Does anyone else other than me think that Balko Des Flos is unconsidered for the Gold Cup. What have Giggi got for this next year? He won the Ryanair very well and the form looks solid to me. I think he might be stepped up in trip. I'm on.

This was my first free bet Bigfish,that performance at the fest was the most impressive for me and with shattered love they have a mare that is as big as a gelding and would be very hard to beat with that mares allowance in next years ryanair, (ground slight worry). Balko (gold cup) shattered love (ryanair) double. Could be completely wrong though , its all just a guess..

Penhill currently rated 100 on the flat. The same owner's Withhold is on 99. If previous Melbourne Cups are anything to go by, you need to be rated about 110 to get in unless you win one of the races which gives automatic qualification.

I'd guess they'd have them the other way around.

Shattered Love already won a G1 over further and BDF could be a nice solid horse in the mould of "in the race that he is most likely to win".

Doesn't matter with free bets I suppose

I agree with your reckoning Birds Nest whether a free bet or not. Its worth a dabble at this time.I can't see them trying Outlander again in the Gold Cup.I'm sticking to small stakes E/W multifolds again. I usually get more than my outlay back. That'll do me.

I was very impressed by Great Field the other day in beating Doctor Pheonix. A young and improving chaser to worry Altior in the 2019 QMCC. Willie will have a live chance with this one. Douvan will be trained for the Gold Cup I reckon.

You must be expecting a huge amount of improvement to challenge Altior.

He hasn't done anything than Min couldn't have done yet... he'll need to be a clear stable number 1 in the 2 mile chase division for me to think he'd beat an on-form Altior

Is it at all possible that Min could be rerouted and uturn to compete in the Champion Hd. 2019? He will surely be in the Ryanair though, won't he.? If he does run in the CHd. it would take a better horse than Buveur Dair to beat him I reckon.

I think Min improved as a chaser so I'd be shocked if he went back over hurdles at any stage.

He was well clear of everything bar Altior and he looks (and always has to me) looked a two-miler. I think they'll train him for the Champion Chase again... if Altior is there, then so-be-it. They won't revert back to hurdles just incase Altior turns up.


There is more of a possibility that Min it tried up in trip in a graded race to see whether or not he stays. I'm certain they won't be making a plan until next season though and wouldn't want to be tying up any money on him this far out.

If you strictly took the theory about the PP prices about targets you'd say the Gold Cup won't be his target.


25/1 would obviously be a brilliant price if he turned up on the day.... but the reason it is 25/1 is because him not turning up for that race on that day is a big risk.

It is a "free bet only" kind of price IMO

I just can’t see Our Duke ever jumping fluently and efficiently enough to win a race ran at Gold Cup pace. I don’t buy the issue with the ground this year if anything that should have helped him get into a decent rhythm
