Cheltenham 2019 Ante-Post bets

They're all grey

The makings of "this-will-not-be-beaten" Goliath :highly_amused:

I feel like I have to stress, I am not about to back any horses just because they're grey:very_drunk:

Cant remember which thread some one asked about duca de thaix for a handicap, I got Hills to price up this morning and they offered 25/1

I’d like to open up some debate that does not concern betting or odds directly. This season the PtP purchase prices ha e gone through the roof and I’ve been keeping an eye on things more closely than previous seasons. The normal route for ex-pointers is to have a season in bumpers before engaging in a novice Hurdle campaign and then whatever future sphere afterwards. Even when a PtP recruit is deemed a future chaser, they still have a season in bumpers as they fill their frame and gain valuable experience. I’m not sure if it’s just this season or I have been oblivious to it previously, but it seems like a few expensive point to point purchases are skipping their bumper season and going straight over hurdles. The three that I am aware of (there could be more) are as follows:

Trevelyn's Corn 5yo (£400K) starts off in a novice Hurdle tomorrow for Paul Nicholls

Feel My Pulse 4yo (£330K) confirmed by Gordon Elliott that he will go hurdling this season.

Champagne Platinum 4yo (£250k) has been entered up over hurdles by Nicky Henderson but yet to take up an engagement.

Now I’d like to gauge opinion from the learned folk on here with regards to how you’d interpret this decision:

1.) Would you back the above horses or consider them during their Hurdle season, knowing they’ve skipped bumpers?

2.) Are they being expedited into their Hurdle campaign because:
a) they are very talented and can be successful this season
or
b) they are just getting the Hurdle season out the way quickly so that they can start chasing as early as possible?

Answers on a postcard.

Where was it Elliot said about Feel My Pulse hurdling this year, I think I must've missed it? Been waiting for this horse for a while sounds like he has the potential to be something special.

He did in his RP tour but don't take it as gospel. As column of fire is slotting in. They've unfortunately lost 2 serious prospects in rapid escape and master of tara so it looks like they're bringing him in as they'll need novice chasers for next year.

Thanks Scooby! Yes I had always thought we wouldn't really see him over hurdles til next season anyway, I see he is already on WH at 20/1 for any race but don't think I'll be rushing for that anytime soon until there's something bit more concrete about anyway.

I know scooby said Sully D'oc Aa is a 'Saint Calvados' type - but one of the leading things that I liked about Saint Calvados was that he'd gone to Harry Whittington (who'd had success with Arzal) - He went to Venitia Williams then Harry before running which was strange but it worked out well.

Surprised if a JP horse for Anthony Honeyball has a similar career trajectory ahead of him (happy to be corrected though, I hadn't even looked at his french form other than the results) :)

Is it possible to spend racing rewards points on Cheltenham Festival tickets? I'm trying to buy some tickets but can't see an option to use racing rewards.

Any help would be appreciated.

There's a redeem R4R option on billing screen through the main cheltenham site

Thanks all.

It isn't linking to my account for some reason so I'm being billed at full price. I've sent them an email to see if they can do anything.

Thanks all.

You definitely can, i've used them for both their membership and individual tickets. I had 2 accounts and they were able to link them up as well. Could be worth giving them a call

I had exactly the same issue FM.
Several unaswered e-mails went by and they eventually came back saying there was nothing wrong with my account set up, I didn’t want lose the early price so I bought them and still have a balance of over £600.
I also had the same issue as others in that points weren’t being allocated properly, another string of e-mails followed and the good people at R4R said you need to log into your account at least once a week, presumably settings alter if you don’t log in.
Maybe I’m cynicle but it’s not in their interest to make it easy for you to redeem points....

Thanks both. They are certainly making it difficult to spend my points.

I have never had a problem with points missing or being able to use my tickets, I have used my points for festival tickets this year and also completed the same last year. Hopefully once you are set up then it will be straight forward after that. I do agree any email traffic can be abit slow but I usually got a response within a few days
