Preview Evenings - links, details and write ups

Thought the Boylesports preview was very good. David Jennings is a fantastic host, not a great tipster, but great with his questions, banter with the panel and decent knowledge. Shark was hilarious, while I do like when Cooper tips up something. Worth a watch although a bit out out of date now as was pre handicaps weights.

What an awful preview.

Through the Grade 1 races and barely anything mentioned below the top 3 in the market, the host just led the discussion to the horses she wanted to talk about - they didn't even mention Protektorat in the Ryanair.

Have to agree. It was just a bloated advert for Tattersalls. Complete waste of time. Did people actually pay to go to that?

I would agree about Jennings but for him it would, in my opinion, be a damp squib. I thought Casey looked bored and gave pretty much nothing. I agree Brian Cooper made a lot of good contributions but then said he would not be there for Thursday (poor racing) only to forget his Dad has a runner in The Pertemps and then put it forward as his best of the meeting! Jennings I think was a bit cheesed off that they were discounting any UK horses. I did get through to the end though!

Trainers, asst. trainers and ex jockeys now attached to yards/ownership vehicles are just carping on about their own horses. Probably handy for the casual viewer, but of no value to anyone with more than a passing knowledge of the horses and the season so far.

Hope to hear from the likes of Gary O'Brien at some point. Jane Mangan too, and certainly her views on the hunters.

Donn McClean must be on one a day at the moment. He sounds like he's avoiding all the shorties. Just needs one of those currently 3/4th favourite to scoot in and he'll bag a meeting profit, as no doubt he'll have tipped it up to his subscribers at much more lucrative odds. That said, like Gavin Lynch, I could listen to these guys all day. Wonder if they're here?

TBH I can't really be arsed with the previews now, and that's fine, cos they're not really for me (or us) anymore. They're all for casuals who don't pay as much attention so they overly focus on the "biggest" races. There's a couple of people I always like hearing from or seeing (as mentioned above Jennings couldn't tip a waiter but he is *so* good at making these things run well) but mostly I just swerve them now. We'll never see the glory days of Davy phoning the hotel to check the weather or posting in the chat on the ATR one "Holy shit is that what Tony Keenan actually looks like????" again

Tend to agree don’t bother too much with previews now.

Watch the PP one and go to the one on the Monday night of Cheltenham at the football ground, more as tradition than anything else. Very little insight gained from what we don’t already know on here.

Do like David Jennings when he hosts anything, that ability is certainly there, the tipping side, not so much but I don’t think or I hope people know not to follow his tips.

Maybe not attending the Monday night one…..it’s been cancelled due to lack of interest.

Put down to many not attending the festival this year or going abroad because it’s so expensive these days.

Shame for the organisers, was apparently their 20th year this year.

That saved the best part of 3 hours. Cheers.

….i might listen to the PP one at 19.30 tonight and post some of their thoughts (Ruby Walsh, Lydia Hislop, Tony Mullins & Johnny Dineen). ATR have theirs at 21.00 but I’d struggle to sit through that for a few hours (Chapman, Mick Fitz, Davy Russell & Tony Ennis).
