Buveur D'air equally effective behind a pacemaker, no matter what colours it's in, in my opinion.

I think BD has more stamina than HF had. BD was a staying on 3rd in his supreme behind altior and min making up ground all the time. I wouldn't be worried it it turned into a bit of a stamina test, he'll be making up ground as most hurdles as well.
What a supreme that was by the way....

It wouldn't be a problem for BD but it's the only way Samcro could get close.

That's what happens to supasundae on decent ground. Hes no CH horse. Dosent hqve the pace in a million years. Unless it came up a complete bog.

First time out you can forgive him can't you?

Didn't run too badly - I didn't watch that and think about him, let alone rule him out of this race?

Samcro got well spanked by Buveur D'Air but we were reasonably happy. He's 15 lengths clear of last year's Supreme Novice and I see no reason to change the Champion Hurdle plan" - Michael O'Leary

Don't think many horses could have lived with Apple's Jade today. Don't see any reason why you'd use today as a guage.

He got beat by Apples Jade in the same race last year, again on his seasonal debut. Was beat further today but was still well beat by 10 lengths last year. Yet he went on to win the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown and then the Champion Hurdle at Punchestown.

I don't see anyway he'll beat Buveur D'Air but I still think he's up there with the rest over 2 miles.

Look at the ground of his other 2 mile races. He dosent have the toe to win a CH

Take Buveur D'air out of the race then..... who would Supasundae fear?

Samcro?!

No need to Crow - probably never happen anyway (Supasundae run in a champion hurdle)
But a gentle reminder that Apples Jade beat supasundae 10l in hattons grace last season, on soft ground. Then Supasundae went on to win Irish champion hurdle and Punchestown Champion hurdle.
So today's run is evidence of nothing other than the trainer is actually happy to run on good ground (unlike the morgiana):disgust:

sorry, seen the other replies now, Mrs was hovering with the Christmas tree so got delayed posting

Supasundae hasn't got the speed for a Champ Hurdle. Has a better chance in the stayers.

If he can win an Irish Champion on soft then he has enough speed for 2 miles - Fact - (beating BD is another matter)

Yeah I agree...

but do think he'll be in the stayers as it'll be easier to win.

Supasundae may not have the speed to win a Champion Hurdle round Cheltenham on good ground but he's got plenty of chance to win the 2 mile trials in Ireland this year, as he did last season even on soft ground. Samcro isn't a 2 mile hurdler, Melon is vulnerable outside of Cheltenham and a real strong pace and Laurina has to prove she can step it up.

To clarify as well, I wasn't so much putting Supasundae up as a fancy for this race or a likely winner. I just raised him several times as the horse I would back each way at 20/1 when looking through the field rather than chancing the likes of Summerville Boy/Laurina

I just don't see how today had any bearing on his chances.

Look at the opposition who finished the race.

Irish champion - Melon, Faugheen, Mick Jazz etc.

Look at the ground it wasn't a speed test.

If he makes it there at all. If the CH come up good to soft you genuinely think he wont be badly outpaced?

Samcro has alot more pace than him. Melon has alot more. Buveur dair in a whole different league. Laurina is meant to be the next superstar mare according to her backers.

He beat a shot Faugheen. Melon is in and out. Mick Jazz is Mick Jazz.

It was soft - which is one rung away from goodtosoft on the going ladder, and it was a speed test as it was over 2 miles.

Plenty of horses have won the champion hurdle in the past that were not what you'd describe as speedy/turn of foot horses, but they could maintain a really strong gallop and/or keep going up the hill when the others were gassing. Just depends on the pace/ground/oppostion and shape of the race on the day. Jezki, Faugheen, Brave Inca, Rock on Ruby, Hardy Eustace etc.

I don;t think he'll run on the champion, I haven't backed him either, but given certain conditions he may/would interest me nearer the time
