Cheltenham 2020 - Ante post bets

I could see myself getting close to backing Min actually in the Ryanair at 12/1 at some point during the long summer days...

and I'll have Paisley Park in a multiple at 7/2 at some point probably :highly_amused:

and Kemboy at 10/1 just to put the jonah on for you archie :p

There is a point in backing horses before Sandown or Punchestown but after that, keep your powder dry until your fancy has an entry.

It's particularly a rookie error to back a horse because the trainer says it's come in from the field looking magnificent (see Jessie re: Our Duke and Sizing John). If a horse has done that well out at grass it will take that much longer to get it to racing condition.

It's actually more a comment anti to those who spent the better part of the season calculating how Nicky was going to carve up the novice hurdles between Angels Breath, Mr Fisher, Champ, Birchdale, Dicky Diver etc etc.

Nicky is unfortunate that expectations are usually unfairly high. The same can be said of Mullins, Elliott and, this season, Nicholls.

All I'm saying is that this time last year, people were saying that Santini was a good thing for the RSA based on a fair run in the AB. Most people would accept that Champ's hurdle form is better than Santini's and he must be on the shortlist for next season. The rest have a lot to prove.

Santini was vastly more inexperienced than Champ ever was.

7 runs to Santini's 3 (including a ptp).

Champ will be 8 next year

For reference so will Kemboy!

Would really question how much he will improve and also how many will improve past him?

Not sure what thread to post this on but is anyone showing an interest in tomorrow’s card at Cheltenham?
I’m backing a few that failed to fire at this year’s festival and a few horses on the upgrade. I fancy Hendo having a decent day

I took some 4/1 for Mister Whittaker.

Very tempted to have some of that 7/4 about Dingo Dollar as well

Chance taken Highway One o One, but only small as this isn't a meeting I place too much faith in form holding up

Dingo Dollar 9/4 Sky/365

I’ve put 2 Lucky 31’s combining Fergal O’Briens and Nicky Henderson horses. I’m intrigued by Wenyerreadyfreddies first run at Cheltenham and Rather Be back over hurdles.

Had a £5 free bet to use so have put on a comically speculative 400/1 double of Le Richebourg & Delta Work. Equally, I think there are worse 400/1 shots out there!

I see there is a bit of talk about BDD in the Yankee thread. I mentioned a little while back that BDD for the Mares was my only real money single bet placed this far out at a boosted 6.5/1 with Hills. Thought it worth pointing out she’s a boosted 5.4/1 in the Hills any race market. I think this is probably the better play in case she does an Annie Power switcheroo or even reverts to fences. I’ve had a point on each market but plan on topping up any race if she’s declared at Punchestown

Agree with that.

She cost me a fortune this year when falling but she had the race won at the time. I would fancy her to bounce back next year and win it.

Also my Only bets for Cheltenham next year so far; BDD and Laurina any Race 5/1. I’m expecting one of them to turn up in the mares hurdle and have the race at their mercy. One will go else where but happy taking a slightly lower price for the any race security and still having a runner. The any race is value compared to sky’s odds and I’m happy to keep topping up with my free bets from WH

Very tempted to pull the trigger on the Altior 3/1 (QMCC), Min 12/1 (Ryanair) double, 51/1 with Will Hill. If both win next week then they’ll probably shorten.

Benie Des Dieux / Paisley Park double at 23.5/1 is one of my first bets. This could easily be a 3/1 double at the off.

Malone Road (any race) 15.3/1 is one I'm chipping away at whenever I have a few quid spare.

That BDD & Paisley Park double is a great bet. I’m getting involved there FM.

It's a long way off - but 7/2 for Paisley Park is as silly as it was for Buveur D'air two years ago isn't it?

The target is absolutely certain. We MIGHT have City Island enter the frame, and IF The Cap Fits definitely worth noting BUT the rest will be 'failed' chasers (an over played and over bet angle) that always get over rated and there is only Big Bucks that has done that.

I can see why you've done what you've done FM. I'll give this (a lot) more thought tomorrow... will be doing my Cheltenham analysis tomorrow too.

Guessing you don’t have a 365 account as 16s for the supreme with cashout better than any race option with WH.

With Malone Road, Envoi Allen and Andy Defrensne going to be very tough to know who goes where

I disagree. 15.3/1 for any race is a better bet than 16s for the supreme but with the cash out.

Afternoon all.

I posted once or twice last year but had a lot going on and didn’t really engage with the forum. Anyway, just spent the last few weeks going through the 2019 Antepost thread and it looks like virtually everyone made a few quid!!

Just thought I’d share what I have backed for 2020 so far and I will update whenever I put a bet on. You might notice that (rightly or wrongly) I tend to avoid singles and much prefer small stake multiples when hunting for the life changer!! Admittedly not a great strategy (came close in 2016 - Zubayr in the Triumph and the first Cue Card fall costing me semi-retirement) but I avoid flat racing like the plague and this keeps me going through the summer.

Huge amount of knowledge on here so I expect to be sponging tips over the coming months - here are my bets and good luck to all of you!!

Envoi Allen & Malone Road both to win 100/1 - £20 Sky

Paisley Park (SH), Altior (QM), Klassical Dream (Any race) all to win 100/1 - £20 Sky

Malone Road, Envoi Allen, Thomas Derby, Delta Work, Commander Of Fleet all to place 80/1 - £20 Sky

Draconien (Arkle) 40/1, Commander Of Fleet (RSA) 20/1, Brewin’upastorm (JLT) 25/1, Delta Work (GC) 20/1 - 33p L15 Sky *FB

Malone Road (Supreme) 16/1, Envoi Allen (Ballymore) 12/1, Altior (QM) 3/1, Paisley Park (SH) 3/1 - £3 win acca Betfred

Malone Road (Supreme) 16/1, Envoi Allen (Ballymore) 12/1, A Plus Tard (RyanAir) 20/1, Delta Work (GC) 20/1 - £1 eway L15 Betfred

Malone Road (Supreme) 16/1, Envoi Allen (Ballymore) 10/1, Minella Indo (RSA) 20/1, A Plus Tard (RyanAir) 20/1, Delta Work (GC) 20/1 - 50p eway L31 B365

Brewin’upastorm (Arkle) 25/1, Trevelyn’s Corn (RSA) 66/1, Cilaos Emery (QM) 20/1, Samcro (JLT) 16/1, A Plus Tard (RyanAir) 20/1, Delta Work (GC) 20/1 - 35p Heinz B365

Minella Indo (RSA) 16/1, Dynamite Dollars (QM) 33/1, A Plus Tard (RyanAir) 20/1 - £1.25 Trixie B365

Malone Road (Supreme) 16/1, Samcro (JLT) 16/1, City Island (CH) 25/1 - £1.25 Trixie B365

Just wanted to add my opinion on the RSA - great race but think TOTG was best on the day. I don’t understand the love for Santini and for me, the one to take out of it was Delta Work - should add that I am pocket talking ever so slightly!!

Oh and Tiger Roll for the GC - Discuss :highly_amused:
