Mares Novice Hurdle 2018

I’ve never once pretended to give inside knowledge or even know anybody involved with the racing scene but...
A friend knows the owner of Maria’s Benefit and apparently it’s a nothing injury she is fine and she will be 100%. They are quite confident of turning over the Mullins novices.

I’ve told him they are talking rubbish and she won’t be winning! But potentially useful info

Been told that she is very well (salsaretta) and hoping she gets a change of luck with injuries! 8/1 NRNB with PP looks a very good bet to me, at start of the season she and Annamix were the novices that were considered most exciting by RR.

Do you think the intention is to run next week billy or just a wait and see how she is?

She’s still entered in the maiden at Clonmel on Thursday

Clonmel off. I think that will make it difficult to get her to Cheltenham.

Think that will be that then, unless they run her against the boys in a Novice Hurdle somewhere

It's all about Laurina anyway!

I did have Salsaretta in plenty, mostly because she was the talked about horse for Ricci, but Laurina is the one that has done it on the track. Her times have been brilliant, visually she looks an absolute star and I do think she will be the Mares' Hurdle winner next season, once she hoses up in this at the festival....tin hat at the ready when something goes wrong now and she doesn't win :highly_amused::highly_amused:

14 and 15 entered up in the two races next Tuesday...

Suppose 5 days shouldn't make much difference. Still have 3 weeks to the Festival.

Smashed Alterix who won a mares handicap hurdle very easily since.

Indeed!!

Don't know about Samcro being the 'second coming' but I honestly think this girl will put it up to Apples Jade next season should they meet!

I suppose the main worry with Laurina is the ground. Her breeding isnt conclusive but she does have the same sire as Crack Mome who definitely seems to be a soft ground animal.

Far too much stock being placed in Mullins' lightly raced hype horses if you believe Laurina is going to reach the same heights as Samcro :p

She isn't even the novice mare with the highest reputation in the stable is she?

No, the Samcro reference was more with listening to Matt Chapman and co in that he is the second coming haha!

I think she is incredibly talented, and for a change I am backing my instinct with what I have seen from her rather than the one with the 'reputation', because I done that with Annamix and last year with Senewalk, and although the jury is still out regarding Annamix I think it's fair to say Senewalk is not even close to backing up the original reputation he had been given.

I don't remember Laurina being a 'hype' horse, but she is now but only because of her performances and not a pre-race hype like many others before her.

I think I am perhaps thinking about recency bias from last year, when the clear favourite for this race from a long way out (the much loved Airlie Beach) was fav, before being usurped by Let's Dance that I wasn't particularly happy about.

I've backed Laurina and Salsaretta so it isn't the same this year, and the profiles aren't the same at all either.... I just don't want to get too excited by one run, when it isn't certain she goes off as the stable number 1.... (If Salsaretta does take up her entry, it is feasible she becomes the number 1 for this race?)...

It's totally feasible she is the number one. If she dodges it, they might not fancy their chances taking on Laurina, which I suspect may be the case giving that there has been talk for a while of holding on till next year.

I think there is something else to consider here.. and that's Willie trying to give his biggest owners winners.

Jared Sullivan has been a huge backer this past year or so, and Im sure Willie will be desperate to give him a Festival winner. Laurina looks far and away his best chance of doing so, and I think that may even enter his thoughts with plans for Salsaretta.

RR is no doubt still his number one owner, but JS is probably number two now.
