Forum Meet Up - Festival Week!

You need hospitality badges BC.
Was a time you could wander freely but so many of the boxes became overloaded the fire officer said it needed to be better controlled so security now man the stairs/lifts.

O.k , I have club ticket for wednesday , but no hospitality unfortunately.

Great opening post MIJ and I echo your thoughts entirely.

One thing that crossed my mind was that in addition to any formal meet up we could all agree to wear some emblem that would identify us as a FJ member so we could easily just bump into each other at the bar or anywhere else in and around Cheltenham. I realise there’s a lot of people but reckon there would be some random meet ups which would be hilarious to hear about afterwards

I’m going Tuesday in the best mates and Thursday in the Tatts. I’m always up for a social drink but I tend to be pissed and frantically trying to work out which horses I’ve backed and what bets are still live from 3pm so not the best of company. I’ll probably be wearing a daft fancy dress crown again in the hope that after 16 years of trying I finally land a massive multiple bet so if one does land I’ll be sharing the love and drinks!! Giving everyone a bit of notice I’d be up for attending the Dublin Racing Festival next year if anyone is up for it. Probably not a good time to organise now but will bring it up post festival.

Thanks mate & to everyone else who’s responded on this! 110% agree. Why don’t we get pin badges/ties/pocket squares made? That way anyone can identify another forum member easily from the crowd without detracting from what we’d usually do?! Obv. with the moderators permission could get something sorted maybe?

Travelling over from Essex to Dublin festival this weekend then at every day for the festival this weekend. Would be great to get a good bunch of fat jockey participants together (not that I have contributed loads this year!)

Going all 4 days with some friends. 6th year in a row for us. Likely be in the Cottage Rake Bar and terraces out front each day, but Best Mate Friday (the hassle in Club on the Fri is just not worth it). Will be on the Guinness too. Anyone hang out in that part of the stand?

I’m a bit of what you guys refer to as a lurker, hi all. I’ve sat quietly for a while finding my way around, and have read some great stuff from you guys, so thanks.

Attending the festival for the first time this year (we have tatts tickets), what bars/areas do you guys recommend?

We attended DRF last year, we were really impressed with Leopardstown. Looking forward to checking out Chelts and hearing that roar on day one!

Now then gents (and ladies!)...

Having been a member of this forum for the past 2 years (wish I’d found it way sooner, was on the Exchange previously) & having attended Cheltenham most years since 2004, it’s difficult to put into words just how much the analysis/views/opinions/characters on this site mean. Every year without doubt it’s a breath of fresh air from daily life (we probs. all lead way different ones too!) trying to debate/pick out the next big winner. The energy we all have for it too, it’s hard to explain to the Mrs - “what are you on that horse racing thing for again?”

The knowledge people have here is second to none. Way, way better than “people in the know” or “tipsters”. I can safely say it has 110% enhanced my experience in horse racing... I even had the bollocks to contact Olly Murphy about ownership the other week! (don’t ask)

Anyway, I’d like to say thank you & if anyone fancies meeting up for a Guinness at the Festival on Gold Cup day I’ll be there & I’ll get you a pint...

Sorry if this has been mentioned before/I haven’t seen?

On another note too - I reckon we should contact that farmer who owns the field opposite the track & get “FAT JOCKEY” in letters rather than Paddy or get a blimp?!

Superb forum.

Spend most of my evenings on this and I get the exact same response from the mrs! They just don’t understand!

I’ll be there Tues-Thurs and always have a couple in the Arkle Bar when first arriving on the course. Think we need a FJ tell / badge of honour :highly_amused:

Welcome! Get yourself into the Guinness Village for a pint at some stage, atmosphere in there is unreal & you can get in with Tatts tickets... they often have a band playing and large screen too, watching one of the races in there when there's been a gamble on something is unreal

Thanks MadeinJapan. Had planned on visiting the Guinness village so your post cements that idea! Roll on March.

We alternate each year, this year its Tuesday.
I'm always driving and will get home exhuasted.
Routine perade ring, dash to winning post on our old legs, see the winner up the chute, and then back to the perade ring and so on.
Wife will grab refreshments every so often.

Wednesday put Racing TV on and then catnap throughout the day, Wednesday hopefully my first bet in action then wait until Friday for my next bet.
GLA.

I'd be well up for a FJF meet up at some meeting, just not Cheltenham. Far too much going on. DRF next year could be a good shout

I'll be there tues/fri so guiness bar sounds a good idea, up for that drf meet too...

I’m usually pitched up in the Guinness village. Love the band and the atmosphere in there which is great. One of my main memories in there though was Annie power falling at the last. Never heard such a cumulative loud groan in one place as trebles were in tatters all over the village!!
