Greetings everyone, Southern Ireland, late fifty's. Hurling, Horse Racing and Football in that order. Have a couple of nice mares and also a nice yearling (his full sister won on her debut a couple of weeks ago in France, flat). My nap of the meeting is Klassical Dream, also like Tax For Max in the County posted in the handicap section and Grangee in the Mares Novice.

Welcome C12 - loved the Champion Hurdle post.

Hi all

Thought I'd been reading in the dark for too long and it was only right to sign up and introduce myself. I grew up living in pubs so a Saturday afternoon watching the racing and eating pork pies with my grandad got me hooked early. Fav track is Chester, the inside draw at 6/7f always pays for a good day out.

As far as Cheltenham is concerned I go every year usually Tue and Fri, unfortunately only Fri this year and my 2 favourite moments are imperial commander (big place pot win that day) and native river who I'd been chipping away at all year.

Taking out the hot favs I like Eldorado Allen ew in the Ryanair and Tornado Flyer in the big one.

Out of the favs I can't see anything beating Bob even if GDC turns up, although I'm sure this has been a topic of much debate already.

Thank you for accepting me in all
I have only been into National Hunt for the last 5 years having been living in Oz and being a fan of their flat racing. Very keen reader of the forum over the last 2 years and now will be happy to add my thoughts and views

That's a great favourite moment ITK, welcome! :highly_amused:

I lived in Sydney for a number of years, and despite being a jumps man, I found the metropolitan racing pretty easy to get a handle on. Where in Oz were you STS?

Hi Spectre, we really loved our 5 years there and their passion for racing was excellent.
lived in Sydney - mainly Balmain. Frequent trips to Randwick (saw Black Cavier! Missed Winx though) and Rosehill and in my final week I visited Warwick Farm. Never did any other State raving sadly.
what about yourself?

Evening all!

Looking forward to getting stuck into the upcoming seasons both over the flat and National Hunt!

Been going racing as long as i can remember, would always go with my dad and he'd give me a fiver a race to chuck at anything with a name i liked! so i imagine he was often shaking his head when i told him what i fancied! sometimes i think I'd be better off if i still went with the names i liked, but that wouldn't be any fun would it?

lets hope for a huge week next week some unbelievable clashes to look forward to! will be there for the first 3 days, so will have Guiness coursing through my veins i imagine.

Hi all I've been aware of the forum for a couple of years now, I'm sure I share all the punters dream of getting the big one up. Lucky 15s and patents my normal choice of bets. I have had some limited success but pray for the biggy ( one of these days ), I've been trying since I was a 14year old board marker in my local bookies some 40 years ago. I am a Novice knowledge wise in comparison to some of the members on here but I am keen to learn other opinions and views. I wish all of the members the very best of luck with this forthcoming festival. I feel I am going into battle with more ammunition thanks to all the information I have absorbed from these very pages. Thanks guys

Also Sydney. Northern Beaches.

Randwick and Rosehill, with a smattering of Warwick Farm occupied most of my Saturday afternoons. I actually found Australian racing quite easy to read. I.e. what was trying and when.

Fair - finding value was hard though

Morning all. I'm Rob, 27 and was introduced to horse racing at a very early age by my Dad. I have always been a football fan though and never really took to it until the last 5 or so years when I'd watch Cheltenham and some other big races around the jumps season. My knowledge is still pretty limited but just from lurking on this forum the past few weeks I feel like I've already learned quite a lot so I'm enjoying getting in some discussions to increase that even further.

Cannot wait for The Festival and have booked the week off work to enjoy it from home. Favourite horse would have to be Altior as he won me my first ever bet on a race which I believe was the Supreme in 2016.

Afternoon everyone to the best week of the year!
My love for National Hunt racing and Cheltenham stems back a long way, one of my early Ante post bets was Imperial Call in the 96 Gold Cup, I remember Charlie Swan making a positive comment about it, so I backed it at 40/1, SP was 9/2 I think. Love to beat the bookies, sweet moment yesterday when Surprise Package won albeit I had 16/1 with Paddy, SP 20/1 they restricted me last year and kicked me out of their free bet club. Too many bookies restricting, but can still beat them, that's what its all about!
Love listening to podcasts, Gavin Lynch and Tony Keenan particular favourites, banter on the Finishing Line is great if nothing else. Always listening for that nugget of info that can be used towards a good bet.
Lucky 15,s are a favourite bet of mine, I had Pricewise L15 just before Xmas, lucky thing was I chose Trytonic over Gerry Claremont in the last leg, but when commentator said Gerry Claremont was improving entering the straight did wonder why I didnt split the pair, still it worked out in the end.3rd Lucky 15 up it was.
Looking forward to Cheltenham 2022, but lots of gloss taken off by Sir Gerhard Dysart Dynamo shenanigans, still hoping Willie has last minute change of mind for Gallopin, but doesnt look too promising, if not then hope Bob produces the goods and turns it over and leaves Willie with egg on his face lol
Good Luck everyone next week and I hope many of you can come out of it in profit.

