Arkle 2019

Someone in the Mullins stable could have said he won’t go left handed. Willie has eluded to that many times

Yeah, had of course crossed my mind before I even had a nibble on him for this and it may be that if Cilaos Emery goes well on debut and leading up to the festival that they hold Getabird back for Punchestown, after all Getabird was the known deputy to Annamix in the Supreme last season, and maybe only something happening to either CE or VDR will change that this season too.

Cilaos Emery (Mullins in the RP today)

I'm pretty sure we didn't get the best out of him over hurdles. He has lots of potential as a chaser where his natural speed could be a big assest. I'm looking forward to him going over fences and he 2m1 beginners chase at Leopardstown on Thursday will hopefully be the scene for his chasing debut

Beat me to it jono haha.

That'll please plenty.

Certainly with the comment about speed :)

Voix Du Reve

I've had this horse at the back of my mind for a while now. I wanted to wait till Christmas to see the entries and any apparent confidence, and indeed he has continued to shorten against MK over the last week. I think he is currently going under the radar for the Arkle due to his less flashy profile.

A very promising juvenile hurdler, it looked like he could have won the Fred Winter but for falling at the last. He subsequently missed a season and showed moderate form last year winning some minor races. If you take the view that it took some time for him to get his act together, he has subsequently been a revelation over fences. Promising signs in beating Minds Eye 7l (won next start) but mighty impressive in the Craddockstown in smashing up Hardline who subsequently bolted up in the G3. Watching his jumping there he has a lovely aggressive style which will really pile the pressure on rivals.

He is obviously continuing to surprise Willie and as far as I can tell he is one of only two horses that make Arkle candidates at the moment. The other is Cilaos Emery who was a much more high profile hurdler and could easily develop into a high class chaser. It would have been good if we could have seen his chasing debut prior to VDR taking on Mengli Khan, but if VDR bolts up the value will be gone. I'm not too concerned he goes JLT from trainer comments so far and I actually think he was probably running at the wrong trip for much of his second season hurdling. The change of tactics by dropping in trip and making all seem to suit him perfectly.

I'll be watching the Racing Post Novice with fingers over the button.

If MK doesnt produce today, will Kalshnikov go even shorter than 7/2? That atm I believe is even shorter than what Footpad was for it last year at this time of year and I hold nowhere near as much confidence for that price!

Or if MK doesnt win will we have a new player in our hands, either from this race or elsewhere?

It's Strange as I have Kalashnikov covered at 8s, but want to go in again, and dont like 7/2, and think will go shorter after today or after his run. Am I being too greedy?

Is cilaos emery declared tomorrow?.....anyone getting worried that we haven't seen him yet?

They're waiting for a bit of juice in the ground on his 1st run back. It's come up good ground. Nothing to worry about.

Le richebourg still 22/1 with lads.
Taken.

Le Richebourg was impressive there.

Mengli Khan bets in tatters :very_drunk:

MK didnt jump well. Some very sticky jumps (done that a couple of times lto as i pointed out but the opposition was rubbish).
Looking a very cloudy picture now for the arkle for me.
Kalash is grand, dont overly like anything else that has ran.

I hope CE is the one when he comes out

I can get my money back and happily reinvest in the winner I think. I'm surprised you can cash out for profit.

Straight After the race. Cashed for 2.5 x money.
Backed le richebourg at 22/1 with lads.

Le Richebourg is still 14/1 with Lads.

He can't have done any more can he?

Kalashnikov still has to step up in class over fences and everything else has blemished their record now at some stage.

Think thats a fair price still.

Think double figures is more than fair, Drinmore form looking strong.

I think we know that wasn't VDR's true running, form lines through Mind's Eye & Hardline give him the stuffing of the 2nd placed horse, but good they might revert him to longer trips now.

Did you get rose-tinted glasses for Christmas? :devilish:

Has to go up in trip so I'm sure you'll get your JLT wish

Do you think the form book suggests JLT?

I’m hopeful today was under par and he can come on
