Cheltenham 2018 Ante post bets

455 pts for Samcro COC Shakira

I am not doing anything until last week in Feb... other than waiting for some Stay Humble news... incredibly unlikely he runs at Cheltenham though now, with two very strong contenders already from the stable

The good new is none of them are running before chelt. Aslong as stay humble isn't officially ruled out beforehand which there is no reason to as he's never been mentioned. The others could shorten up even more still.

That's what I have done so far as well I have not betted on any of the handicaps so far. I will be waiting till each day to see what I like the look off. Its just about the sport for me. All about the entertainment and the Festival to enjoy. Once me bets are all sorted on the day. I be chilling and have a few Guinness on the day. Enjoy the day racing. :)

Its funny how the gamblers mind works, even though his form is 'meh' (finished 2nd in the coral 2016 before going chasing), well over a year off and if he does run the Ryanair he'll be going down in trip over fences (which isnt always a positive)........I REALLY fancy Long House Hall for the Ryanair, ive backed him pretty handsomely as well for me, win and ew and something inside me just believes he'll run a cracker.

Anyone else got a horse that you thing will run a cracker but you cant quite put your finger on it why?

The story teller
I love his chasing technique and his relax nature during a race. He makes ground at every fence and continues to be restrained back straight after he's landed the other side. he was in the very deep end at the weekend. Im convinced he will come good somewhere and the key would be to make more use of him. I have liked him since his run behind monalee over hurdles

I agree. Where do you think he will go @ Chelt?

If he magically got a mark of 145 over here. The novice handicap chase. On day 1

If he dosent, there's lots of options.
Ultima handicap chase

Someone earlier on here made a good case for him to go back over hurdles for a handicap.

Had a decent win on the Super Bowl, so I’ve placed a 6fold(also the 4and 5 folds) of what I consider the bankers

Supersundae - 3/1
Laurina - 7/4
Getabird - 5/2
Apples Jade - 8/13
Samcro - 8/11
Cause of Causes - 11/4

6 fold pays around 430/1

I’d like to think I’m done with antepost now unless any promos take my fancy

Edit: before anyone says it, I just don’t rate rate Buv, I can’t put my finger on it but I never have, definitely heart over head. I’ve also not been that impressed with his runs this year.

Amazing game hey Fly, the philly eagles also covered 80% of my anti posts for cheltenham.. Lucky I am a palace fan :)

I recall at the betfair preview night last year someone asked about him and Elliot said "You're a very smart man"

As someone who has backed the two second favourites can anyone see any danger to Samcro and Laurina beyond the obvious handling ground and track provisos?

Must admit I am pretty much resigned to my fate.

As a Samcro backer the only horse im worried about if he runs in the Ballymore is On the Blind side who i could see possibly running him down late, other than that only dangers i can see are the hurdles or an act of god.

i fully agree with this, but let’s hope Samcro goes Ballymore

I know this may sound stupid but is anyone else not concerned about current weather for fest? I know it’s still weeks away yet and still plenty of time, but this weather is still forecast. Apparently snow is forecast next week too. Do you think we will see spring ground or the going be heavy?

Too early to be worrying about the ground for me with 5 weeks still to go. Cheltenham has an excellent drainage system anyway.

It's not so much the drainage Sean, though they upgraded the irrigation a few years ago, it's the increased air temperature that dries the ground in March compared to deep Winter.
12-15 degrees with the winds that hit the course will dry the ground out even when the water table is high.
Mr Claisse will be under pressure to ensure ground doesn't get too quick during the week so I expect to see ground more soft than good on day one, especially if they get a dry week forecast....

Things change quickly. I walk the dog around the course regularly and it can be soft and muddy one day, then fairly firm a few days later after few dry days. Definitely premature to be thinking about weather now.
