Cliff Horses - First & Current

Seemingly every group L15 me and my mates have - theirs always one who selects Mister Coffey if he's running and it makes me want to throw my phone out of the f*cking window lol - and I cant say anything because the one time i moan and it doesn't go in the bet - you know what would happen!

…..I think it was 1991 and I was going to Dublin with my mates for Irish Derby. Just happens I was working in Chester the day before we went and it was Chester Races that Fri night so in my lunchtime I strolled over to nearby stables and coincidentally a Paul Cole horse box was unloading.

I asked the two lads how Generous was and told them I was going over. They said he was A1 but they had another runner at the Curragh called Ruby Tiger that they really fancied. Obviously I told all my mates and then everybody in the hotel as well as in a boozer in Howth where we went to watch it.

Ruby Tiger sluiced in, cleared the little Howth bookie out (had it with Tamarpour who won the big Newcastle race that day). Ruby was a globetrotter, never went unbacked and did me a few good turns. Happy memories.

Bloody Tidal Bay

Got me off to a flyer on my first trip to the festival back in 07. Felt obliged to back him for the rest of his career.

Would have made for comical viewing if he could've raced Ballyburn. One with their head in dirt the other with his head in the clouds.

Did you back him at Sandown in the 365 gold cup? Was one of my fav moments at the races, great day.
I used to back him a fair bit too.

The Lexus win was the best.
He seemed to crawl under the legs of the other 2 that day to get up.

Sadly didn't, I was on holiday. I did manage to back him in the cleeve, although gave most of that back betting him in the stayers and at Aintree. Backed him at Leopardstown on both occasions he ran. Gutsy horse.

Hillcrest more recently. Saw him in the flesh on New Year’s Day at Cheltenham a few years back (he’s a giant) and was very keen on him for the Albert Bartlett after he looked a world beater at Haydock a month later. He picked up an injury in the Bartlett and hasn’t been the same since but can’t let him go off without a small interest.

First - Cocoethes, always thought he'd get Nashwan oneday.

Most recent - Paisley Park, won a very tidy sum from him the season he won the stayers, think I gave it all back plus a bit more afterwards.

There must be someone on here who backed gaelic warrior for all or most of the below

The boodles
The bartlett
The ballymore
the supreme
The stayers
The banc
The turners

Then gave up and watched him win the arkle by half the straight

First: Sir Des Champ, he was my first cliff horse when I started out. There was just something about him, maybe it was the name, but backed him pretty much every time he ran.

Current: Lulamba. I was at ascot when he first race and went over to see what all the hype was. As soon as I saw him in the parade ring I said “… he’s going to be some chaser”. I didn’t jump on the hype train last year as he was too short and thought he would do very well to beat East India Dock given their difference in experience. I thought he ran a extremely good race in the triumph but I was coming from “he’s very young and he’ll do well to finish so close” compared to someone who backed him and feeling as though he should have won that race that day.
I backed Lulmaba after Kopek won the supreme, I was on kopek that day - had backed him before the DRF. So was glad he won but was left a tad disappointed with his performance - the ran fell into his lap but he finished a bit meh for me. So quickly went on and backed Lulamba for the arkle

I’ve since backed Lulamba for the king George and ‘27 Gold Cup. A hedge just in case he loses in the arkle due to lack of pace, but also I feel they’ll step him up anyway and follow Jango Baie’s route, and believe he’s a proper quality horse that will win big

So… yeah. He’s quickly becoming my cliff horse 🫣

Delta work for me. Was all over him for the browns and then the gold cup. Lost faith, and lumped on tiger roll in the XC chase, only for O’Leary and co to ruin it for the legend that is tiger roll (and my bank 😂😂)

Also twist magic, when nicholls could train. Loved that beauty, still convinced he’d have smashed my way de solzen in the arkle, had he stood up.

I had brighterdaysahead for nice 4 figure sums the last two festivals and not a penny on this year. Fair to say if she bolts up she will be more cliff than Richard, thorburn and lazarenko combined

Campeador for me
Like so many others I kept thinking he was getting plotted for handicaps

I am in danger of Heldam becoming my new one
Note to self - He is no good

Seeing as it’s a thread about cliff horses.. this is my time to shine. ..

GWARN THE GAELIC GOOD THING

No idea how to find it but I 1000000% referred to him as a future Gold Cup winner on this forum before he’d ever jumped a fence. @Kevloaf how do we upgrade my tag from ‘patron’ to ‘clairvoyant’?
