Cheltenham weather forecast

Nice sunny day here today. I imagine the ground is drying up quickly especially with the excellent drainage on the course. We are still expecting a lot of rain this weekend but I would be very surprised if day one is any worse than soft.

Thanks Nick.
It would be very useful if you could provide update over the weekend on how much wet stuff actually falls...

Trusty iPhone app says sunny and 6-7 degrees most of tomorrow.

If that’s two days on the bounce, with potential for double digit temperatures on Sunday I’m more and more confident of good to soft

I will keep you updated every day on the weather forecast I can even test how soft it is in my back garden :)

It's a shame they have stopped people going over to the course leading up to the festival nowadays due to security. When I was little (about 30 years ago), my dad used to take me over on the Sunday afternoon before and stand and watch all the horses coming in from Ireland and you could check how wet the ground was. Those were great days!

What’s the weather like now nick? I know Manchester has had snow, and the inlaws live Shropshire and they have warnings of snow also. Maybe Kev you can confirm as you live not far from the inlaws and they say snow is imminent. Hopefully not traveling Cotswolds way. I’m heading down to Shropshire Sunday befor heading to Birmingham to meet up with the lads, so will be keeping a close eye on weather

I live in Cheltenham as well about half a mile away from the course. It was raining a little overnight but the sun is out at the mo. I dont think we will get any snow here, Saturday is showing as heavier rain and its meant to be intermittent rain between tomorrow and Monday with only Sunday expected to be more than showers, but to counter that is double digits in temp on sat, sun, Monday. It wont be any worse than soft, although they are saying heavy rain on Thursday but so far in front its impossible to tell.

One day of sun and wind and the course will dry out.

To me it looks like we only have three options now... Good to Soft (Soft in places) Soft (Good to Soft in places) or at absolute worse Soft.

Going to stick my neck on the line. Tuesday, soft, Wednesday, good to soft, Thursday, soft and Friday, soft to heavy. Would be happy with that, as many of my Friday picks are wanting it nice and soft. It is nice to have a change in the Going.

Thats what I'd have in my head. And the possibility of good for Thursday.

Most of the rain is due Friday night/early Saturday morning. Hopefully another dry day tomorrow to counter that

Just come back from a walk up Cleeve hill..... it was hammering down at around 09:00 as I drove down, but remained clear, breezy with some spells where the sun came out

Ground up on the hill was pretty firm, most likely due to wind and the ground up there more likely to soak it all up.
Given the amount of snow and rain we've had, the surroundings appeared to be fairly ok... not as wet as I thought it would be at all

The course looked amazing (as usual) up there :-)

That's a great picture mate, and it's probably the best place to watch the Cross Country to have any clue what was going on.

Half an inch predicted tonight. It looks like it'll be perfect ground on day one:triumphant:

Dull and overcast here in Cheltenham today. We had a bit of rain yesterday but nothing to worry about.
If I was a betting man (which I am) I would be backing 'Good To Soft' for day 1 of the festival.

That taking into account the forecast rain Nick?
