Arkle 2018

What's his current mark? Think he was 145 rated prior hi the weekend, have they dropped him yet?

If they can get him to 140 I'd fancy him at the fez given his Betfair Hurdle performance last year.

Arkle looks unlikely after yesterday but I'd still argue that 2m might suit better than a mid to long trip.

Le prezien ran in rhe grand annual laat year after going out in trip. Although Antepost on chelt handicaps is a mine field at this stage unless your in the know. But the prices reflect that. The only one fairly easy to tell is Gordon elliot who tends to enter them over in England to check there mark prior to plans. Ie the story teller / campeador

The Willie Mullins-trained*Footpad*was fourth in the Champion Hurdle at last season's Cheltenham Festival and could not have been more impressive on his fencing debut at Navan last month.

That foot-perfect display saw him rocket to the head of ante-post lists for the Arkle Trophy, but connections are not getting carried away.

Anthony Bromley, racing manager for owners*Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, said: "I think we'll all know a lot more after the race. Footpad has won a beginners' chase and is now stepping up into a Grade One. Death Duty being in the race will tell us whether Footpad is a worthy Arkle favourite, or whether we should be aiming for the JLT, or neither.

"The owners already have Sceau Royal as a potential Arkle horse, so it will be interesting to see how Footpad goes. Willie tells me he's in good form, so we'll see what happens."

Really hope Footpad puts in a very impressive performance against DD although I'm very surprised DD is stepping back to 2 miles. Watched Footpads debut over fences again and was so impressed with his jumping all the way round. Hope PT pops him out in front and kills DD off with his fluency and pace (my ante post bets talking here haha...)

Best for me would be DD to go RSA and Footpad goes JLT but have footpad in the JLT and Arkel

Bunk Off Early goes in tomorrow's beginners at Leopardstown. If he's over the colic surgery he should go well.

Now I'm happy. Brilliant round by footpad.

Wow. I have NEVER seen a novice jump better than that. On a par with Vautour in the JLT a few years ago.

That was so so so good!!! Has got me so excited now. :triumphant: The best ive seen a novice jump in my short racing life!

Fantastic performance. Managed to get some more 5/1 two fences out. Petit Mouchoir my only worry.

My only worry would be that they split up SR and Footpad.

Almost as good as Vautour in that JLT.. If he puts in a round like that at the festival nothing will get near him.

Good job you put nearly :p ... can't compare that JLT to this race but if he puts in a performance on Spring ground at Cheltenham he might make it a 1 horse race!

Today though he's only beaten DD who it is surely impossible to argue doesn't want further and the rest were double figure odds.

That said, absolutely the one to beat in the Arkle and only a MASSIVE come back run from PM in the Irish Arkle would affect my position in the race.

Don't worry Kev, no matter what Footpad does I don't think anything will ever impress me as much as Vautour did that day

Yeah I don't want to get carried away, and I know its easy to pick holes in the form, but my god he makes it look so easy. Death Duty was 6/1 favourite for the JLT coming into today, which is only run over 3f further. Surely those extra 3f don't bring out that much improvement in him? They didn't go a crazy 2 mile clip either, so DD should have been able to run near his best level of form imo.

Footpad jumped them ragged, and after just 2 runs over fences, and as a 5 year old, he still looks open to plenty of improvement.

With Footpad and Sceau Royal having the same owner,Which one goes for the JLT?

Neither of them.
Both jump extremely well at pace. Have good cruising speeds. Have ruby and Daryl Jacob on board and have cracking chances in the arkle.

As much as I'd like to see them split up, I can't see it. SR is an out and out 2 miler and he'll be heading for the Arkle.

If you split them up there'd be a danger of missing out on winning either race.

I think PP being 10/1 top price about Footpad for the JLT is a good enough indicator. Novice chasing isn't the be all and end all so they may split them up next year but unlike other owners you wouldn't assume they'll split them up.

You can get 76/1 for the double if you do want to cover it though :encouragement: ..... that is the kind of bet I usually put "free bets" on ....

"We are still aiming him towards the Irish Arkle on February 3.

"We've certainly not forgotten about him and we are working away at home with him.

"We are very happy with where we are."

This is very pleasing to hear.

When will we see RIVER WYLDE back on track?

He’s just coming back in to fast work now and obviously wasn’t quite right at Cheltenham last time. Nico came back in and said he made a small noise so we’ve cauterized his palate which is a very minor wind procedure and I hope to get him back on track for the Arkle.
