Champion Hurdle 2020

On a side note what a great servant Petit Mouchoir has been, cannot believe he is only 8 he seems to have been around forever. From placing in Buveurs 1st champion hurdle win to running in Footpads arkle and now still consistent in grade 1 hurdles, fantastic little warrior

Yep, bloody love him, heart on his little sleeve kinda horse.

Paddy Power/Betfair have cut Epatante to 5/2F, shortest in the market for the race.

It tells you what that firm think of the Irish challenge, given their knowledge of that scene.

Horrific price

Well... they'll have to consider it strongly.
Next years renewal could be extremely strong with the likes of Envoi and/or Aba potentially going on to becoming strong contenders

These last two years with the ground coming up testing has really thrown the spanner in the works for these novices, those coming out of the supreme and ballymore have all pretty much disappointed in open company

It really does look like a poor renewal.

I'd like to see how KD comes out of this today, it was a shocking jump there. Sharjah needs good ground at the festival to be a contender.

I think Honeysuckle should take a chance, but I am very concerned all of her form has been over at Fairyhouse. She'd been to prove to me that she can run elsewhere and perform just as well

Not going to happen. She's a 2 1/2 miler. Would get beat over 2 even in this year.

echo comments above, 5/2f is a shocking price
sure to see a few routed to this race, and better and more proven animals than Epatante

happy to see Epatante go off that price on the day, and have nothing on it. Not sure we'll see any more of her between now and march, but thats the state of the hurdling scene where a horse thats won a handicap and followed it up in a weak (said it at the time it was weak) races at kempton. Could be improving but will be struggling to back a horse who appears to take to speed tracks whilst the one and only time they've been to cheltenham they slugged their way up the hill

No thank you

I don't mind backing a 2 1/2 miler for a well run champion hurdle, with potentially testing conditions
My main concern with her is whether she'd take to cheltenham, not ideally testing this out first time out in a champion hurdle

Plenty have done it before but I hear your point.

This is a bit left field (especially from me).
Talking up a five year old.
But I thought Couer Sublime ran an interesting race today.
Definitely looks like a strong traveller that would like a stronger pace and a hill finish.
And the jockey was very kind on him today once they'd skipped away off the bend.
Glad I have a saver on him as he might have a say come March.

There, I've said it.

Maybe. Has Fez form so acts on course in spring and will improve. Decent Ew shout.

He made a noise and they're getting his wind checked.

Whether they'd still bother running him in the CH. I dont know.

I'll not be swapping my 25/1 ticket.....not that I'm boasting or anything....lol !

I thought he seemed very easy on the horse. Makes sense now.

Was the Champion Hurdle market as chaotic as this years at this stage last year?? Every horse appears to going backwards whenever they get close to the top end

I honestly wouldn’t be interested in him at 100/1. He has literally 0 form that makes him get anywhere near placing in a champion hurdle - even a weak renewal as this one will be.

As for today, Klassical Dream. Deary me. I’ve made a real mess of this race unless Saldier turns up fully fit (which I’d hope he will).

I haven’t a penny on her but it’s ridiculous to my eye that Honeysuckle isn’t running here. She’d absolutely gag up.

She wouldn't though. Trust me

Really is a funny Champion Hurdle year.

Did anyone manage to see or find any trainer comments from Martin Brassil when City Island disappointed on chase debut?

I was hoping to see something along the lines of “We might look for a Hurdle race next time”

:highly_amused:

What a mess this race is for ante post players and I doubt I'll have another bet in it until the final decs.

In all likelihood this will end up being a maximum field with enhanced place terms on the day of race. I'm done with throwing good money after bad.

Bet NH is praying every night please get Buveur D'Air to the Champion Hurdle
