Ballymore Novice Hurdle 2019

Perhaps column of fire will improve past him then. They are two interesting horses going forward.

Gordon on Column of Fire after today's race...."He's a nice horse, a big baby,” said Gordon Elliott.

“He'll be a horse that won't do much more this year. He'll have another run in a bumper, I'd say that's all he'll do this year, but he's a horse for the future.

“He was behind the bridle the whole way and only got going at the end.”

He was given to gordon straight for the race by the previous trainer who had him for his ptp. which is why he gave credit to them for the win saying he came to him straight and did little with him himself only asked michael/ Eddie if he could run.

Couldn't it be argued that Gordon would probably improve him too.

You could, but would be easier to see him out on the track in a half decent maiden hurdle to get a proper look at him.

Watched Acey Milan on Sunday and still in 2 minds about it. He seemed to jump round okay but hit a flat spot towards the end but picked up once more, I think the typical Ffos Las ground likely didn't help, so look forward to seeing him on something that resembles a bit less of a bog

Stay Humble entered in the 2m 4f novice hurdle at Fairyhouse tomorrow.

Goes up against Monbeg Worldwide and My Sister Sarah, so will either know my fate with regards to having him for this race or the dream lives on!

Just taken the 74's on offer on the exchanges!

COD- i'd have thought he'd need every bit of 3miles!

Whilst I couldn't probably argue the case (until tomorrow) on what we have seen, on breeding he'd be absolutely fine over the Ballymore trip. His dam was a winner up to 2m 3f, and dam sire had sired the likes of Hors La Loi iii, who was a Supreme winner & a Champion Hurdle runner up, and Cyfor Malta (a bit before my time), who done most of his winning over 2m 4f & 2m 6f including a festival win over 2m 5f albeit over fences.

Stay Humble's sire is Beat Hollow, who's better progeny have generally done well over 2m, the likes of Wicklow Brave and Supreme winner of 2012, Cinders And Ashes. I don't think Stay Humble lacks for speed, as my case made for him earlier in the thread, last season he never looked like a 'built' racehorse, this season he looks the part, and has grown/matured well.

Beat Hollow is also a full brother of Court Cave, the sire of 2017 winner of this race, Willoughby Court. Obviously the strength of breeding alone is not enough and it will now be down to Stay Humble to prove all on the race course, and there is every chance, as you said that 3m will be his trip, but for me, for this present time, I think he'll be a Ballymore contender.

Vision D'honneur entered up in a 2mile maiden hurdle in cork on sunday.

Gigginstown purchase from france £350,000 trained by GE.

Anyone have any thoughts on him?

Blackbow & Commander of Fleet also entered up on the card.

He's on my watchlist but I had no idea on the trip for him as the sire has limited jumps progeny. I'll leave it as a watching brief for now.

Not much apart from He cost a lot after winning on the flat. Nothing has come out of that race and he's a half brother to le martalin.

I think they've over paid on one they were happy to take a chanve on but I'll reserve judgement until he hits the track.

What makes you say they've over paid? The horse has seen the track, there was a battle to buy the horse from different owners and Gordon himself saw the horse in the flesh as well. On top of that, a mare that I've heard you mention before in De Bon Coeur, is by the same sire and she's an absolute star.

I think the definition of 'over paid' in today's market is difficult to quantify as PTP and French prices are sky rocketing in the same way Football transfer fees have.

I just find it hard to see jumps owners paying €350,000 when he's won a single flat race with no substance and hasn't even jumped a hurdle yet.
it's there money, and I hope he's worth it. But I'd personally want some proven form for that kind of money.

2nd hasn't ran
The 3rd is only 4L away and he's poor,
Nothing behind either looks awful form going through it. But he won and who knows.

I have him 'any race' anyway, which I haven't cashed out, so would be happy enough with that. He may well improve on that run, as he had been off the track near 100 days, giving fitness away to most of his rivals too.

Even the horses that beat him in his bumpers would suggest he'd need to step up markedly to get near Cheltenham. He was a bit of a hype horse when first joining Mullins, so perhaps it's just about getting that ability out of him...and they haven't found the key yet...well that's what you'd be hoping if you're a backer!

Pym declared for the Ballymore trial at Cheltenham tomorrow. Glad to see Noel Fehily taking the ride in Nico’s absence.
