Whilst we are all twiddling our thumbs until the weights come out. Just a bit of fun. What was the first cliff horse you can remember backing no matter what and which current or recent horse have you given the same treatment.

First i can remember backing to the end was Somersby. I don't know why but i was just drawn to him. He only won a handful of times but i suppose that is the point. I did the same with a flat horse around the same time, Maarek but he was guaranteed to run a blinder in the mud.

Recent horse - Lil Rockerfeller. He was a brilliantly consistent horse. A few pay days along the way but almost guaranteed to get your each way money back every time.

One i remember with a bit of fondness was a horse called Battle Group. I think i backed him every time he ran after he placed behind Hunt Ball in the old Novice handicap.

It paid off when a couple of years later he won on the Thursday and Saturday of the Grand National meeting. Went downhill shortly afterwards when he started to refuse to race. He was a nutter, but i loved watching him race.

More recently I'd say it was James Du Berlais - I'm a sucker for a weak finisher!

Used to try and get Kauto Star beat far too regularly.
Had one great day with Denman,
Then finally backed Kauto to win (I think for the first time except for when he fell in the Champion chase) on his fifth King George.
Lots of money lost trying to get him beat in between those 2 bets.

Kauto was a horse i never backed once, backed exotic dancer so many times against him and sure he closed the gap but never could beat him.

Edwulf, it proved relatively profitable for a season or two, at which point I should have bailed

👍 Yep Exotic was one I used to try and get him beat with.
Used to fall for the travelly types far too often.

Same here with the travelly types, still watch harchibald cruise alongside hardy eustace now and think he's gonna go by this time !

Way too many 😂😂.

Cash Back probably the one that comes to mind. Must have backed him in every race he ran from Put The Kettle On's Arkle until he retired

Don’t forget Sizing Pottsie @luisgarciaisgod

My first cliff crush was probably Hidden Cyclone. Still haven’t gotten over the Dynaste beat.

Currently belovedly blindsided by Gaelic Warrior. Gary 🥰

Think the only time I ever had a big bet on Kauto was when AP rode him in the KG.......

Hewick is probably my current one....

Hewick is probably my current one....
The water in Shark’s bait pool is just right Lobos, come on in 🦈

He’s gotten a great tune out of Hewick, certainly got his moneys worth, I always felt he underestimated Hidden Cyclone’s ability in his early days.

Although I’d been into racing for a good while, this horse was one I kept faith with blindly.

Grand Crus for Pipe, thought he was going to be the one to topple Big Bucks in his hat trick bid! Being younger etc but as it turned out was a bit silly. Followed him all the way off the cliff in his chasing days as well.