Hello everyone! hope you all had an enjoyable and profitable festival :welcoming: My name is Stu and I'm 34. I've followed Horse racing since my early teens, mainly National hunt and have chosen my username after the first winner I ever had that I can remember, 2003 Grand national hero Monty's Pass who is a mere four weeks away from his 29th birthday which is incredible and extremely pleasing to hear he is still going strong! :applause: My Dad always cut the sweepstake out from the paper for the National and that year my Sister happened to pull out 33/1 shot Monty's Pass (I don't even recollect who I had) the significance of this was that she had a guinea pig... called Monty... who had passed away a few weeks earlier... so this is where my cover betting began as I couldn't bear the though of her winning and me losing.. so I told my Dad to chuck a fiver on for me when he went up the bookies (apologies for the 19 year after timing :untroubled:) as we both won it is a very fond memory and one that probably started my love of horse racing proper. As far as punting goes I used to bet on Football a fair amount along with jumps and the flat and only really bet on Cheltenham the week of or when NRNB came out. After the 2021 festival I decided to bet antepost throughout the year and see how I fared compared to betting NRNB closer to the time. I felt I had a very good week this year with some nice winning bets and have decided to exclusively bet antepost for the Cheltenham festival going forward. I pretty much gave up on the footy a few years ago and I imagine I'll barely touch the flat this season if it all as I don't love it anywhere near as much as jumps. Unfortunately for me I only came across this forum during the week of the festival and since then I've been scouring through the various threads with much enthusiasm, there certainly are some great opinions and extremely well presented reasoning throughout which is exactly what I'm looking for as I don't really have any friends who are into horse racing that I can discuss opinions with and get other perspectives (I need new friends right!?) Last year I mainly relied on podcasts, blogs and your usual horse racing news sites to get my info from and I can already tell that this forum is going to be the best source out there for information and discussion which I'm very much looking forward to being a part of. I don't have any affiliation with a yard or know anybody inside of racing so in that regard my knowledge is very limited. I will however get stuck in as much as I can and hope to learn a lot from bouncing ideas around on various threads. The antepost diary section is one I'm keen to contribute too and I'll likely be starting one up and listing my fancies for 2023 in that very soon and any feedback is welcomed especially constructive criticism as I like having my views challenged as it helps me think things through more thoroughly.

Anyway, I've read through the forum guidelines and look forward to joining in soon :chuncky: and thanks to Kev for allowing me to become a Fat Jock :very_drunk:

Welcome on board Monty. It's always good to hear how people got interested and where the motivation and passion came from.

As an aside I met one of the owners of Monty's Pass at a hotel I was staying at in Ascot a few weeks ago. He's also the main owner in the Tide Turns that disappointed in the Boodles. I think he said MP was his first step into ownership. What a way to start!

Hello all, been a regular visitor to this forum for a few years and thought it was time to get involved properly. I’m
Sam and 36, fortunate to live in the Cotswolds not far from Cheltenham. Got into racing by total accident really…love most sports and was a typical once a year Grand National race watcher - and more for the betting than the racing. Then in 2013 I happened to be off work for a few days sick and watched the C4 coverage of the festival, watching Champagne Fever somehow hang on to win me a nice return in the first got me hooked. I still have no idea how My Tent or Yours didn’t win that…the in running odds would have been interesting. And revenge was served when my first antepost bet (placed that day) failed a year later, same horse mugged on the line by Scudamore in the Arkle (forgotten the name of the horse…)

Have so many fond memories now, from the Annie Power disaster to the unreal Sprinter Sacre returning to win, and have been fortunate to be at the festival most years since 2014, across all days. I have seen some good Supremes now, albeit Constitution Hill was seriously good - stood next to the final hurdle was a pleasure for that. One of my favourite stories was also linked to the Supreme, a good friend from Cork came over to the festival for the first time and was absolutely adamant that Altior was going to beat Min - so confident that he wanted to stake his whole weeks budget. Managed to persuade him that Min was a good thing and to perhaps save half his pot…unfortunately for him he listened to me!!

I am already building my book for 2023 (with some help from some great early shouts) and looking forward to some good chat about the Aintree and Punchestown festivals.
