Arkle 2019

I only got 25/1 as Im closed down with Laddies, but believe they do price boosts?

Regarding the price not being up on PP didn’t Mullins say he didn’t think Footpad was an Arkle horse till after his debut?

Ruby said recently that pre season last year he was riding the mare asthuria they were going off at staggered starts and footpad started some way behind she pinged every fence and he was very happy with her then just as he pulled up footpad was close behind, he thought if he'd gone well, what on earth had footpad done . He looked at Paul and he had a beaming smile.

That's from ruby himself.

That was from memory. Found the exact quote.

"I rode Asthuria and Paul (Townend) rode Footpad and I went a really good gallop on Asthuria and she pinged the four fences. At the last fence, Paul was a lot closer than when he started and I was thinking to myself if I’ve come down here spectacularly, what has he done? "

Is that why you loved Asthuria more than Benie Des Diuex all season :highly_amused::devilish:

FWIW I've been with you on CE since it was first mentioned.

At the time I'm looking for horses with potential to shorten add is too early to name specific race winners. 28/1 for a house that has solid form lines, could be an Arkle/JLT horse at 28/1 for Willie Mullins was worth a bet.

I feel no different now, other than wanting to see him come out because we can then work out a likely target and shape of opposition, but 25/1 (28s) appeals still ... but I have enough on before I see an entry

I get that it's a grade 1 hurdler trained by Mullins but the form is questionable and so is its wellbeing.

Mullins quote post race:

I’d imagine Davy Russell and Ruby just took each other on and went too fast down the back. As much as Ruby thought he should let Davy on, if he had let him on and he beat him he would have kicked himself, so he had to go with him.

“Davy Russell obviously thought he had more stamina than he did, so the two of them cracked and then David Mullins was able to settle in behind them and come with a wet sail.

“I’m disappointed for Melon, but Ruby couldn’t do much more and had to go with the other horse.

“It’s still only his third run over hurdles. He was beaten fair and square in Cheltenham but it was only his second run over hurdles.

“Today it looked like the two in front cut each others throats. He missed the third-last which would have left a bit more in the tank. I think there is still plenty improvement in him.”

We decided to ride Cilaos Emery a little differently today and waited more. He deserved it. He’s a horse that has disappointed on his last couple of runs.

“He has a Grade One now and it’s fantastic for Luke (McMahon, owner), who is a great supporter of the yard. He gets his day and we’re delighted for him.”

We've all seen the race and seen the quotes.
He's ran since then in open grade 1s and proved his worth so that's irellevent. Fwiw he cut his leg and lost a shoe in the supreme, thats irrelevant also. a 1 next to a name dosent mean it's better form.

This is just a hunch but I'm sensing there are differing views re Cilaos Emery :)

I haven't backed him (yet) although every time I read Scooby make a case I'm close to pushing the button. Eagerly awaiting Chase debut now.

By all means Wait for his debut. I'm not tipping him. I'm just very strong on him. and backed accordingly myself early as I want the 28s any race and have weighed up the risks involved.

Is he currently your biggest winner of the festival? You are making a compelling case and I can't refuse at the odds.

Ladbrokes have restricted my account and could only get £40.40 on. Went back this morning and can have another £40.40..... Work that out!

Scooby broke me last week...1.5 points at 28/1 topped up with my wife’s free 1 pound bet for Black Friday...haha! Will consider a top up once he has an entry and if the price is still there...enjoyed the debate on this one

If you look on oddschecker one of the "most popular bets" today is draconien Arkle. That news should have been broke a better way by the RP surely.

Odd!

Do you think the news is genuine and it's just a lack of publicity about it, or have RP misquoted? Sincerely hope it's not the latter as I immediately cashed out my bets

I'm easing into the same boat bit by bit at 28/1 he makes sense as a horse who will shorten after his first run all being well, if he is injured, it will be well flagged and we can hopefully cash out before hand ala Draconien.

It's deffinately genuine. Just reported in a poor manner at the bottom of an article. Tbf they diddnt really have to mention it at all. But you'd like to think they could have made better use of the info they were given

From a price pov 28/1 any race is overs. Mick Jazz's rating is overs too :devilish:

Found this from October on Sportinglife, Ruby speaking:

Draconien and Cilaos Emery are among others Walsh expects to make their mark.

"Draconien is a stronger horse this year and more mature," he said.

"He's got a lot of speed and he could be an exciting two-mile novice chaser. Long term, he could be an Arkle horse.

"There wasn't much between Cilaos Emery and Melon and we saw the progress Melon made last year.

"Hopefully Cilaos Emery can do the same this year."

They mentioned Getabird too, but Ruby was unsure on his trip, based on the above you'd have to say it was between Draconien or CE for the Mullins/Walsh team for this race though, and with Draconien now out it would leave the door open for CE.
