to throw into the mix.

Great to see 60 GB runners over the week.

I was there yesterday, 17,000 crowd. Very comfortable. The first sun tan of the season for me as well. Glorious weather though I think they could really struggle with this ground as the weekend approaches.

I think Bambino Fever / Switch from Diesel will be a great rivalry next year

As an arkle backer I wasn't that dissapointed

He clearly didn't run his race

And it pretty much ruled out the champion hurdle

I'd say he's more likely to win the arkle after yesterday simply because hes more likely to run in it

I'd still have him as the best 2 mile novice hurdler by some distance too

You just have to hope he's a better jumper of a fence than he is a hurdle

He has zero respect for hurdles

Some beastly performances today.

Much more like it from some of the more fancied runners.

Top rides from Paul on Jasmin & Galopin. Jasmin surprised me. Don't think Punchestown suits at all so done incredibly well to win, especially jumping the way he did at times.

Bambino Fever fantastic again. Looks a pocket rocket.

Yeah i feel the lack of jumping at the business end at Cheltenham will always suit jasmin

The worry as a stayers backer would be Willie saying ballyburn might revert to hurdles

I can see them trying jasmin over fences

Which if they do I wish Paul townend good luck
maybe he will let JJ ride haha

The only thing I'd say about Jasmin going over fences, despite being a p2p winner, is his size.

Doesn't come across as a typical chaser, to me.

Willie is short in the staying hurdle division so both could represent him I guess.

Agree COD, he doesn't look a chaser at all. Clearly likes Cheltenham and his Albert win had Stayers written all over it to me..

I completely agree but Willie seems to like sending everything chasing if they are a stayer

I've already taken the view that JDV is a stayers horse and covered him to win my target returns already. Townend said he was sure he'd see a fence but wouldn't say it's nailed on they go that direction

Bromley said after Jasmin won the Albert that he'd spend at least another season over Hurdles :eagerness:

Anthony Honeyball usually lands one winner at this festival and Gabriel's Getaway has been well supported in the market. Entitled to have needed his first run in over a year at Donny and hopefully that sets him up nicely for a crack at this.
Very competitive once again though.
6 places on offer at pp

I've also had an ew on Crambo in the Stayers who is unbeaten going right handed and got the better of Hiddenvalley Lake when they met at Ascot on gd/soft in Dec.
9/1 looks solid ew bet
