National Hunt Chase (4 miler) 2018

No Comment declared in the Scilly Isles. I'm taking 25/1 nrnb

Has anyone got a copy or access to the RP from Wednesday (or could be the Weekender)? Apparently Colin Tizzard said Elegant Escape will be going for the RSA?

Nonsense decision from a nonsense trainer. Held over 3 miles by black corton, ballyoptic and Mia’s storm

Personally I hope Elegant Escape does go for the RSA just because I fancy Sizing Tennessee and he could well go for this if EE gets rerouted..

Run the horse in the race it has the best chance of winning, is usually a pretty solid rule. For me that would be EE 4 miler, Sizing Tennessee Ultima

I agree, both would have little chance in the RSA, I just fancy ST for this more than EE but thats just IMO but I could see why people also like EE..

I also hope he does and think he will. He deserves to go for the race after his solid run at Christmas. You never know whats going to happen around him during the race and he jumps and gets the trip very well, if he was mine thats where id be sending him and wish the owner the best of luck

I disagree with 'deserves to go for the race'. If he was mine I would want the horse in the race he has most chance of winning. Might be wrong but just don't see him as a top class 3 miler, never came close over hurdles over that trip, and his chasing form is far too inconsistent. The one constant with the horse is that he has stayed on takingly in most of his chase runs, the 4 miler looks an obvious fit

Am probably too anti-tizzard at the moment to give a wholly rational view though..

If trained by henderson i'd probably be applauding him for looking after the horse with his long term future in mind :highly_amused:

Nothing new to offer but these were the Tizzard quotes after EE's last race at Kempton:

"I would think they will both (Elegant Esacpe and West Approach) go for the RSA. Elegant Escape is going to be six in a few days and we could think about putting him in the four-miler as well."

So we shouldn't be too surprised if he has reiterated that again. That said as someone who is on him at a big price for this race (which I also think he has a better chance of winning) I'm hoping the Racing Post quotes from Wednesday were just regurgitating the quote above as there has been plenty of money for EE in this race since then, obviously no guarantees that is from sources that know more than us.

Added rathvinden 16/1 nrnb bog ew.
Patrick on board in the flogas I know they need jockeys and can't take that literal at all but it's good to have experience riding him.

Duty duty 12/1 ew nrnb bog
Mossback 25/1 ew nrnb bog
Rathvinden 16/1 ew nrnb bog
Moulin au vent 20/1

Cashed out presenting percy for 3 x my stake back already which covers 2 of them.

EE would have been beaten out of sight by Fountains Windfall at Christmas so I struggle to see him beating FW in the RSA, and that's before you add in Black Corton and the Irish contingent.

Very hard to say that about fountains windfall. . He falls in a whole over hurdles at a higher grade when tanking along infront like that. The race he won was a nothing race

Didn't Ista find a 50/1 value bet for this race? Maybe his money isn't on yet, so will let him post the selection if still fancied. :)

He never travelled anything like that at Wetherby over hurdles and was beaten with half a mile to run. That could easily be down to him needing the run fto.

I think Kevloaf did :p :devilish:

Impulsive Star...

LAst run 19th Nov, 3/4 in an alright race... over 2m7f

Led after 2nd, hit 5th, reminders after 8th, headed 10th, soon shaken up, led after 12th, headed 5 out, soon ridden, held when hit 3 out, stayed on same pace from next, hit last (op 5/2 tchd 9/4)

Reads like he needs at least 4 miles :highly_amused:

Could very well have the highest OR in the race based on where others will go and that's been a massive plus in the race

Presenting Percy (157) - RSA
Invitation Only (153) - RSA / JLT
Black Corton (155) - RSA
Rathvinden (152)
Elegant Escape (150)
...

Highest OR, Patrick Mullins onboard...I like it

I like Rathvinden however they have had their share of problems with him
Can't help thinking running in this was not the long term plan
Unusual race programme for him
They ran all through the summer last year

They seem to have had a pretty clear run with him this year though unless I missed any issue between December and now (I assumed it was just a break?) Has placed in 2 runs at the track including a third in the Neptune behind Faugheen and Ballyalton.

Although running through the Summer is a more unconventional route for most festival runners, Tiger Roll did similar running 10 times between May and October 2016 and then went onto win the race.
