Mares Hurdle 2020

Noticed today that Honeysuckle slightly drifted on PaddyPower today, if you then use their boost you can get a standout 7/4 NRNB. If you’ve backed Honeysuckle at any price bigger then 9/2 you can cash out and re-invest for no difference in the payout.

Thought it was worth mentioning just in case your in a similar position as me, and it’s a safe play. Following their recent comments I’m starting to come round to the fact their heading to the champion Hurdle.... fingers crossed.

I wonder if the fact Elfie won yesterday for the same connections and heads to the mares with place claims would add any fuel to the fire for a champion hurdle bid for the honey monster !

Id be hopeful that Honeysuckle goes to champ hurdle i read the comments and De Bromhead has pretty much said with benie winning at 3miles and with it likely to be soft ground maybe that is the perfect course and distance for her so they may swerve and go champ hurdle ill be very happy with that!

What date will it be confirmed that BDD runs here please? As in final decs?

Are we expecting Honeysuckle to be left in both until Sunday?

Yeah :(

They'd be mental not to wouldn't they? Unless BDD got injured.... then they'd just commit to Mares?

We may have a fair idea on Monday, latest Tuesday when Willie has met with Ricci this weekend.
If the Honey connections know by then what BDD is entered in then they may commit at that point.

Not sure quite how much the entry fees ramp up but they must know where they are going by 5 day decs.

An injury to BDD would change things though I suppose.

Well I don't expect Mullins to commit her to the Mares before he has to?

I don't really think Honey's connections will know anything they don't already know?

Unless Benie gets supplemented, they're then almost certain to be in the Mares Hurdle (but we all know that).

Honey connections will surely just be waiting on ground now, rather than opponent?

Do we really think Benie will go to the champion hurdle.. no and do we think Mullins would take on Paisley Park while bypassing the easier option in the mares... no. That’s literally as black and white as it is. The difference with her and Annie power is Benie is more of a 3 miler Annie got outstayed in a world hurdle by More of That then won a champion hurdle. From memory Benie has only ran in Ireland once over 2 miles and that was on heavy ground in 2018. She also ran over 2 miles and half a furlong in France and came 4th so I really can’t see them even contemplating the champion hurdle.

They'll announce if they are supplementing or not.
And therefore based on that knowledge Honey's connections may commit one way or the other.
If the stayers is still a player for BDD then they'll wait till closer to 48 hour decs for sure.

That's all lovely.
But if you owned BDD ?
Who would you be worried about in the champion hurdle, knowing Honeysuckle wouldn't be there if you are.
It's a shit load more money and prestige and she's won the mares before. All the people saying unfinished business are talking bollocks as she's won the race already.
Annie had unfinished business and finished it by winning the champion.

In fact a good game to play for anyone who has no idea who might win the champion hurdle.

Imagine all the runners in a head to head with BDD over 2 miles at cheltenham on soft ground with her getting 7lbs on the geldings.

If in any of those match races you get BDD losing then there's your champion hurdle winner and you should absolutely lump on.

If they announced they are supplementing, then Honeysuckle would go Mares?
Then they could do what, trick Honeysuckle's connections and not face her?

I don't see how they're connected anymore really? I'm lost :highly_amused:

Mullins and Co would prefer Honeysuckle in the CH regardless of where BDD goes? They'd be then more likely to pick up the Mares as well?

Personally, all a waste of time, I feel I know where BDD is going.

For my betting it will be rubbish if she goes CH, for the sport, freaking brilliant.

I wouldn't have her losing any. Still don't think they'll go down the CH route though.

I think she’d win 4 races at the festival but that’s besides the point, Willie has supplemented Cilaois Emery because they think he could go close to winning, if the forecast is to be believed the ground will dry out so that brings Sharjah back into the equation. Why run her in the champion if they can definitely have a winner in the mares that’s Willies mentality. We’ve seen that in the past with Quevega. On all past runnings she is a 3 miler not a 2 miler so only likely race would be the stayers if she defected but can’t see her lining up against paisley park.

The two questions in this conversation appear to be related to when will we know which race the respective mares will be running in.
All I'm saying is it could be sooner than Sunday depending upon what BDD connections do regards the potential supplement.
If they do then I'd expect Honey to conform for the mares on the spot.
If they don't then they could also choose to commit to the Champion earlier than Sunday too, unless the stayers is left dangling for BDD.

Cos Willie don't own her that's why.

I kind of agree. It doesn't look like they will, although the silence from the people that matter is deafening.

If they think the same as us it also makes them look stupid, or at least making the wrong decision.

The biggest head scratcher's I'd have in the head to head game would be Honeysuckle, and Epatante.

Cilaos Emery being supplemented has nothing to do with the decision for BDD. Luke has clearly made his decision without any guarantees from any other parties, and will be told of any other supplements before he stumps up any cash anyway.

Right okay, I follow.

Yes, if they say they're sending BDD to the CH, then we'll definitely know prior to the 48-hour decs.

The BDD for Stayers will be left as late as possible IMO in case PP gets injured.

My guess would be, she isn't supplemented, and goes for the Mares UNLESS Paisley Park is declared injured between the 5 day and 48 hour stage.

Nothing controversial there.
