Champion Bumper 2020

If he bombs Sunday he still needs to qualify though yeah?

Yes but plenty of opportunities to find another race to secure qualification though, as Morley Street suggests, to take his chance he would need to win/go close...

Yeah Paddy mentioned good ground in the interview SC posted.
Won’t be too disappointed if he crashes in deep ground and thr chance is presented to nail a bigger price next week...

Thurles going is currently yielding to soft so not deep ground unless there is a deluge which isn't forecast

This is it then. Time for a striking performance and a huge price drop. New fav for Bumper by Sunday teatime. Lovely.

"The form of Power Of Pause's point-to-point has worked out well and we're looking forward to getting the son of Doyen started in the bumper (4.20). He's a nice type and should like the ground.["/I]

From Willie Mullins' column in Saturday's Racing Post.

Mullins does do schooling bumper races doesn't he... the best of them wouldn't have floundered over to Market Rasen in my opinion. (She looked excellent visually but meh...)

He'll be unleashing his best ones soon, you'd think :)

New fav for the race on Sunday I reckon

If he bombed you could throw your bet in the bin along with any others for a Mullins horse in this race.

Would be disappointing if he dosent win. Fully expect him to.

Yes to that my son ! Got this feeling in my pants that POP (love that abbreviation) is the real deal. Doubt too many other Bumper runners will be seen between this weekend and racetime either. Bugger me, this wine is strong.....

Ferny Hollow and Power Of Pause were my two guesses. Nothing can be much more than a guess.

I have cashed out on Ferny Hollow as he has looked pretty horrible in two runs. Not straightforward if you want to be kind.

It has to be a concern that Power Of Pause is starting over a longer trip and we haven't seen him sooner. Why? If he is to be competitive in March he really should be bolting up on Sunday. It isn't a strong race.

The Champion Bumper itself remains up for grabs.

Agree. Should be winning this on the bridal to be a big shot in Festival Bumper. Shit race.

4/9 early show power of pause
The traders are definitely on this forum

from Declan Phelan on PowerOfPause..... he exercised after racing a fortnight ago and came ten lengths clear of the filly Panic Attack, and said lady looked the part at Market Rasen on Thursday

She's beat trees there to be fair, whilst receiving weight. So I wouldn't take that as being amazing.

But hes done plenty more than that, and well see tomorrow.

Lets hope POP does the business tomorrow, as the trees he's up against haven't even got legs.

Hi all, new member! Why is everyone nervous for this nag tomorrow? I'm on at 33/1 with a couple of strong fancies of mine for the week based on the comments from this forum, So I'd be hopeful of a strong run! What makes POP so interesting tho as opposed to Appreciate It who I also fancy..I also saw someone say 2m 4f to start is a bad thing. Personally I think it's good to run further in prep for a bumper at Cheltenham

I would have thought it was obvious why starting off over an extended trip would not be a plus. Most Champion Bumper winners would not entertain running over that trip. What makes it more strange is the fact he won a shorter point on good ground. On that basis you would have assumed/hoped he had a gear or two.

Carefully Selected did start over that trip but that was at Christmas and he then dropped back in trip. He is now looked on as a National Hunt Chase prospect.

He is more interesting than Appreciate It because he is less exposed. That could all change.

Appreciate it and POP have previously ran in the same schooling bumper. As has the mare who won. Ramillies. Deploy the getaway. .......

Knowing a bumper horse can stay 2m3f is hardly a negative going into the Cheltenham bumper where stamina usually comes to the fore.

How is that 'not a plus'?

He can still have gears and get the trip :highly_amused:
