This is bound to be a pub quiz question at some point

This horse raced against

- Lulamba over a fence
- Sir Gino in a G1 over hurdles
- and then ran in a flat race against Con Hill

... all within the same season. Name the horse?

February 24th.

The weights for each handicap will be published on February 24, with any horse to win a race from February 22 onwards to carry a 5lb penalty (although such a penalty cannot increase a horse's weight above 12st).

Horses must have run at least four times over fences to qualify for a non-novice handicap chase (three times for novice races) and five times over hurdles to qualify for non-novice handicap hurdles (three times for the juvenile contest).

February 24 entries will be made for the Weatherbys Champion Bumper and the Hunters’ Chase.

Anyone gonna throw a couple of quid at Con Hill for the Melbourne Cup after Mr Buckley's interview yesterday? 25/1 is tempting

Can anyone advise on how the weights are announced tomorrow?

All races at once?
At what time?
Do BHA log ins get advance viewing?

Trying to plan my day!

Not entirely what the process is these days but always used to be the media packs are circulated in the morning with everyone having an embargo on sharing anything before 11am or midday, can't remember which.
My guess is the usual suspects will be out with their highlighters as soon as they're allowed....

…..presume you’ll see some odds getting smashed before the weights are officially released, some will get on and firms will know.

Some books will shorten without any money down tomorrow, those stable sponsorships aren't just an investment so their name is painted on the side of a horsebox..

i thought they were released to everyone at one time last year to prevent "insider trading" because i'm sure some folk knew the day before in the past

That might be the case now, I'm going back about 15 years to when the packs were circulated to stables/industry, maybe someone twigged the advantage some had could be used to their advantage....

yeah i think there was a bit of an outcry a couple of years ago , when the prices got smashed up a day before the public got sight of them and last year they were all released at the same time to everyone

I'd say this has to be the worst time to start.
If you are wanting one of this years BANC horses for the 2027 Gold Cup the time to get on is before the BANC, the problem is few bookies price this up and in recent years their offerings have been pretty dismal, but if your selection wins the BANC their price will be shorter still after the race.
It's not easy and you need a hell of alot of luck to do OK, but taking a flyer might be the better option....

I don't follow flat racing closely and I'm sure they've got a set process to follow, but where the hell do you start with handicapping a horse like C Hill for a Melbourne Cup ?

I’d have no idea , maybe a couple more £40k races at Southwell
