Hi Ronnie and all forum members,
First time poster, long time admirer of the forum so i hope i can contribute in some way.
Got into racing in the seventies when my dad would place a bet for me every saturday.
Grand Canyon the new zealand bred horse turned out to be one of my favourites.
First trip to cheltenham was in 1986 to see Dawn Run win the Gold Cup.

Great day to make your Festival debut GC.

That was some race followed by a mass invasion of the paddock the likes of which we'll probably never see again.

Yes Nortoncoin, a day i wish everybody could have witnessed
Cheltenham eurpted in a way you could never forget.
My friend and i pooled our money and decided to go all in,
if she lost we were getting the ferry home that night,
if she won we would stay in Birmingham till Sunday
Boy,was i glad i did that.
if she won we

Afternoon,

I've been enjoying reading all the opinions on here for a while now and it seems like a friendly ego-free zone so thought I'd come along for the ride :)
Gave up working as an actuary then odds compiler some time ago to concentrate on this full time and so far so good.
Love the festival and couldn't imagine the long winter months without it!
No favourite horse but a bit of a Paisley Park (and Emma Lavelle) fan.

Hi all - like many here I've been enjoying this site as a lurker for the past couple of years, but have now signed up. My interest in racing was started by going with a friend on Cheltenham Gold Cup day in 1995, and have been to every Festival day bar a handful since then. I've been an annual member at Cheltenham for the past few years, and also go to the King George and DRF every year (although sadly not under the current circumstances).

I look forward to chipping in here and there on the various threads (especially regarding the Festival), and just hope that come March we're still able to watch the best horses all competing against each other, regardless of whether any of us will be able to witness it in the flesh or not.

Welcome Block 205. You don’t have a season ticket in the Kop by any chance? :watermelon:

Hi All, I've been a member for a while but have now taken the plunge to become a poster. I've been going to the festival since 2003 but it is only in the last couple of years I've been taking it more seriously and getting involved ante post. I love reading the views on this site and have learned a lot. My knowledge is still a long way short of a lot of people on here and was delighted that the patron system was brought in as finally I feel like I can give something back. Hopefully as my knowledge improves I'll be able to contribute more on the posting front too. Thank you to all those whose hard work helps keep the site running.

Hi Brital - not a season ticket holder I'm afraid, but back in the days that everyone could everyone could get in there, I saw every home European game on the way to Istanbul in 2004/05 there - best view in the house!

Its a shame it won’t be this Sunday.

Hello all, long time lurker thought I would take the plunge and sign up. Quite new to Racing compared to most, last 10 years or so my love for NH has grown out of Cheltenham firstly but now enjoy it all year round of course. Favourite horse has to be Sprinter Sacre, that 2016 QMCC will live long in the memory. Good luck all.

Alright lads, short time lurker, had to sign up when i saw high quality racing discussion as that has become pretty rare these days. Ive been a racing fanatic for well over a decade now, im a flat man but enjoy cheltenham build up as well, focus has recently shifted mainly to the long game, quality horses in quality races at hopefully quality prices. Discipline and control has always been my achilles heel and playing the long game helps me to stay in control. Ive had my fill of gambling and wasting all my good work betting blind race to race on poor racing, the upside of that is i have a few accounts i can get decent bets on although have lost a couple recently.

Looking foward to getting involved in the discussion for cheltenham and beyond.

Hi folks. I've only relatively recently discovered the Fat Jockey forum and have been happily reading for a couple of weeks. Thanks! I've been really impressed by the levels of coherence, analysis and dedication on show. What really convinced me to join (in) though was reading the 'Why Are We Doing It?' thread, and feeling as though I could have written parts of a number of the posts in there and that lots of what I love about racing is shared amongst the membership here. I'd like to share a longer post there at some point but for now I thought I'd start with a quick hello and a few basics about me to help explain who's behind the keyboard. I'm a bloke in my 30s with a young family and therefore less time than ideal to indulge in what is now probably my favourite sport. I guess I'm a relative newcomer to racing (~12 years total and ~7 more seriously) so my favourite horses are those who have made an impact/ impression on me in the last few years, the likes of Coneygree, Cue Card, Tiger Roll and Special Tiara. In general I love a chaser that does it from the front. Other sports I particularly enjoy are motor racing, and football (both proper and American), where I support teams which were last consistently successful before I can remember (Everton, 49ers).

I've noticed that there's a real community feel to this place (The "I'm Struggling" thread is a piece of class), which is admirable, and in time I'd like to become part of that. The community, not "I'm struggling", that is. :smile-new:

Three new members in a day!

Welcome all and thank you for taking the time to introduce :)

Evesham Road - also, you may be pleased to see we have an 'other sports' section ... you aren't alone with the love of the NFL.

Hello All. A short time lurker here having only found this site not long ago and boy it was worth it. Some great conversations, discussions and opinions being shared by so many. It's always been an opinions game leading up to the actual showdown of a race which makes this sport so good. So I thought I'd join in on the fun and games, hoping to gain a few bits of information and hopefully share some as well.

The Flag is Raised. And they're off!!
