Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Yesterday was one of the good days; today is one of the bad ones. He was sore last night and it turns out he has broken his leg. I was at the stables when the vet x-rayed him. He had a 50:50 (at best) chance of racing again (a year off, at least) with an operation or be put down. I asked if he could still have some sort of life even if he couldn't race and was told that he could. It had to be an immediate decision and I couldn't think of putting him down so he is now being on operated on and we should know soon how it's gone.
Apologies to anyone from Animal Rising if this decision doesn't suit your campaign rhetoric!

Christ. Deeply sorry to be reading this Paul.

Keep us informed, hoping he comes through the operation well and can have a life after racing.

So sorry to hear that BOF. The ups and downs of racing in 24 hours. I applaud you for the decision you've made. Hopefully it'll turn out for the best.

Such sad news, here's hoping all goes well and that he goes on to live the rest of his days happily

Well played and all the best BoF.

Well done re: the result BOF, that was some great race placement from Fahey. He operates well beyond his means he’s a cute hoor & is absolutely flying at the moment, so good to see.

Equally gutted re: the post race setback, that’s racing for you, more downs than ups but hopefully he’ll rehab well & come back with his old zest still intact. Wouldn’t be in the least bit interested in what any of the Animals Rights active idiots care, they are living in cloud cuckoo land.

Fingers crossed for a full recovery.

All the best BOF! Keeping everything crossed that if nothing else, he gets many happy years sunning himself and living the life or Riley.

Not the update we were expecting - sorry to read BOF.

Echoing the others here but hope the op went well & he goes on to enjoy his retirement whether that be ridden or otherwise. All the best.

Many thanks for the good wishes. I was struggling to post x-rays and video to the forum so ended up writing a blog detailing the last 48 hours http://www.cheltenhamdream.com/blog-diary/2023/8/9/a-dramatic-three-days. Fingers crossed he is on the road to recovery.

Whilst, I guess, not out of the woods just yet, it is great to not only read about the positive update, but also see the images and video of him post op, so thanks for sharing Paul :encouragement:

Great to read he has come of the initial surgery well - yes it is early days, and extended box rest can be tough on them but I have no doubt you and the rest of the team will continue to give him the best chances of recovering.

Really interesting to see the x-rays and post op video.

Look forward to seeing where Freedom to Dream heads next - enjoy the rest of your time in IRE.

It’s great to get this type of insight, thanks for the time you give the FJs. Hopefully all goes to plan for your team.

An update on my current holdings:

Willie Mullins
Since Kemboy retired to Lancashire, I'm just left with Captain Kangaroo who has had a nice long break. He should be back in now and will be aimed at long distance handicap chases.

Donald McCain
Esme Shelby now retired.

Sam Allwood
Von Melas was retired sound to a good home.
Coningbeg came home to me and, after recovering from her injury, we managed to get her in foal to Dartmouth. Next February promises to be exciting.
We joined a club that is running Ballynaveen Boy through the summer. He's lowly rated and been slow to learn his trade but we're persevering for the time being.

The latest venture is a small syndicate for 2 horses from the PtP arena.
Rehill Relic won his only point very nicely

Orbys River failed to complete in 2 races but came recommended from Harley Dunne as good value.

This link should take you to Sam's website.

I think that there are still a couple of shares available and Sam is prepared to consider half shares if anyone is interested. Both horses are back in training having summered well and, as they're just at the cantering stage, should be ready to go in 6 to 8 weeks.

Enjoyed the Blog, few chuckles in there. Good luck BOF

Good luck tomorrow brother!

3 lines in and laughed out loud, which is impressive.

Excellent update - I'm sure the full version would have been equally enjoyable!

Good luck later today - hope he comes back safe & happy.

Also great news re Surprise Package - fingers crossed the recovery continues to go to plan.
