Mares Chase 2021

I'm still of the view that it's (marginally) more likely that BDD goes to the hurdle rather than here. Anyone who thinks that the Riccis have more say than Willie is, well, just wrong. I've said several times that, while Willie generally just wants to win races, he was incandescent when she lost out to Honeysuckle the last time. It matters not what we think would have happened had jockeys ridden to instructions. All that matters is that Willie thinks she should and would have won and he badly wants to put that right.

If he's struggling to get her to top form and Honeysuckle is super impressive the next time, he may think again but until NRNB kicks in properly I'd much rather take 7/2 any race than 5/1 for the chase or 6/1 for the hurdle.

Is Bigfish not the bloke who was adamant Elegant Escape would win the gold cup a couple of years ago? 90% sure it’s the same fella with a different character.

That guy is still on here :highly_amused:

I assume he thinks I don't know...

Agree with most of that, all of it probably on reflection, but a question on the 'wants to put that right'. Do you think he'd feel satisfied at winning this inaugral running, there must be some pressure on him to deliver it, as it's almost expected? He must have faced plenty of defeats in his time and just gone on to win races without it being a direct rematch? Un De Sceaux and Min benefitted from changing tack to get their place in the spot light after moving away from their 'clashes' with SS and Altior?
I totally get that he's uber competitive, just never seen his as out-for-blood-revenge? I of course don't know him at all, so you'd be way more qualified.

He looks steely to me. I wouldnt cross him. Yeah .. I would movemy nag if it wasnt be best placed or given a good ride .. Kemboy went for it ffaaarrrrrr to early.

As with all Willie does, it's a balancing act. He took the Honeysuckle defeat personally. Before Salsaretta's first run this season it was clear that he thought that she would probably be good enough to win the chase. Even on Sunday she was favoured to beat Shattered Love on what seemed bad terms so it has to be assumed that she shows a fair amount at home. As it was, she was never in the race and you'd think that something will show up. I know that you think (and said) that she was a poor price and bad favourite at 6/1 but I'd contend that it simply displayed the confidence that they had in her and the lack of opposition at that time. In any case, Ballyadam at 6/1 was clearly a worse favourite.:eagerness:

As we now stand, if they can't get Salsaretta to Cheltenham, the stable still has Colreevy (and several others). We don't yet know the penalty structure for this race so it's pure speculation that she will have to give weight to everything else. As I said before, as things have turned out I'm less confident now about which race BDD will go for. I'm reasonably confident that she will get an entry for both mares races and maybe even the Stayers. There will be no further clues until she gets an entry for a prep race so 7/2 any race is absolutely the bet at this stage.

Maybe you should try posting in the appropriate threads.

Isn't the main point this season with BDD, that she is injured?

The trainers focus would be on injury recovery atm, rather than which race she may run in at which meeting.

You can be focussed on something and still at least allow yourself to muse at where you'd send a horse...especailly if your job involved training that horse :eagerness:

I'm focussed on posting nonsense on this forum, but still allow myself to peruse the ante post markets and put some bets on :triumphant:

Hmm not sure the fact the books stuck her in 6/1 antepost favourite for this with a lot of novice mares mixed in between displays the stable confidence?

On the other hand, she went off 5-1 in a uber competitive handicap chase with plenty of stable runners, i'd say that portrays their view on her ability? A mare off 148 without her allowance vs some good horses. Closutton know a good horse so i don't doubt they expect better from her, but that price was also crazy IMO.

Like your style. :bee:

I'm perusing away like I'm scared the markets will disappear unless I look at them. :topsy_turvy:

But I'm definitely not backing anything that's injured, and cashed out of anything that has become injured after I backed it. :grey:

- and there's been one in two of those lately.

I'm sure it'll work it's way on here, and I'll post in the QMCC thread, but PTKO is being aimed there, rather than the Mares Chase.

If any current Arkle winner ever has a G2 race as their following years target it’s time to give up...

Yeah, I think similar has been said numerous times before...never really been in any doubt given the owners and trainers justified bold decisions last year too...

Must admit to be pleased to read it though, as I have no pence on her anywhere but the QMCC!

So question. And in preparation I have put on my suit of armour. Ignoring BDD for the purpose of my question... where do we think she’d end up if willie trained her. Genuine not a loaded question.

Where the owners told him they wanted to run.

There has to be an Irish dont show related treble on three Mares races.I think there are only 3 GB trained horses in top 20ish in the betting for this. And one of them is La Bague Au Roi.
