Ballymore Novice Hurdle 2020

The Bumper winner has not gone on to win the Ballymore for 20 years. Last horse to do it was Monsignor.

How many have even contested it?

Just been back through them all, only Pizzaro has gone from the bumper to the ballymore since then and he finished second.

The majority go to the Supreme which I think we all think is a mistake, a couple to the AB and the rest injured

The reason that they're "shite" is that, not 1 of the past horses in the stats, were envoi allen. So it has no relevance what so ever,
each horse should be judged on his/ her own merits, rather than grouping past horses together that have no relevance to each other ability wise.

They just happened to run in the same race.
What use does that have, to determine how good a completely different horse is?
 
The relevance is that Bumper champions have clearly proved themselves to be the best in that class/division.

But the step up to Novice hurdling, means that the 'pool' of horses you're now in competition with is far greater, as horses with ability will come from several other spheres.

Bumper champions are usually overbet therefore, as we've generally seen more of them, and we have more evidence to go on.
But it's quite rare that they go on to be champions in their Novice hurdle year, becasue there's usually one or two in the bigger pool that prove to be better.

But I agree totally that Envoi Allen is himself, and he looked lovely yesterday and could turn out to be one of the better bumper winners.
Still early days, but from a punters point of view you'd hope he goes on as it's nice to see horses like this come good and pay off once in a while.

Don't happen as often as some people think though.

Agree, non at all. Don't know what these racing journalists get paid for. The info you get on here is far more informative.
 
Very much looking forward to seeing Andy Dufresne tomorrow. Think he will be GE's next novice big gun after the two obvious ones Malone Road and Envoi Allen.

At the start of the season I said I hoped he was among our best novice hurdle prospects; after Chepstow I can safely say he is our best novice hurdle prospect. To win the Grade 2 Persian War on your hurdling debut was a great start. Interestingly, we did the same with Fingal Bay and he ended up winning at the Cheltenham Festival. Could Thyme Hill do the same? I certainly hope he’ll be good enough to try. His Champion Bumper third was another fantastic piece of form. He’s in great nick and the obvious next race for him is the Grade 2 2m5f novice hurdle at Cheltenham’s Open meeting. But this is not a horse you want to be running every two or three weeks. Last season he ran up a bit lean and light in condition, which is why we gave him a four-month winter break. He’s still inclined to be like that, although it’s not as pronounced this season. And although you’d think he’ll improve masses after one run over hurdles, he knew his job so well first time out, he might not step up markedly next time. Then again, he might not need to. If pressed to say where he might end up, I’d say it would be the Albert Bartlett rather than the shorter Ballymore.

Longhouse Poet still cracking value at 33/1 with Bet365. Not just him but I’ll say again, the Ballymore could be real hot this year.

He must be spending a wedge on horse purchases and training fees each year, maybe he plans to spend most of what he has, enjoying himself, and supporting the trainers he likes.

If the previous owner managed to get out of that, with his money back. Hes completely had it off.

Hes had injury after jnjury and beat absolutely nothing in his bumper.
