Fox Hunters Chase 2018

Not to be.
MORNING ASSEMBLY unseats at fence one at Tinahely and looses his chance to book a last minute ticket to the Foxhunters.

(I've not backed him) but Wildcard entry still a possibility?

I don't know tbh. I think however on reflection the wild card probably would be for one that diddnt get in at the ratings. But did qualify.

Would be much fairer

Does anyone know who the wildcard was last year ?
Clinging onto hope that Staker Wallace might receive it
Although the fact he has not been seen does not bode well

In a recent Q&A session with the PPORA, Head Handicapper Phil Smith repeats that he does not consider point-to-point form when assessing ratings for the Festival's 'Amateur Gold Cup', although he does review pointing form and can offer one, and only one, wild card entry to a horse who has been making tsunamis on the pointing circuit.

The race's rich history would be diminished if rising stars like Cappa Bleu had no hope of getting in, although Cheltenham's current popularity invariably results in disappointed owners and trainers who believe their horses could have made an impact but for elimination. In some cases they have a point.

Barel Of Laughs, who was third in last year's race at 100/1, beaten half a length, was rated 117, and had just two horses below him on the list – he proved the run no fluke when landing the £25,000 Timico Gold Cup at Cheltenham in May.

Gilgamboa is the best of the Irish hunter chasers. He defeated Foxrock by nearly 10L easily. Foxrock went 6s for the Fox hunters. BA only beaten 1L ridden by a 7lb claimer. He should be 2/1 on the day I reckon.

When I put him up at 10s and then Napped him as my bet for the festival, I also predicted he’d go off about 5/2 favourite. I expect 2/1 will be about right now morning assembly is not running.

Wonderful Charm is the only danger in my opinion.

Unioniste aiming to get qualified shortly. Another interesting runner and another good bullet for the PN to win the race at 5/1 backers.

9th in the Kim Muir last year is very good form in the context of this race.

caid du berlais backed today for this race also, has it won another point to point ?

Happy with that.

To have Wonderful Charm, Virak, Unioniste and Pacha du Polder running for you at 5/1 is very very good.

Is Caid du Berlais eligable? I didn't think he was but can see he has been running and winning in points since January including today? Out of all of the Nicholls runners he was one of the ones I would have liked most, 2nd in the Fred Winter, 3rd in the Martin Pipe, won the Paddy Power Gold Cup, 8th in the Pertemps last season

Is he still with PN jono? Thought I’d heard he had moved? Only heard it from a mate so he may well have been wrong!

It's blue enough on oddschecker to be eligible, I think it is.
Any idea whos' been riding it ?

Nothing lost (NRNB) but that sounds like a complete shambles. If the inexperienced jock gets unseated in a point probably a fair chance that Cheltenham would have been too much for him. I don't remember the horse as a poor jumper.

No you guys are right - recently moved to Mrs Loxton. (just saw the replies after posting!) I was going on an interview by Nicholls at the end of January where he was mentioned in his hunter team

Honestly think the 5/1 on him winning this race is one of my favourite bets of the week. Could end up having 4 of the first 5 in the betting!

Mr Maxwell will be riding Unioniste which is a considerable disadvantage when he's up against Codd, O'Connor etc but can't knock the price.

Can’t argue with that FM! Don’t fancy him all that much to be honest, but 33’s surely too big so had a small ew interest.
