Champion Hurdle 2018

You guys are great, your knowledge is invaluable. To get SB to give this NRNB on Faugheen is remarkable. Just said to the wife I'm off for a walk and went straight round to my sisters and managed to get £40 on at the 4/1. Will now get on as many bets as spare cash and price allows. Many thanks gents.

Can't say I'm surprised. Was too big! I imagine they were taking more on that than any of their other RABs!

Well my sister has just texted event suspended and underneath Selection Suspended!
They haven't put the money back into her acc though.

Let me guess, 'Palpable error' ?

Or are they honoring the bet?

There has been nothing to say they won't honour the bet, possibly the message my sister got sounded worse than it is. I think the fact they have just cut the price and reinstated it means the bet will stand, just took them a while to reintroduce it.

That's good then SOAG :)

I've been looking at the Novice Hurdle races from last season, and still view Melon as the potential big improver from the lot, he was ever so gangly and clumsy looking, although not actually overly clumsy in his hurdling.

He looks like he could do with filling out a bit and who knows where he could go with another summer under his belt. I know a few are already keen on him on here and I'd be inclined to agree, but then again I am still of the belief if Faugheen turns up in his best form then he wins still, but value wise, Melon looks a good choice, oh and Arctic Fire, hell, just back them all ;):p

Yes, a great shame we have been deprived of Faugheen for the last two years and sincerely hope we get to see him again this season. Agree about Melon, got a few very small bets on him,and in a couple of multis a/p for CH, which means he will no doubt go for the Arkle!

Advice please guys
Bet Yorkhill at 20/1 after Mullins had said may go hurdling with him ages ago

Got the chance to cash out the bet, what’s everyone’s view of where he will run to help me decide whether to keep the bet in play or cash out and re invest on something else

Good question! Mullins' horses are the hardest to predict mate, personally I'd suspect he'll go chasing, BUT if anything were to happen to his main hopes for the Champion Hurdle then he could easily be re-routed, in all honesty though at this stage your guess is as good as anyone's on here bud.

Exactly this. :encouragement:

You could lay your stake back on the Exchanges to guarantee a profit if he wins (I'm assuming he'll be around 10/1 on there) but the downside of this is you need to tie up 10 x your stake for the best part of six months!

Hello. I'd provably let it ride. I think Yorkhill will end up chasing but at 20/1 I'd be happy to let it ride... even if Yorkhill does remain chasing, they'll still be a chance something happens where he comes back (Faugheen injury, another poor chase display) and to me, it's worth leaving so you don't need to re-invest. I suppose knowing your stake could make a difference if you've got more tied up than is ideal?

It's a bit harsh calling a neck defeat in a Grade 1 a 'poor chase display'. Rated 163 after 3 wins and a second, that is ahead of Might Bite and nearly a stone better than Sizing John's mark this time last year. Ruby is very keen on Yorkhill going for the Gold Cup. Willie isn't so sure but I think they see Faugheen and Melon as ahead of Yorkhill for this.
With all the Mullins horses there are a few key individuals who are planned and campaigned with a particular race in mind with the others fitting in around them. As it stands, you probably have Stayers (Nichols Canyon), Champion Hurdle (Faugheen and Melon) and Champion Chase (Douvan). If they all stay fit, I could see Yorkhill and Djakadam in the Gold Cup and Min in the Ryanair but an injury to any one of the linchpins would put everything back in the mixer.

If yorkhill wasn't brought back last year I don't see what needs to happen for him to brought back this year, last year Mullins only had the mighty footpad and Wicklow Brave and he stayed chasing.

The reason they didn't last year was because they didn't want to 'waste his novice chase status'

and archie, I could change my original comment to say "A poor display", instead of "another", as it was more a hypothetical example, but - I think it was a poor display. I don't think it was a bad result in the literal way you've taken it - a lot of trainers and owners would love a horse who could have a neck defeat in a grade 1... but we're talking about a horse he doesn't look particularly good over any obstacle, bar the Neptune/JLT?

I would say Yorkhill has only looked good over his fences at Cheltenham once, and the rest of the times he hasn't looked good, but has won anyway/or been beaten 'on talent'. I don't think he'd be able to win the Gold Cup with that talent, but I DO think he could win a CH (this season)

Also, using Sizing John's rating is moot, as are all ratings when it is out of handicap company to a point?

I definitely agree with your assessment of where the runners are most likely to go at this stage though, and I'm sure they'll have more than one aimed at the big races to cover for inevitable injuries

I appreciate it's all subjective opinion, Kev, but the handicapper's verdict of 162 is more supportive of my view. Ruby usually gets his way and I'd be fairly confident that Yorkhill will start of fences with some serious metal and leather equipment around his mouth. I'm also fairly confident that he is capable of beating Our Duke, Might Bite and Thistlecrack and is the main danger to Sizing John so I'd be surprised and disappointed to see him in the CH.

As I said, it's all about opinion and respect to anyone who backs his opinion this early in the piece.

Campeador runs tomorrow at Punchestown. My attempts of backing him at a three figure price failed miserably!

You might get the 3 figure price when hidden cyclone puts him away tomorrow:highly_amused:

Without the falls what kind of profile would we be looking at here!
