Champion Hurdle 2018

I could see DM trying to kick on with Yorkhill alright. It’s far from a penalty kick imo. For some reason this race sticks in my head - Faugheen winning over 3miles on heavy as a novice

That was Faugheen doing his thing wasn't it? You have to think on the ground if 90% of the old him turned up they would all struggle to go with him, using headgear suggests to me they don't intend changing his running style, and they need to grind the finish out of BD

Faugheens good run this year was on soft/heavy too. Most of BDAs form is on sof. His only win on heavy was in last years contenders at Sandown. Of the two I think Faugheen at this stage will benefit most from it being a slog in a bog. Also expect David Mullins to let Yorkhill bomb on rather than try and restrain him.

I have several bets on Faugheen from last year, all at 6's, so I'm well covered, I've never really given up hope with those but I'm a huge Yorkhill fan, and if they do send him on I think they may struggle to get to him so, having said I won't be backing him I will cover him, ew just in case.
I have BD at13/8 in 3 bets with Footpad 7/4 and Altior 5/4 all going onto Native River 14's, Our Duke 14's and Double Shuffle 33's, so if the other 2 win he gives me a couple of good bets in the GC, but I have niggling doubts about all 3 hotpots the obvious one at the mo with Altior.
Back to this race now, if the Mullins mob can break BD, what chances of a 1 2 3, I think a small tricast is warranted covering Faugheen, Yorkhill and Wicklow Brave

I said it three weeks ago MrM. As you have, I've covered Buveur DAir and Altior in some multis and exotics with the other favs. They were all better prices back in November than their present odds. I hope that Ive got the main contenders covered. Time to relax and enjoy the sport we love. Good Luck to you all.

"My Tent Or Yours is a non runner in the @unibet Champion Hurdle today on veterinary advice"

Maybe a last hurrah for the tent at the Aintree hurdle before a well deserved retirement?

Means nothing but on course English seem to be on Elgin Irish on Yorkhill

That was a sweat. I think the winner has run a fair way below his best. Think the JP team concentrated far too much on beating a washed up Faugheen.

Pays the same though with an added thrill thrown in! Would prefer Cause of Causes to win at a canter tomorrow mind. Betting in August really can pay off...

What a race though. Too close for my liking but a cracker nevertheless!

Good :) glad to hear it.... get stuck in!

I obviously respect everyones opinion on here and no malice is intended in this.... but if you believe that Melon being beaten by 3L by Labaik in the Supreme is Champion Hurdle winning form because Labaik is a good work horse then we are on different planets.

There are loads of reasons for that, for one... what is Labaik working with that is good enough to beat BVD? EVEN if there is one, there is no actual proof of that being true.

I'll leave that point... and move on to the Melon race - I did think Melon was worth more than that run and will have posted on here at the time... however, he then was brushed aside in the Irish Champion Hurdle...and I now can't forgive either run?

I read that raceform from a far and distant place Kev. I was so nearly right.

I'm confused by what you mean. A far and distant place? Sounds more like a case of a broken clock being right twice a day :p

What were you nearly right about?

Your point was than Labaik was a brilliant work horse for Gordon Elliott, so Melon coming 3L second to him for Willie Mullins, was good enough form to win a Champion Hurdle?

The way I would read it...

Melon was below par in the Irish Champion Hurdle and then bounced back to produce a career best in the Champion Hurdle. If you we're willing to forgive him ICH run, and follow the money on the day, then so be it... but from a form perspective his best piece of form was the defeat, giving weight, to MTOY. Unfortunately we didn't get to see MTOY to see just how much he had improved.

You said I must be on a different planet to you if I thought that Melon had the form to trouble Buveur Dair in the Champion Hurdle. So therefore the 'far and distant place' reference. It's not confusing at all. I was nearly right about him having the ability to beat BD. Again not confusing. Although I am confused by your response. Take it easy.

What I said is

"if you believe that Melon being being beaten by 3L by Labaik in the Supreme is Champion Hurdle winning form because Labaik is a good work horse then we are on different planets"

I'm confused by where your proof is coming from about Labaik being the super work horse and what relevance that had/has.

Melon clearly improved on his run behind Labaik in the Supreme? You do your own ratings don't you, so what mark did Melon run to when 2nd to Labaik for you compared to 2nd to BVD?

He just looks progressive.

Supreme RPR of 155
International Hurdle RPR of 160 for 3rd
Champion Hurdle RPR of 166

Buveur D'air has run up to a RPR of 170+ twice, so I still don't think on BVD's best day Melon has the form to get near him (Certainly not on his Supreme)..... I think if we took the winning margains literally too, John Constable has the form in the book to challenge Buveur D'air in a Champion Hurdle... it just isn't a reasonable argument.

What you seem to be saying is you were right originally and on that run in the supreme it was good enough to run BVD close. I'd argue that ISN'T the case, and Melon's CH run was a better run.

Which is why I'm confused by you searching back through and picking out my quote...
