Ballymore Novice Hurdle 2020

Elixir d'ainay

“I'd imagine we'll go to the Dublin racing festival now, and probably over two-and-a-half. We'll go wherever we can and try and plan a path to Cheltenham maybe and try and avoid the other fella!”

I've only watched the last half of the race but a slight concern with Asterion Forlonge would be how he jumped out to his right. Would want to see him jump straighter before I could fancy him for Cheltenham as impressive as he was today.

On his tendency to jump right:- “I don't know why he was doing that. Schooling at home he goes the other way.

“He was probably just idling. He wants to do anything but do the right thing which is a good sign as it means there is way more improvement to come.

“He had to do it the hard way, make all his own running there today, and was just running around in front.

“Hopefully we can sort that out before his next run.”

Says to me that he feels Unexcepted would beat Elixir D'Ainay over 2 otherwise he'd surely drop him back at Dublin. Same trainer/owner combination. No other reason IMO.

Not sure some connections realise that there isn’t a 2M4F race at the DRF. The only Graded Novice Hurdle race between now and the Festival above 2M and less than 3M is the Grade 1 Golden Cygnet over 2M6F at the DRF. It would be interesting to see if ED is aimed at that or the 2M Grade 1 on the same weekend. If Envoi Allen misses the meeting then WPM choice of race for Elixir D’Ainay could reveal more about where his Cheltenham destiny lies.

Agree. Don't think Unexcepted can go anywhere else other than Supreme.

That's just an assumption. The DRF is in feb.

He could go to the county, if hes well beaten again.

You have a big tongue in your cheek saying that Scooby. Think he will step up markedly on his last performance next time and put himself right back in the Supreme picture. He is a very good horse

No tongue in cheek at all. He hasn't ran to a mark of 140 yet.
Iv never got the talk of him being the main supreme Horse.

But on hard facts, realistically if hes soundly beaten against the likes of abacadabras, I think they'll look at the county off a mark in the 130s.

Theres a gap now to the DRF, a 2miler might run inbetween.

Gordon says if he was a betting man he'd say Envoi would keep to his own grade and at 2 miles he'd have to be forcing it all the way. Over 2 1/2 he'd find it easy to drop in and ride a race. Tear up those Supreme/Churdle slips. Lovely.

If he runs in the County I'll never bet again...................

Fuck that ! Lol !

He always uses that phrase, and it amuses me, he clearly is a betting man. He knows the current odds of all of his horses that he accidentally slips in, in many interviews.

Gordo is a punter :)

Takes his mates racing , lands a few touches :highly_amused:

Who was the quote from? WPM?

WPM uses Handicap Hurdle entries really wisely at the Festival, the county probably being the main race for him. I could easily see Unexcepted try the 2M Grade 1 at the DRF, and if unsuccessful then the County could come into consideration.

Scooby is good at pinpointing the possible routes that this trainer would think of. Under 140 OR in the County after finishing say 3 to 5 lengths off the Grade 1 winner could happen.

Impressive from Asterion Forlonge. A big horse. As per Simon Rowlands on Twitter, Asterion was 5l quicker up the home straight than Envoi Allen there. Pinch of salt obviously but could have a future
I was surprised at that quote and expected it to be quickening of a slow pace. But looking at the fractions of 15 seconds per furlong which was what they were hitting today. If you adjust the grade 1race down by 1 minute for the 4 furlongs further of the races you get Envoi @ 3.57.1 and Asterion @3.56.7.

Go figure that and I am not trying to crab Envoi Allen
