Cheltenham Handicap Shortlists

I genuinly wasn't aware the hurdle mark could go up based on chase form, and I'd forgotten Archie had mentioned it, that's a little over sight on my part (although backed any race anyway and I still would have as I like the horse)

but you'd need to see his mark before knowing just how well in he is?

Has anyone got any examples of it happening before? A horse campaigned in open grade 1 chases coming back over hurdles on a mark?

He's a 160 rated chaser in Ireland, with a UK handicap hurdle mark of 142. :highly_amused:

HFLY, Wonder Laish wasn't on this week's ratings update so i presume they've left him alone.

Off you go up to 151!

Not exactly the same, but Royal Vacation ran off 149 last chase run, then was put in CC off 142 i think, so wasn't put up the 7 or whatever his chase mark was at time. (can't imagine his chase mark was dropped 7 off one run)

I'd imagine even if there are guidelines with regards chase marks. The fact that the UK handicapper gets to choose his rating once an entry is received leaves them with an opportunity to reflect it, as they have no recent hurdles form to go on.
He would kind of have to take into account his chase runs IMO.
As I said previously , they'll be chuffed with 148 or thereabouts.

His previous UK hurdle rating was 142. I'd be fuming if the reassessed him and moved him up close to 150. Purely taking through my pocket.

He would be going off less than 5/2 if he gets in off 142.

Yeah, would be the shortest priced handicap fav in the festival history wouldn't it? (No idea what that is currently)

Gordon Elliott managed to win the Coral Cup with Diamond King off a mark of 149. The Storyteller is a much better horse than him.

Wasn't Tombstone thrown in as well though?

Blowing Wind is the one that springs to my mind. Won the County at 15/8

Tombstone ran off 149, had just beaten Jezki off levels and had a lot of confidence because of the form of the Supreme looking bulletproof.

He wasn’t officially well in on any other mark just looked like and had the form of a horse that was a lot better than his mark

Yeah so he was "well in" but this guy is really well in- what price was he again when hyped by elliot before setback for MP?

I think as low as 6/1

The Coral Cup is also a decent race for future chasers or chasers returning to hurdles.

I’m not going to get too swept away by the hype as he may stay over fences and we don’t know what rating he’ll get, but it’s worth a shot NRNB for sure.

Glenloe entered up over 2 miles on Sunday.

Next stop the Kim Muir :triumphant:
