A smooth Trot around is exactly what we got. Settled and jumped for a change. Beautiful.
Yes, it was just what backers would have wanted to see. Obv he has other options but I’m with you and think the County will be his race.

He doesn’t fit the Coral trends v well and the way Dan speaks about him as a horse for the future, I just can’t see him throwing him into that race.

I also reckon Harry will want to keep the ride which negates the Pipe. If they were thinking Pipe then it would have seemed sensible to put Tristan on him today.

The market has Let It Rain shorter in the betting but she’ll need another run after the William Hill race at Newbury (assuming that’s her next outing). I’m hoping they’ve decided to replace Fortune De Mer with LC and will not bother rushing that 5th run into LIR.

He fits the age winner of the County nicely and I think they’ll try and win a 2mile handicap pot with him before maybe stepping him up in trip for the graded race at Aintree - Dan alluded to this in one of the stable tours. He also talked about taking in the Henry V111 next year, en route to the Arkle, this suggests to me they don’t think of him as the staying type at the moment (well, they weren’t when it was written a couple of months ago).

Anyway, just gathering my thoughts more than anything. Let’s hope we’re both celebrating in March!

Great

Great analysis jr. let’s hope we are indeed! I think let it rain will win the William hill then skip Cheltenham altogether, though just a gut feel.

…..things tend to get a bit busy over a weekend but a reminder that Tuesday 20th Jan looks a big day as far as entries are concerned so it might be worth setting a little time to do some housekeeping & look at your cash-out position.

I think we get the Novice race entries plus Triumph;

Supreme
Turners
Bartlett
Arkle
BANC
Triumph

Still waiting for some kind person to get Kala Conti priced up for the BANC..........😉

Completely on its own, but take a look on Sean Bowen's ride finishing on Little Ledgend, Taunton 4.20. His horsemanship gets the beaten horse in tune to keep rallying, over the last 2 hurdles, to take minor honours, in this case 2nd, for connections.

Many jockeys would have given up at this point. One of many examples. One of the best I've seen on a horse.

Should be for stupid question thread...

Can anyone tell me what weight Minealla Emperor is running at today?

Racing post says 11-0
Thats 5lbs less than everything else, possibly as horse is a maiden?
Jockey is claiming 7lb so does that bring it 10-7 or has the 7lb taking into the 11-0 already.
It then states
"Minealla Emperor possible overweight 2lbs"

So does that bring the horse to 10-9?

A novice hurdle for five years old and upwards that are EBF eligible and have not won a Grade 1, Grade 2 or Grade 3 weight-for-age hurdle race and have not run under Rules of Racing as a two or three yr old and have not won a steeplechase
Weights
- 11st. Mares allowed 7lbs.
Penalties - Penalties (Academy Hurdles and 3-y-o Junior N.H. Hurdles excluded) - Winner of a hurdle race 5lb extra Of two hurdle races 10lb extra

does this help ?

Looks like he carries 11 stone less the jockeys allowance plus any overweight when he gets weighed.
all the others must have won a hurdle race, as per the race conditions

….P Mullins

He said: "I'd say we'll have a big team in the main race (Thyestes Chase). High Class Hero is in there, I'm not sure but it looks like it could be very heavy ground and I'd have a little query about him on really heavy ground. The one that stands out to me is Captain Cody. I'd be hoping that maybe Paul (Townend) doesn't choose him - I'd put my hand up for him if that's the case!

"We'll have to wait and see but I'm really looking forward to riding in the bumper on a horse called Our Trigger who's a full-brother to Gaelic Warrior. He's only a four-year-old but he'd take the eye out of your head now and I'm a big fan of him, so I'm looking forward to getting my leg over him."

Frank Hickey confirming what we probably already knew on the PP Podcast, that they push out horses further to oppose people cashing their bets out. Says he disagrees with cash out being available for ante post bets.

Yeah that was really interesting and shows that there is definitely value backing those who lose. They’re deliberately overpricing them.

However, my view is that AP prices are so short theses days because of cash out. Prices condensed around 6-7 years ago when cash out caught on. If we removed that, the corollary should be increased prices. But we’d never get that.

Frank’s example re French horses for the Triumph is a good one. I get that you could back 5 and cash out the underwhelming ones whereby you’re creating a free shot. And that’s why they price the majority at 12/1 - 16/1 before their UK/IRE debut. However, would he offer 25/1+ without cash out?
