Fakir’s jumping was outstanding but Samcro loomed up impressively. What a shame indeed. Fakir back to the Arkle and doubled with Samcro in the JLT?

Probably not much value in that as neither are over priced?

Fakirs jumping will put a lot of horses in trouble but the ability is clearly there with Samcro, looking around there doesn’t appear to have been any reaction with the bookies

If you look at Samcro's races last season, he travelled well and caved in when he came under pressure, usually about two out. Connections have claimed that they never found anything wrong but have treated him for bursting blood vessels and wind problems. Both of these treatments will only be tested when he's under pressure again so it's still an open question what would have happened had he stood up today.

Samcro looks a different animal this year. Elliott is quoted as saying Samcro was scoping badly all last season. This does beg the question: why did they run him if he wasn’t well. However, he looks back to his Novice Hurdle year standard to my eyes. I think he’ll be the JLT winner, although the Mares allowance might give Laurina a good chance.

It would result in a 1/5 favourite or something but i hope Elliot takes a pull with Samcro and gives him a easy race next time to fix that jumping. Hope they don't throw him back out in a G1 straight away.

I don't see the Samcro incident as a fall. Although he clipped lightly the top of the 2nd last, it was a slip on landing and slithering on ground that did him.

Hi Scooby - I don’t think Samcro jumped badly but he didn’t jump as well as Fakir and as a result lost significant ground at a number of fences. His ability got him back level and by heck was he travelling well when falling / slipping. So I agree he jumped ‘fine’, as in ‘ok’, but he could have jumped better.

Interesting, i don't think he was anywhere near as fluent as the eventual winner at any stage.

I think he'd have won still, but given he fell i'd prefer they give him an easier assignment next time. Graded race yes, G1 no.

Yep!

And Samcro still at 6/1 is plenty generous enough still if someone hadn't already got involved. Plenty on here fancy Fakir for the Arkle before and after today, the way I read today's race was Samcro was all over him, before the unfortunate event.

He dosent need to be perfect, look at alboum photo. You can be a brilliant jumper, but if theres a horse with a superior engine, he can get away with losing a bit of ground at his fences.

Impossible to know whether Samcro would have went past Fakir in the straight as no one knows what they had left under the bonnet. Jockeys style can confuse this at times. One thing for sure though is Fakir certainly powered all the way to the line.

Of course you can- but having fallen, i'm just saying i'd prefer him to take in an easier race. He goes in to a g1 at xmas and does it again, it's then a problem. Not worth the risk.
