Cheltenham Gold Cup 2020

There have not been many King George winners that were not then aimed at the Gold Cup out of choice. Personally I think that he has every chance of staying the trip. 100/1 KG / GC double with 365... there are worse bets to chuck a tenner at.

Not that i think hell win,
But your Far better off backing him for the KG and rolling it over. 100/1 very short comparatively.

Wow....prob first time on forum disagreed with anything you have written....but v strongly disagree here

Last year Thurs atmosphere was one of best in 20 years I’ve been going....the JLT, Ryanair and Stayers were awesome races.....and the day was a real example of what festival is about

The form of the JLT looks to be along with the Bumper as the best from the 4 days

To me, the festival is the cup final of each division all out together on one card and losing races like Stayers would be terrible

All about opinions.....and on this rare occasion I disagree

:highly_amused: I was being very tongue-in-cheek but...

I do think though without the JLT, you just have a stronger Arkle and stronger RSA.
Without the Ryanair you have a stronger (or more interesting is probably the right word) QMCC and Gold Cup
Without the Mares Novice race you have those mares in the Supreme, Ballymore and AB getting weight...

Stayers is fine, just the least exciting of the 4 championship races... whack it on the first day instead of the novice handicap chase :p

Cheltenham being all about THE BEST is the point, and the more diluted it gets with extra divisions/distances the more avoiding happens.

When we go to five days you'll probably want it to go back to 4.... same as most people that remember 3 days prefer it to 4 *generally?

Good shout. If he wins KG I can't see him going lower than 5's for GC. Just take your KG winnings and have another think.

Maybe Scoob, though if he lines up for the KG (did take 20s yesterday as thought this was big), I reckon he’d be single figures. Then there’s always the chance that he could win impressively and go single figures for the GC. I don’t think 100s is a bad price on the off chance and for some change. Also tomorrow may have a big impact on both markets.

That said and just for clarity, I’m not refunding any tenners if it doesn’t pan out :)

If he wins a King George and runs in the Ryanair I will start a petition to cancel the Thursday.

Pointless day.

We've debated this before and I'm a firm believer that 5 days is inevitable and the extra day (wherever they stick it in the calendar) will see the Ryanair created as a championship race which then adds extra significance on the JLT.
The Stayers will remain a feature race and as a race that goes back over 100 years so it should.
But I think the long term aim is that all novice hurdle races lead to novice chase races of similar distance which leads to championship chase races also of similar distances.

No I don't like it but the festival is a money pit and continues to grow whatever they do with the schedule...

Yeah, agree with all of that (unfortunately)

Oooooh I think I've been very wrong to be against Lostintranslation.

He's just definitely loads better than I've ever given him credit for.

He jumps so nicely doesn't he!

Me too Kev. Just couldn't get behind him but Puppy was sitting pretty for a while there. Gonna be best of the british

lostintranslation looks bombproof now.

with the right trainer and proper jockey.

think trying to beat defi over shorter trips is and will continue to look like very good form.

Literally foot perfect all the way round bar 2 out, fantastic and will stand him in good stead in the gold cup thats for sure. Last years JLT turning out to be some race with Defi, Real steel, Vinndication etc.

Kildisart to run next weekend...

Absolutely, well done to everyone on at a decent price.

Missed the boat on the price and wasn't seeing what a lot of you were seeing... more fool me :)

GC winner in waiting

Foot perfect indeed. Jumped just as well as he did at Carlisle and to win a grade 1 like that in open company vs BDM in his own back yard was seriously impressive.

Just on the way home from Haydock; that was incredible. Absolute superb jumper of a fence

LIT is certainly not bombproof but you’d be surprised not to see him in the shake up come March. He’s got natural speed so Power can position him where he wants in the race and easily make up ground. His jumping is obviously a major asset that will also ensure he’s where he needs to be.

Shame we'll not see it tested. But Defi du Seuil would surely be a player.
But I'll stop going on about it now.
They've made their bed.

At start of the season if you'd asked Hobbs & Geraghty. You only :devilish:need to beat Lostintranslation to win the gold cup.
They wouldn't have been messing around at 2 miles.

Agree with all of that;
Crievehill 11'12 first fence to last 6m 21s
Lostintranslation 11'7 first fence to last 6m 20s

to give the race a bit of perspective. BDM and Frodon yet to back up there festival efforts
