Arkle 2020

Could be interesting then!

Nicholls also has Malaya entered, one who should improve for a fence being by Martaline. She could be competitive with a 7lb allowance.

Trump is also entered over hurdles at Kempton Sunday as Paul doesn’t want to start him over fences on heavy ground

Cheers dude.As skybet still wont put a price up for Ok Carral anyrace (been over 24hrs now) i just might use this weeks free bet on him.

Nothing is jumping out at me for this, i realise the season has barely started but was hoping to have a couple at decent odds early doors.

Have a little on Thomas Darby and was toying with a go on Special Cargo (25's - B365). Henderson says the following:-

"Precious Cargo looks like a big staying type but in fact is far from it as he has bags of pace and needs a truly run 2m to see him at his best. I'm sure he'd get 2m4f but at this stage i'd be very happy to stay at minimum distance and i think he could make a really exciting chaser this term"

Having read the Nicholls stable tour I was hoping a decision was made with Quel Destin. He could be lightning over fences and his style of running would put plenty under pressure early on.

He is noted as potentially going up in trip also, which would be a worry.

Running at Bath tomorrow on the flat

Thanks Jackie.

I suspect it will be a flat/hurdles campaign then. Chasing next season.

Too well handicapped on flat to miss tomorrow's prize. Nicholls won the same race Last year with Divin Bere. Willie Mullins sends his second ever horse over to Bath tomorrow to win a massive prize in the Mares race. His first ever runner won the same race last year.

This is taken from Elliotts stable tour on ATR regarding Felix Desjy
'He was ready to run, but he’s after pulling muscles and that will delay his return for a while. We are going to see how he is in the next few weeks, but I reckon that if we can’t get him back to start off over fences before Christmas, we might end up leaving him over hurdles for this season. It all depends on how quickly he comes back from this setback.'

The Arkle is looking more wide open with every passing week. Hopefully Thomas Darby jumps tidy & shows a nice turn of pace at Market Rasen on Saturday. His best efforts last season were in truely run races coming off a good gallop, whch he should get in the Arkle.

Have covered the JLT with bet365 just to be safe but the Arkle really looks there for the taking!

We're only in week 1 :p

Can't wait to see Thomas Darby out.

I've only backed with free bets for the Arkle. Real bet is in the JLT so far... but that was because he was 40/1 and only 25s Arkle.

I really, really, really like him.

I hope he can jump, if his debut is going well I'll likely back him in running again.

True that :highly_amused:

I was referring to the injury problems with Felix Desjy & Vision D’honneur. That and the question marks over Pic Dorhy, Fakir D’oudairies & Angels Breaths plans make an already open division look even more there for the taking.

Haha yeah, plenty more of those kind of kicks in the wallet to come.

By God I'm excited tonight, the spark is well and truely back ... the flat bummed me out a bit this summer for the first time ever...

Archie... do you have that pdf of last seasons ratings that you usually get your hands on? I want to see which highest rated hurdler officially is going chasin'

I don't recall a pdf but, off the top of my head:

164 Sam Spinner
160 Samcro
159 Laurina (?)
158 Bapaume (?)
156 Wicklow Brave
155 Melon
152 Champ/City Island/Minella Indo

I'm going to have to take a good look at this race and take a real swing at it. There's a ridiculous amount of horses in the market that wont go here, just aren't good enough, have had a setback or are staying over hurdles.

I was very close to backing TD. But think he'll be done for a turn of foot / higher cruising speed in a small field. Much easier to make up the ground in a big field, hurdle race. with less emphasis over jumping.

Watching last years arkle back. TD would never have been able to lay up with DDG, and then DDG went for home and quickened up , off that pace.

Melon for one could travel on that pace within himself. felix desjy has a high cruising speed too (unfortunate if he's out) al dancer can go the pace, and iv a lot more videos to watch on the rest of the potential field.

Very unusual year where theres hardly anything from any of the grade 1 open company hurdles bar melon. Not even anything from the county (RIP we have a dream, who I'd have backed)

For me a lot will depend on the noises coming out of Closutton. I’ve taken early positions on both Melon & Draconien. Melon might be the one but at the least will be a good benchmark for anything else than Mullins targets the race with?
