but Russell on him in Coral Cup is what I'm banking on

and being a bit more serious than just picking horses beginning with A, there isn't any value in Apple's Jade or Altior now but if I get lucky and they arrive on the day.... they may well make up a nice base for the more speculative selections. Annamix will only need to win on debut to at very least half in price. He may well be sub 2/1 on the day. Adjali is also speculative but as CCM has just said in the Triumph thread, a lot of potential challngers didn't hit their marks over the weekend, and he's with the right trainer to win the AB - he may well be sub 4/1 on the day too.

Its best price 522/1 with 888 and 474/1 with 365

I used to do something very similar Kev, making Quevega and Big Bucks the two bankers and built a lot of trebs etc around them. Worked a treat for a few years as well! Because I don't bet much out side of Cheltenham, I have no issues tying up money on shorties from more or less as soon as the previous festival has finished, and I now find myself sitting pretty with both Altior and BVD, should they get there.
 
I thought skybet went NRNB the week following Christmas then New Year’s Day went NRNB on all races but I could be wrong. Definitely the earliest it’s ever been

4-1 each way 1/4 odds 3 places, as if he runs he's likely to have looked good again, and/or HE (Altior) may not be there,
if HE (altior) is you just need him to finish placed in what could be a low runner race anyhow if (Altior) HE's there.

Altior shall now be referred to as HE.

Worth noting they are BOG too so very little downside to one of these bets.

Thinking out loud - Best case scenario is Altior doesn't make the festival for that bet to be worth the wait though?

Would probably place, but quite a wait to get your money back - and he's now fallen this season and made a howler at Cheltenham in the Arkle...


If he lined up on the day he'd be an each way shot to nothing... (and this is effectively betting on the day), he won't be an each way price on the day though... they wouldn't push him past 4/1 even if Altior got silly short would they?

just depends how likely you think it is he can win still?

Your first sentence is obviously correct, If it did happen and Footpad has won a grade one at 2 miles looking like last season. What price ?
I'd say 2-1 best and probably shorter. I'm gonna look on Mayo's historic odds thread and see what he was at start of season
 
Footpad was 5-1 when Altior was 11/8, thought 4-1 looked ok.
 
Second season novices have such a good record it's impossible to not back
Monalee 40-1 and ABP 33-1 for the Gold cup.
Arguably the 2nd and 3rd best staying novices of last year, and both would probably have better reputations were it not for one other horse and a couple of mishaps. Both could really impress in their next couple of races and the prices at NRNB are clear value.

I'd be expecting a return on the bet for sure.

I actually haven't got a penny on Footpad for this festival yet.


If I woke up and anything had happened to Altior I'd be livid I hadn't placed the bet.

and you're right, he's 4/1 NRNB with full cashout available as opposed to 5/1 now but 1/5 the odds.

I've gone 5pts each way, can afford to tie it up and leave it to run it's course. I don't think he'll run here if he's an also ran.
