Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe 2020

I agree bookies shouldn't feel obliged.
But not sure what the problem is.

Goodwill is goodwill.
And should always be welcomed

Unless you're fucking Scrooge.
Or some other miserable bastard.:highly_amused:

Sottsass is now definitely the place only bet for me. He won’t mind heavy, no stamina doubts and this has been the target all year. Now with all the non runners he looks pretty solid to me. Still hope Enable does the business though

Interesting reading up on Zilpaterol and the benefits this could provide to elite horses in training.
For it to be contaminating horse feed is one thing, and the manufacturers need to answer this, as surely a prohibited substance would need to be kept well away.
And also interesting that the Irish testing didn't show it up, as it's designed for tests on cattle only !!!
But the French testing finds it easily enough.
In fact France gallop initiated the manufacturers warning after finding horses testing positive for it in recent weeks.

O.Brien said......

"The Irish Equine Centre can seemingly test only as low as one part in a billion, and I believe the test that they were doing is only for cattle because that is the only one that can be done here. All of the tests we sent to France for the French runners returned positive.

"There is a chance that we could have been okay to run, but we couldn't be sure. To protect the integrity of the whole thing, we have to take them out.

It's dubious at best.
One that the Irish testing system has a big fucking hole in it. And two, that O'brien knows it doesn't show up in the system after a few days (which is common knowledge for many drugs and substances I know)

Interesting article on stradivarius.
Still think he's the most likely to get closest to enable, although sottsass also should be respected.
I think the pace they go will be more crucial to stradivarius than the drop in trip.
I'm not sure now who will make the running, as it was surely going to be one of O'briens.

However, it is extreme ground and anything could happen I suppose.

The problem is consistency. Where do you draw the line? It shouldn't be about some people being lucky and others not.

Horses can sustain fatal injuries on the gallops but not a sniff of a refund in those cases.

I understand where you're coming from.

But surely it's better that some people get lucky, than none at all.
It's like refusing to give to a charity because you can't afford to give to them all.

Bookmakers make 'goodwill' gestures occasionally, and even though these will be made with a business edge to them. They should be welcomed.
Maybe on the occasions that they choose to do so, the funds should go to charity, not back to the punters.

Injured jockeys Fund or Horse welfare etc.

Update on Zilpaterol.
Being a 100% synthetic substance I was surprised how this could be found in horse feed.
Now the manufacturer GAIN have said that they have NEVER EVER used the substance in any of their processes at any stage.

I'd assumed that they may have manufactured cattle feed that contains this and other feeds for other animals that did not. And somehow this had cross contaminated.

This fact makes it even more suspicious, as the recent positive tests on unnamed horses in France, clearly blamed the feed. Which is the first place you'd look (or blame) (or falsely blame).

With Coolmore doing their own private testing prior to any race, or travel to a race it makes the withdrawal of Love a little suspicious.

If GAIN can evidence that none of there feed ever left the warehouse with Zilpaterol in it, then they've got some explaining to do in some yards.

Varian & O'Brien in particular.

Can anyone let me know what bookies do here if you get refunded. I'm intrigued, wasnt on any of them but could make a huge impact on my future investments and decison making especially with ante post betting!

Sky are refunding bets on O'brien runners.

Paddy have voided/refunded too.

Hills have pushed Gold Trip out to 75-1 with boost - I've obviously got em running for cover.

So, chocs away....

Another 1pt each way Gold Trip at 75-1.

Convinced myself he's a better horse in testing conditions and heavy ground is more likely to throw up a shock result.

Who else remembers Jet Ski Lady sluicing through the mud to win The Oaks at 50-1?

Gold Trip doesn't even have to beat Enable - fourth place will do nicely.

That is some price. Think he'll finish top 4.

Fair play paddy and Sky. I thought some may have held off until the result, example think twice if Enable won or not. But I think its gestures like this that keeps customers happy and better for them in the long haul.

I am going to back Enable, heart over head bet, I want to be part of it if she wins.

I'm on her also, after mullins won the first 2 at tipperary.
even more on her if Sizing Pottsie wins (runs after her obviously)

Yeah I had the double with Saint Roi when he went 8/11 too but didn't want to after time it haha.

Come on Frankie :victorious:

Laid off 4pts Gold Trip finishing 1-4 at 4.1-1 to make it a free bet to win 130 points

Enable was fortunate two years ago, couldn't see off an ordinary field last year and it would be a real dent if she can't beat an even worse field this year.

Not many excuses there
