Chelters 2016 Antepost bets

A few recent multis that I've placed:
1pt Douvan (Arkle), Faugheen (CH) and Shaneshill (JLT)
0.5 pt Rajdhani Express (Topham), Douvan (Arkle), Faugheen (CH)
0.7pt Rajdhani Express (Topham), Douvan (Arkle), Faugheen (CH) England (6nations)
1pt Cyrus Darius (Arkle), Faugheen (CH), Annie Power (Mares), Don Poli (GC)

Taken the 8/1 about Vautour for QMCC,

Also patent with VVM in Ryanair and Don Cossack in the Gold Cup.

Strange how they've pushed out Vautour to 8/1 and shortened UDS to 5/4 following a 3 lnth win over a 148 rated Smashing. They are obviously taking the view that having run over the 2m distance UDS is clearly on target for the Champ chase also given the absence of Vautour, I think they're reading it wrong because Mullins just didn't appear to believe that Vautour has anything left to prove, and they haven't taken note of the fact that only the 2m options were considered.
I can't say I'm disappointed though, this means I can load up at 8/1, and I've now added to my position, I've also added to my Douvan/Vautour double, never be afraid of good value.
I also have VVM pencilled in for the Ryanair OV, and I've placed bets to reflect that thinking, I did have it in mind as well that UDS could go for the Ryanair, I think I mentioned that in an earlier post, so I'll incorporate him into bets along the way in that race.

Sticking with the Ricci theme for now, I've just placed another bet
Vautour QM
VVM Ryanair
Douvan Arkle
Djakadam Gold cup
Faugheen Champ hurdle,. then extended the bet to include Annie Power in the World hurdle

This is just doubling up on earlier bets, but I've gone in a few times now for Vautour in the QM, will be a big dent in my AP book if he doesn't run in that, but if he does the 8/1 I'm currently hoovering up will look colossal, whoever he runs against.

Mr M

The only race I can ever see Annie Power running at Cheltenham is the Mares, especially as they upgraded it to G1.
No question she would go close in a World hurdle, especially the renewal this year, and she'd probably have the speed to go (not as) close in a Champion hurdle, but she wouldn't be odds on for either race and connections would take any G1 festival winner over a championship race place.
Being beaten, quite comfortably, in the 2014 World hurdle was probably a reality check for connections as the winner was hammered out of sight in his season reappearance at Newbury, perhaps she isn't quite as good as people thought, the Mares race would probably be a penalty kick for the next 2/3 years assuming she negotiates all the obstacles.....

I take your point Isti, but I don't believe the mares race will ever have the kudos of a championship event and that's what's colouring my thinking at the moment. There are obviously options for connections in next years fez but the races being mooted for the Ricci horses for next year as the most likely are offering little in the way of value, for instance AP is 6/4 for the mares, but 7/1 for the World hdle, Vautour is 3/1 for the Ryanair, 5/1 for the Gold cup and 8/1 for the QM. In my view the prices for the expected races will remain more or less the same until Christmas if nothing happens to make people look at other targets, but if that happens the prices for those other targets will be much lower than they are now, especially in the case of Vautour, if he is aimed at races around 2m the thinking will change and his price for the QM will collapse. Having said all that I will cover the other options later in the year, just in case, having taken as much of the value for the less obvious targets as I can get.

The way Vautour performed in the JLT i cannot see anyway that he will drop back in trip, Especially to take on a dangerous horse like un de sceax? Personally think Vautour will skip the King george (due to soft ground) Coneygree will bolt up in that, then Vautour will win the gold cup at cheltenham!

Each to his own Roose but it wouldn't be the first time a horse performs exceptionally well at longer trips then drops back to win a major prize. I can't personally see why Ricci would want to run two in the Gold cup and have nothing with a live chance in the QM, plus they would be taking a chance on him actually staying when Djakadam is proven over the distance and will be an older and stronger horse at next years fez. The Ryanair doesn't qualify as a championship race so is a lesser prize and UDS being dangerous is, in my view, a matter of concern for inferior horses, I don't think he would get a race ready Vautour off the bridle, plus I think there is a strong chance UDS will be aimed at the Ryanair, because they will want to avoid Vautour, and will be aware that given a choice of those two in a race Ruby will be on Vautour. They could run in the race with a second choice jockey, which they may have to do anyway because Ricci could have a leading chance in the Ryanair with Vroum Vroum Mag, and Ruby may remain loyal to the Ricci runners given the sheer number of top class animals he has in training.
All conjecture and debate at this stage, which is all part of the fun, so please keep it coming because where a consensus forms I like to cover those options as is stops me getting caught out my my own bias.

