Equine Flu Outbreak

The bet on festival not going ahead is effectively holiday insurance - I’m sorry I didn’t make it.

Still think we are in for a random couple of weeks at least. BHA been shooting their foot off one toe at a time so even if initial decision here right no idea what they might do.

No problem, no offence taken. I'd do the same thing again if I had to. I'm not sure you could class the bet as "immoral" though? But everyone has their own opinions.

Let the vets do their job in conjuncture with industry support and hopefully the best sport in the world can go revert to normal .
AND THE BEST NH FESTIVAL can go ahead as planned

I don’t recall that being an option ziggy, but because of its location Sandown avoided many of the restrictions imposed on other areas and many of the big races were added to the Whitbread weekend with unofficial Gold Cup, Champion hurdle etc being staged there.
That meeting actually paved the way for the ‘finale’meeting as it’s now known....

I am struggling to fully remember, but I am positive it was considered, but foot and mouth moved on into April. Can see how it could be an option, although it would mess up other festivals. Just spoke to a mate and he confirms it was considered. Heaven knows.
 
I can’t be the only one that keeps on going on twitter etc, and sees new updates only to realise it’s just old story’s reposted? I have been quite negative regarding the whole situation I must admit. But that is mainly as I was listening to a lot of rumours as probable BS. I now feel more confident that the greatest sporting week of the year will go ahead as planned! Fingers firmly crossed.

Cheltenham always have a contingency plan to run the Festival at a later date; it depends on how many days are as to whether there is one , two or three days and the the April meeting is typically the date.
In 2001 the Festival was finally called off on April Ist having being rescheduled for the April meeting. All the way back in 1978 Midnight Court's Gold Cup was run at the April meeting after the final day had been snowed off in March
 
Is there a price anywhere for racing to be back on by next weekend ?

Or next Wednesday as a separate price?
 
....I get the impression that after initially lauding the approach adopted by the BHA, the industry is now starting to turn against them. Pressure is increasing on them to give Racing a green light.

I suspect racing will return a week today.

How is it an overreaction?

Surely the action they have taken is the right one. If the BHA did nothing and infected horses were spreading the virus at the racecourse, they'd be slammed by everyone. Imagine Henderson's stable getting it a week before Cheltenham.

Stop racing, assess which stables have been affected, lock down those stables, start racng again.

Seems like a sensible plan to me.
 
Cheltenham 12th March 1/4 is buying money. Wheelbarrow job.
 
I tend to agree with NTD as well, he is pretty much spot on.

Like all things we have people who are glass half empty, glass half full and I am in the camp of the latter. This surely can be sorted out in the next few days if all yards are doing as they are supposed to be (i.e. testing horses, carrying out more jabs if needed etc.)

I also think next Saturday is when racing will resume.

racing tv just announced as breaking news, that had been reported on sky, that it's the same flu strand that stopped australia for months.
The fucking vet on itv4 this morning said that anyway, and she also said that , that particluar strain is included in the routine vaccinations.
