Horses for Cheltenham 2020

He was certainly very impressive; wonder if Hendo is tempted by that Bumper at the Scottish Grand National that he loves aiming a good horse at

Shishkin for the Supreme

I’ve already got him for the Ballymore after he won one of Henderson’s traditional bumper targets at Kempton. Breeding for me points towards a further trip. I’d be surprised if he runs again this season.

City Island
City Island looked very good in winning the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle on Wednesday. Always travelling well for Mark Walsh, he was squeezed out of it a bit on the run to the third last, and he had to fight for his position between Sams Profile and Valdieu on the run to the second last, but he was travelling well enough to win that battle and secure a good position for himself at the second last flight. He turned for home alongside the talented Champ, the pair of them had it between them from that point, but he stayed on more strongly to the line, the pair of them coming nicely clear of Bright Forecast.

Martin Brassil’s horse came into the race with bags of potential, he had passed the post first in his three hurdle races before Wednesday, but he had never contested a graded race, so he had plenty to prove. The form of his races had worked out well, however, and he proved that he was a Grade 1 horse with Wednesday’s performance, and the form is rock solid, with Challow Hurdle winner Champ in second, and Bright Forecast, Brewin’upastorm, Sams Profile and Galvin filling the next three places. It is strong form.

Connections were talking about keeping City Island to hurdles in the medium term and perhaps stepping him up in trip. As such, out of a half-sister to Morley Street and Granville Again, he could be a Stayers’ Hurdle horse for next season. More immediately, he will surely line up in either the two-and-a-half-mile Grade 1 novices’ hurdle at Punchestown or the three-mile Grade 1 novices’ hurdle at Punchestown, and he would be of interest in either.

Delta Work
It appears that the quality of the performance that Delta Work put up in finishing third in the RSA Chase has been under-rated. True, he only finished third behind Topofthegame and Santini, but he was only beaten a total of just over two lengths, and he didn’t have a lot of luck through the race. His jumping was a little sticky on occasion, but he still travelled well down the hill, and he looked a likely winner when he moved to the front at the third last fence. He got in tight to the second last, however, which lost him valuable ground and momentum at a crucial stage of the race, and he was squeezed out of it as Topofthegame and Santini came together in front of him. He stayed on strongly on the run-in, however, closing slightly on the two leaders all the way to the winning line.

The first two home are both obviously highly talented staying novice chasers, but so is Delta Work. There may not be as much between the three of them as ante post markets on future races seem to indicate. If Gordon Elliott’s horse had had a smoother run through the RSA Chase, he would have finished closer. Also, he is only six, he is a year younger than his two rivals here.

The Gigginstown House horse won the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival last year, and he was only just beaten by Next Destination in the Grade 1 three-mile novices’ hurdle at Punchestown. He had won his three chases before Cheltenham this year, two of them Grade 1 races, and it is probable that we still haven’t got to the bottom of his ability over fences. He will be of interest if he runs at one of the other spring festivals this year, probably in the Growise Chase at Punchestown, and he remains a live Gold Cup contender for next year.

Interesting reading Mayo , I've already got involved with Santini and T.O.T.G for the 2020 g.cup.,
Be mad not to have a bit on Delta work too , especially at the current price difference.

Without wishing the Spring/Summer away the staying chase division next year is something to look forward to, the above three novices all look exceptional and when you throw a fit and well prepared Presenting Percy, Kemboy and the 1-2 from this year the Gold Cup has the potential to be a vintage renewal....

It may be my pocket talking (and I apologise in advance to those who love him) but I see Santini as a horse who wasn't quick enough to win a Bartlett or an RSA. Well on the way to inheriting the elderly nautical tortoise award. Topofthegame and Delta Work totally different gravy.

How is Delta Work different gravy Archie when he was behind Santini at Cheltenham. Different types of horses but not different gravy

Time may well prove you right but Santini had the prep from hell this season and with luck/better planning he is likely to in a better spot come March 20.
All 3 from the RSA could go very close in the Gold Cup for me...

Still finished behind Santini in the RSA and he had a shocker of a prep in the process.

All three are potentially top class horses and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they were battling it out up the hill in next season's Gold Cup

Can anyone not already see O’Leary switching Delta Work to the Ryanair the week before

Not unless one of the other Gigginstown staying novice chasers looks sensational... Delta Work was their best 3 mile novice chaser, and I can't see any way they'd pop him in the Ryanair unless he shows next season he doesn't stay... which looks incredibly unlikely.

Just a thought, Champagne Classic is still a novice as it stands

I don't know if any body will agree but does any body think that Carefully Selected could end up in the Stayers, Willie seems to have plenty for RSA i.e. Next Destination and Allaho. So can anyone request a price for him. Thanks.
