Going Chasing / Staying Hurdling.

Gaelic Warrior can still be backed at 22/1 with the boost on Laddies for the BANC, Hills win tomorrow & BANC is only 25/1 in comparison, I’ve just had my 5th or 6th dip into the market!

I think he'll win tomorrow but can't have him at Cheltenham because of his RH tendancy

I'll need to watch the race again but I don't remember him being inconvenienced in the Ballymore by jumping right? If we were talking about Champ Kiely then fair enough, but I'll have to take a second look.

Also the fact that Ricci owns him, after being narrowly beaten in '22 and then only beaten by a potential superstar, I think he will want to be back and try grab that win third time lucky.

Ricci loves Cheltenham runners and the fact that he wanted Vauban to run in the Triumph instead of waiting for a Novice campaign on the advice of Willie tells us that also. I'd have it strongly odds on he would go to the Fez IF good enough and fit.

And after all that Lobos , I've just seen that you said you couldn't have him because of his RH tendency, not that you don't think he will turn up:biggrin-new::sleeping:

Patrick also said he was hanging RH all the way up the straight in the Ballymore (maybe not clear from watching race )so whilst he did really well to finish where he did it's clearly not ideal. He kept on emphasising that he'd be better going the other way round and perhaps going up in trip.

Not saying you're wrong, Lobos, but were those comments not in relation to Champ Kiely? He may have said it about both, but Patrick definitely commented that CK was hanging right and made the comment that you couldn't see it from the side on camera footage.

Definitely said it about GW after the race as well when interviewed. It stuck in my head the amount of times he mentioned that he'd be better going the other way round.

I still think the owner may get his way (as he should) with con hill going chasing. If that happens I could see facile going turners and Impaire and marine nationale going to the churdle.

if con hill stays hurdling facile v marine in arkle and Impaire turners possibly

all guesswork at this stage really though :biggrin-new:

It’s not a case of whether Con’ Hill go’s chasing or remains hurdling - I sincerely believe people aren’t realising/thinking of the bigger picture here.

Its simply if Henderson believes Con’ Hill will win a Gold Cup. It’s nothing less, nor nothing more than that.

He go’s chasing if Henderson believes, or knows already. And he might.

Otherwise, he stays hurdling to do what no other horse has ever done before.

Has any horse ever won the Champion Hurdle and Champion Chase??

Paul's final comment yesterday re GW.....

“He settled like a dream and that was the key early on.
“Going that way is a huge help because you make him keen by trying to keep him straight.”

That last line refers to the problem any jockey has when riding him on a left handed course.

'Trying to keep him straight ' the whole way round a LH track just takes that much more out of the horse which is the difference between winning and losing.

That's why I'm so reluctant to back him again at the festival. Yes, he's ran two very good races there but he really should have won the first of them with EVERYTHING in his favour and a handicap 'certainty' and may well have got closer to or even beaten IEP if he didn't have this dislike of racing LH.

If Cheltenham was a RH track he'd be a good thing in whatever race he went for...........but it's not.

Lobos I wasn’t saying he doesn’t go right, he does. I was saying the specific comments you were relaying; the edging right, the camera angle etc. were made about Champ Kiely.

I know. I just felt , for the benefit of anyone wanting to back him for a 3rd time at the festival, I should highlight those comments from PT as once again it emphasizes Gaelic Warriors dislike of going LH and the problems both he and Patrick have when he runs that way and the disadvantage the horse has trying to go that way round.

I'll not say another word on the matter I promise :glee:

That's why I think a novice chase campaign beckons, or will at least be tried. Fences might straiten him up a bit. Mind you, he wasn't bad at Cheltenham. No disgrace finishing second to that aeroplane.

Willie mentioning Gaelic could stay hurdling - pretty weak division! Still 8s available

Patrick said after Gaelic Warrior's 2nd in the Ballymore he needs 3m and a fence
Rich Ricci after win yesterday said he's a chasing sort and is progressing with the trip
Willie mentioned Stayers Hurdle afte rhis win yesterday
He interesting which way they go, personally I think he'll go over fences but we'll find out in the Autumn I guess

Wonder if Monkfish could stay over hurdles instead then! Agree, until yesterday I was under impression Gaelic would go chasing

The main thing that worries me now thinking about it is his age. Six next year means that he could do a stayers hurdle campaign and still have time to then divert to fences (BANC) at 7, gold cup (if good enough) at 8. Hopefully not and straight to BANC at 6, or at least start over fences and see how he does, noting that the ly could divert back to hurdles if needed…

Stayers looks more likely. Willie will get his way.
