Mares Chase 2021

I can just imagine Willie's eyes lighting up if that is the case and they work it out. I'll have to tweet him to make sure he knows :anonymous:

Yep, and colreevy owners can't moan as they pushed Willie to run at Limerick the last day.

I maintain, Salsaretta has been the worst favourite for an ante post race that I've seen.

Laughable that this is even a race, what a bad, bad race.

Get Benie over fences Willie :devilish:

Agree. I could never understand her being fav and can't imagine anyone wanting to back her on what she's achieved or not achieved.

She’d be going some to get three runs in for a mark and then the Grand Annual. I’d say there’s no chance she goes there, and the Mares Chase is the only practical option over fences. If she doesn’t win her novice first they’ll may even keep her novice status intact for next year and go back over hurdles.

I agree. Maybe she will just take her chance in the Mares Hurdle this season.

Definitely. I'd be thrilled, had I not had 5 points on Salsaretta in a double with Ginto for this afternoon :boxing:

Please tell me you are kidding !

Ironically if BDD does turn out for this and wins, then the organisers will eulogise about what a fitting winner she is for the inaugural running of this prestigious new race.

Willie will have little influence on where BDD goes, the owners want wins, if she goes here she's so much more likely to do that, than take on Honey again and possibly lose, again..

Haha, yes you're absolutely right.

To be fair I'll do well out of it if she does so I won't be flapping my gums so much but still :tyrannosaurus:

I don't think I could disagree more that "Willie will have little influence on where BDD goes".......

That is an absolutely bananas comment.

All your points for that being true would be true about Willie?
Why wouldn't Willie want her in this?
If anything, the owner has literally mentioned concerns about Mares going chasing.
I'd suggest it's more Willie wanting to win this than Mrs Ricci!

Imagine if BDD goes into this race getting weight from her principal rivals! That will be obscene and assuming PTKO keeps down the QMCC route, she could be an absolute penalty kick.

Ditto re Dame De Compagnie who holds early closer entries at Cheltenham for the CH, Mares Hdle, Stayers Hdle and Mares Chase but no hint yet of a jumps debut.

At least BDD has Chase experience but maybe WM is happy with Colreevy, she won OK LTO and looked as though she would improve for the run.

What else is there for this ? Might Robin De Carlow sneak back into the picture depending on how recovering from injury ?

The early closer entries on the Racing Post are just them guessing as far as i know

Yep. It's pointless by the Racing Post even having a potential entries. It annoys me:hopelessness::glee:

No, Benie is 10 now, this isnt an up and coming youngster, the owners probably couldn't care less about a revenge mission against honeysuckle. If they want wins, and benie is fine. I see no reason why they wouldn't say to him they want this race?
Maybe I phrased it wrong, he does have influence, but, not as much as he used to with her..

Just playing devil's advocate, but as a 10 year old Mare that they probably love.... could indicate they'd be a lot less inclined to send her over a fence than a hurdle.

They would want to win any race, you're creating a narrative that might not be there but defending it and backing it as if it's true.

I'm sure you know, I want her in this race, but if she does it's not because Willie doesn't want to and the owners are adamanet she does! Going back to your original comment, it is bananas to suggest Willie will have little influence. He'll have a huge influence.

In the Rich Ricci interview for OJA, he says that 'Willie is likely to have one eye on the new mares chase, otherwise she's be campaigned over the good hurdle races over 2.5 miles plus.'

Sounds like it will completely be the trainers decision.

Townend gave a strange ride.
and her head was tilted, I wonder if something around her gob was bothering her.

ELIMAY’s form from last years Mares Novice Chases just got a decent boost there. She beat today’s winner by 5 lengths last season when making her seasonal (and Chase) debut and Augusta Gold already having had three fence runs that season (312).

Then Elimay gave her 3lbs and a 13 length beating the next time out.:onthego:

I like Elimay.
But the price has never been right, even on the exchange.
I bet it stays the same when NRNB comes in.

At the start of the season there were conflicting comments around where Benie Des Dieux would be aimed. Patrick talked about a hurdles campaign and Willie referred to her going chasing but also mentioned hurdles as well - quote below.

'She had a little setback so won't be appearing until the second half of the season. She's a fantastic jumper over fences and I'd imagine we'll be going over fences. We'll look at the mares' chase at Cheltenham, or there is the mares' hurdle too'

BDD is unbeaten over fences but she has beaten very little in her three chases. However, her jumping is really good and she put in almost a perfect round of jumping with Townend on board on her first chase start at Limerick.

She clearly goes well fresh and would have won the Mares hurdle after a long absence if she hadn't fallen. If she is coming here you would expect them to have a run over fences first. She could go for the race she won at Naas before the 2018 festival but that's over 2 miles so they might be looking for a race over a longer trip. Does anyone have any ideas?

If they follow the same route as last year and run in the Galmoy hurdle you would have to think they will stay over hurdles - things should become clearer towards the end of the month.

I'm really hoping she'll come here and she would be a short price particularly off the back of a win in a prep run. If she doesn't it could be a tip in itself for what Willie does run in the race. I was really impressed with how Colreevy battled back after a bad mistake at the last at Limierick and she looks the obvious one if BDD stays over hurdles. A G1 penalty would make things more difficult though assuming she gets one.

BDD into 4's in places for this today. I'm fairly sure she'll come here because it's the easiest race. Nothing easy about taking on Honeysuckle over 2m4f as she learnt last year, and I doubt they're in a rush to give a 10 year old servant like BDD a tough time. Willie goes for the easiest option unless his hand is forced. RR wont force him so I am confident she will end up here. The cherry on the cake is how sick Concertista looks. He has a very good one there that is more than capable of serving it up to Honeysuckle, again making this race IMO more likely. People are wondering when we will see her - I don't want to see her before the fez because she runs really well off a lay off, and would have absolutely pissed in at 10/11 in the mares hurdle were it not for falling, and that was after being off 11 months. My main concern was PTKO coming here and not QMCC, but I think PTKO ran a gallant enough effort in defeat vs CPS for her connections to take aim at her beloved Cheltenham.

We don't know how fit BDD is after her setback and they might struggle to find a suitable race over fences so you could be right. I'd be happy with her going straight there for this race with or without a run. Those pre festival gallops at Leopardstown have turned into a bit of a waste of time but it would be lovely to see her pinging a few fences down the back straight there.