Ricci and mullins wants a gold cup winner, Vautour looks it. I don't think Ricci would have a problem running two in the gold cup. Mullins has said for ages Vautour looks a stayer and un de sceaux is a pure 2 miler so i can only see it going one way. I dont see why they would detail Vautour from gold cup glory to step back in trip to win the QMCC especially when mullins will likely have the winner already. (I hope so anyway) Coneygree looks the smart money in the king george though!

Guessing the mullins horses routes are one of things i enjoy about the festival!

My thots which way Mullins will go with his best horses.Douvan Arkle, UDS Champion Chase, Annie Power Mares hurdle, Vroom Vroom Mag Ryanair,Djackadam and Vautour Gold Cup.Mullins says Vautour can win at any distance, the old Mullins adage to keep his best horses apart will ensure Vautour dosent take on UDS, that is a cert for me.

surely vautor goes to the king george then the gold cup but what about faugheen

Hi chaps, currently away but interesting thoughts, I think you're wrong, lol, but you obviously think I am so all grise to the mill. For me there's plenty of time to back Vautour for the Gold cup at current prices because the doubts about his stamina will remain until proved otherwise whereas the big prices for the QM will evaporate if it's hinted that this is his target so I will continue to take what I see as value. Tha point about a trainer being certain a horse will stay has many failures to recommend not putting all of your faith into their opinion, Florida Pearl and Cue Card spring immediately to mind, and the point of Mullins being covered in the QM, Ricci isn't, unless he has something else up his sleeve. Another point is that Coneygree, with another years experience will be a formidable opponent, would Ricci be happier to see his horses finish second and third having watched UDS cruise round in a weak QM, just asking these questions but consider all points before not taking at least a little of what will look like a collosal price at the fez if he turns up in the shorter race. One final point, it would be strange for a pure 2 miler to be sent to France to run over further

Is there a question mark about Faugheen's intentions ?
I would have thought a horse that has just won a Champion hurdle would be booked in already for a repeat, but then what do they do about Douvan ?
Sometimes it's a case of having too many riches, they certainly ruined Champagne Fever by running him in races where they have no representative just to suit plans of others, would they move Faugheen up to 3m and a World Hurdle bid simply to allow Douvan to take his chance in the Champion ?

Faugheen is surely too good to be a world hurdle horse  ...I had thought Douvan to arkle but conceivably they could be switched ?

Ruby will want to keep all the best horses apart but Mullins has now got to a level where that is impossible.

We are all guessing about Mullins intentions - sometimes I think he doesnt know himself and others that he is just a troll. I do think MMG is on to something about Vautour.

The UDS Ryanair Vautour Champion Chase double is a related contingency I would like to get on.

No question at all.

Faugheen runs in champion hurdle.
Douvan runs in the arkle.

Agreed - saw an interview with Ruby on RTE who suggested that it was convenient Mr. Ricci didn't have an Arkle Horse as Douvan looks perfect for it, and also fits well with avoiding the machine..

agree with rowebot about douvan but think vautor goes king george then gold cup and faugheen goes champion hurdle but mullins has any amount of class horses

Vautour in the King George is a mouthwatering prospect given its a fairly 'easy' three miles. Will probably be tied in with a run in the Xmas hurdle for Faugheen as Rich Ricci likes to see them run in the UK. Hopefully Vautour isn't one of this that gets 3miles but not quite the gold cup trip (a la cue card or conti).

Already got some bets on Douvan for the arkle, Faugheen for the champion and vautour for the gold cup! Roll on March!

Simonsig supposedly back to full health if there are any Henderson Ante post punters left ;)
